Thanks Steve, I have heard that about batteries. I will start with a diagnostic check first. I just thought my car might be too old for this to be part of the diagnosis checks.

If I leave the windows down without any power for while, when I select them all to the closed position, the drivers door window fully closes, but then opens without being selected to about 1/3 of the way down. It will do this until I select open and closed but hold the switch in those positions for around 10 seconds. Even then, it may not stay closed until a few re-sets have been completed. Any thoughts anyone?

I was hoping to find an amiable car upholstery firm that might do the fitting, but so far it's a no! Mainly because they have never done this type of repair.

Hi Gareth, the video's I have seen show a self tapping screw being fitted first, this has a base plate which stops the material from twisting around the screw. The material button then fits to the plate.
-
Thank for the video, however, I am disabled and can't remove this myself. I had it costed at well over £500. So the buttons on a 22 year old car at less than £10 v £500 is a no brainer for me. I have seen pictures of vehicles other than Audi's with this fix, but can't seen to find out if it's possible to fit the screws into the roof shell e.g. if it's a cardboard composite or is it fiberglass.
-
I don't want the expense of removing the rear window to get to the roof lining. Nor did I want your opinion on what it might look like. I just needed to know if anyone had done this type of fix previously.

Has anyone used these repair 'buttons' (see link below) to fix a saging roof lining. I just need to know if it works on an Audi of any description. https://www.fruugo.qa/headliner-repair-button-universal-car-roof-fabrics-nylon-fit-compatible-for-all-carscheck-clothbeige/p-255109155-554160885?language=en

Too late, foots already off!

I found out why my foot kept catching on the footrest. The footrest screw was missing and the cover had become loose, thus fouling on my trainer.
-
I never use the footrest, and it only serves to catch my shoe to prevent me from operating the clutch pedal. Before I remove it for ever, I wondered if anyone knew if there is carpet underneath the footrest?

The boot release lock servo solenoid are not the most robust on the Audi A4.

Hi Steve Q. Hanks for the reply. Does this apply to the 2.0L petrol engines. Or is it only on the RS versions?

My missus wants an Audi TT but the model with (I believe is available) a switch that makes the exhaust note more noisy. Can any one advise me which model and year I need to be looking at?

1.9 130 bhp PD engine 150,000 miles service
greggles replied to greggles's topic in Audi A4 (B6) Forum
Thanks Steve, sounds like good advice. -
I am about to put my 03 plate A4 in for a service. It has covered just over 150,000 miles. It also needs a clutch change. I have read about the injector looms being problematic on this engine. Would it be worth having this changed and the glow plugs to future proof the engine?. I haven't used the car in a winter yet and just want to avoid trips to the garage if it's having all this work done soon.

Above and beyond LarHal. Thanks

Nice one LarHal, I'm going to try that.

Can I ask an A3 owner to send me measurements of their wiper arms? Also, a pic to show the shape would be appreciated.
-
Hi Steve, I just scrapped an A3 after the timing belt tensioner decided to fail at 60mph. Had I known I was to acquire an A4 as a replacement I could have kept the wipers. Anyway, bottom line, I was hoping someone might be able to give me precise information. Maybe, I should place this on a general forum in case someone in the past has come across this issue.
-
My 2003 SE has a wiper arm and blade unlike any other. When I acquired the car in Jan 24, the blades needed replacing. This turned out to be the most 'fiddly' task I have ever encountered, I broke the tiny retaining clip and had to use duct tape to secure the wiper until I could identify a replacement (which is only available through Audi). After several failed attempts to get the correct blades via eBay, I had to special order from a local auto spares shop. No choice, only Bosch blades available, and not cheap either. After this debacle, I would like to completely change the arms and blades, upgrading to aero blades if possible. Has anyone already done this what what wiper arms and blades were used?

Hi Gareth, that's good advice, and this is exactly how I am driving. Like the chauffeur from 'Driving Miss Daisy'.
-
Hi Rikky, sorry,I just noticed your A4 is a 1.8, and I have been 'banging on' about the 1.9 tdi PD engine.
-
Hi Richard, I noticed your post, and having recently bought an Audi A4 b6 1.9 tdi. I thought I would take a peek and find out what might be in store for me in the future. However, looks like I am the first to respond. The only thing I might be able to shed some light on is the TD engine, my previous car was a VW Passat with the same engine. Although the timing belt lasted, I had problems with the tensioner, which on one occasion de-tensioned, fortunately it was slow and the engine just slowly misfired into a stall. On another occasion, the bracket that holds some sort of spring loaded pin to give more tension to the belt failed. Fortunately, I was going about 5 mph over a speed bump in a country park, so no damage to the engine. and the car went on to cover 240,000 miles before I wrote it off in a crash. But they do seem to be bullet proof. The A4 I have now has done 149,000 miles, but the previous owner has spent a fortune on the suspension and front sub frame replacement. However, He did live by the sea and that might be one reason for this. One issue I have is the temp gauge never seems to read correctly, unless the outside temp is 25 degrees. It was exactly the same on the Passat. which had the temp sender at the back of the engine replaced with no difference. I had the same changed, and the thermostat on the A4. All was good for about a month, now it's back to previous indications.

The brake pedal is hard with the car at rest.
