Are S5's notorious for not being serviced?
Oh, well I have owned quite a few different cars over the years but never an Audi. My father used to have a B3 Coupé many years ago. If they are plagued by serious problems then of course that will make me consider not buying one, it's just I have been looking for about 4 years and haven't been able to find one, would feel like a lot of wasted time I guess.

I don't know, I'm not really sure how to answer that, I just like the S5 I guess. What would you recommend instead?

Are S5's notorious for not being serviced?
Sorry just to clarify, the reason the cars featured in those videos have engine issues is because of poor maintenance? Not because there is anything inherently wrong with the specific design of the engine? Surely any car model of any make would suffer because of neglect? Or have I missed something?

Are S5's notorious for not being serviced?
Oh, I have never heard of this. Why would a short journey damage the engine?

Sorry what is "gen 2/3 vag"? I know years ago Audi's had a reputation for being unreliable, is that still the case now?

Oh is that a known problem with the V6 in the S5?

Are S5's notorious for not being serviced?
To be honest the only thing I am interested in about the S5 is the engine, I wouldn't really be bothered if everything else was the same as the base model. I don't know what LED matrix lighting is, or full beam assist, or cornering lighting. I am planning on using the car to drive to and from work, but it's only a short journey (about 9 miles) so I am not particularly concerned about selling it. Unless you are buying a brand new car and you can choose exactly what you want, it's highly unlikely you will find a car in the specification you want. I guess that's one of the reasons I don't care for most "add-ons", I am not lucky enough and probably will never be lucky enough to afford a brand new car, so I have to accept heavy compromises on what I will get. I totally agree with what you are saying regarding the history; the issue is I can't seem to find a car that has any. No physical paperwork, and no electronic history. Again, I agree without about the tyres. A car that fails on tyres tells you a lot about the owner. They either aren't smart enough to understand, or they just don't care.

Are S5's notorious for not being serviced?
I have seen a lot of S5's failing on tyres in the MOT history, to me that's quite common. Presumably people don't understand tyre wear on vehicles with all wheel drive. How do you know that vehicle has a full history? Aside from the one line on the advert that says it does? Forgive me, but I need to see more evidence than that. Regardless, I am not the kind of person that looks for "fully loaded" cars. I don't care about sound systems, I don't care about gimmicky lighting, I don't care about heated seats, I don't care about nasty "carbon fibre" body parts, I don't care about gimmicky "virtual displays", I don't care about 20" alloys, and I certainly don't care about panoramic sunroofs. That car is massively overpriced. And from looking at the Companies House records for that business, there is absolutely no way I would ever buy anything from them. I appreciate the help, but that car is the literal opposite of what I am looking for.

Are S5's notorious for not being serviced?
Hi, following on from my previous thread, I have seen another car that I was interested in: https://www.evanshalshaw.com/search/details/used/audi/a5/automatic-petrol-white-coupe/06ce9494-f94d-f111-8fdd-000d3a874790/ When I enquired with the dealer, they said there is only one stamp in the book from February of this year, and no history at all in the Audi database. So there is only evidence of 1 service in almost 10 years. I am starting to get a bit !Removed! off with this actually, and it's really putting me off buying an Audi. Are they typically not serviced properly or at all? Or is this just an S5 thing? It seems to be a common theme I am running into, and I find it hard to believe at this point that it's just coincidence. Or do people just not care about servicing anymore? Maybe I am old fashioned and have fallen behind the times in that regard.

How often should a 2017 S5 be serviced?
I spoke to them this morning and they said they didn't have any information about the gap so I didn't bother taking it any further, a bit disappointing to be honest. Thank you to everyone for the help.

How often should a 2017 S5 be serviced?
It is a 2017 car according to the advert, it is being sold by FOW. I must admit I haven't bought a car from them before, not sure if anyone here has experience with them? This is the advert if it helps: https://www.fow.co.uk/vehicle-search/audi-a5-s5-quattro-2dr-tiptronic-00393575 Thanks!

Ah ok thank you, I have emailed the dealer so I will ask and see what they say thank you.😊

How often should a 2017 S5 be serviced?
Hi, I made a post about 4 years ago that I was looking for an S5 (4 years later and still looking!) I have found one that I like but there was a period of 5 years where the car wasn't serviced. This is what the dealer is showing the service history as: 18/04/2026 - 37,780 miles 01/02/2021 - 18,681 miles 18/09/2019 - 11,946 miles 30/11/2018 - 8,690 miles So between February 2021 and April of this year it doesn't appear to have been serviced, is this normal? I can see from the registration the car was MOT'd every year so I don't think the car was sorn or not being used during that period. Thanks!

Is this car really for sale?
How can that possibly be allowed though? For two reasons: 1. Misrepresentation - if you are selling a vehicle and the photo is not the vehicle you possess, surely that can't be allowed? 2. Copyright theft - the photo belongs to whoever took the photograph and or the dealer selling the vehicle. If you are straight up copying the photographs from another advert to promote your own surely that is stealing?

Hi, I have been looking for an S5 and I saw one I liked on the below advert: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202409204271770 However I have been back on AutoTrader today and this advert has popped up: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202410295714734 This appears to be the exact same car, but being sold by a different dealer with a higher price and the mileage has changed? What is going on here?

Retrofitting Virtual Cockpit on S5
Hi, hopefully someone may have done this before, but does anyone know how expensive it is to retrofit the virtual cockpit in an S5? Thanks!

Finding owner from registration number
I have seen a few that I have been interested in but they always seem to be sold by the time I enquire, even if the adverts are barely a day old. Which makes me wonder a lot of the time if dealers really have these cars "for sale" or if they even exist. Sometimes I think they create fake adverts to generate lines of enquiry, tell you that vehicle is sold then they will try and sell you something that is real but they have had trouble shifting. I have thought about buying on finance myself but it's just so expensive when compared to leasing a brand new vehicle. It costs me more a month to buy a £25,000 car on finance than it would to lease a brand new £60,000+ car. I am not sure why GDPR would come into it; if you are purchasing something knowing that the person selling that thing has legal ownership of it would be classed as "relevant" and "adequate" information. Making that information transparent is a matter of legality and preventing unscrupulous people from commiting fraud. I work in data and have done for the past 10 years, so I have a pretty good understanding of GDPR.

Finding owner from registration number
Hi Gareth, yes a few years ago I bought an E92 M3 from a Sytner dealership. When I did some checks afterwards there were some mileage discrepancies, which were apparently because the vehicle was taken in and out of this country several times over the course of its life. Forgive my caution but I will not be making the same mistake again.

Finding owner from registration number
Hi Gareth, I am intending on buying from a dealer. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe the V5 document is proof of ownership? That document shows who the registered keeper is.

Finding owner from registration number
Well that's the problem, I am not sure who I am buying from if I don't know who owns the vehicle if it has outstanding finance. Whenever I find a vehicle I am interested in I do a HPI check first so I don't waste my time if there is something that doesn't seem legitimate.

Finding owner from registration number
Hi all, I hope someone might be able to help me with this. I am looking at buying a used Audi and a lot of cars have outstanding finance. I have been doing some HPI checks on them but it doesn't tell you who the owner is; it tells you who the finance is with but not who actually owns the vehicle. Does anyone know if there is anyway to find this information out? I don't want to buy a car not knowing who the actual owner is if it has outstanding finance. Thanks!

Thinking of buying an S5
Hi Steve, ah ok! I have had a look at a few but I am a bit confused! Some videos refer to the virtual cockpit but they seem to imply it is a standard item; but is this not the case? Thanks!

Thinking of buying an S5
Hi Steve, sorry not sure what you mean? Do you mean of cars that are for sale that you can see inside? Thanks!

Thinking of buying an S5
Hi, I am looking to replace my old car for an S5, but I don't really know anything about Audi's. I am looking for a 2017 car specifically so I can avoid the high tax for cars registered before the 1st of March 2017, and so I can avoid the excess tax you have to pay on cars that were £40,000 or more at list price. I had seen a blue one at Sytners in Nottingham but when I called up it had been sold a few days earlier (that old chestnut!). My main concern is about options; I have been stung before when buying from dealerships and I don't want it to happen again. What options should I be looking for when buying? Thanks!
