  1. For anyone with the same issue I had to replace the TCM. £1600 for the part alone. You can get refurbished units but heard mixed reviews. On top of that you will need to do a service as the unit is internal to the transmission.
  2. After a bit more research it might well be the TCM as opposed to the valve block itself. There’s a great video on YouTube removing the TCM for repair and servicing the CVT. It might just be a too much for me to tackle on my driveway so some decisions need to be made. I’ll rescan in a couple days and see if the fault repeats.
  3. This is the code I got. Sounds like mechatronics to me. I have cleared the codes and I’ll see if it repeats.
  4. Hi all, my A6 has occasionally been giving me a gearbox malfunction alert when trying to start. It clears after switching off and on again but it’s becoming more frequent. I have had the gearbox serviced twice in my ownership and isn’t due for another 10-15k miles. Anyone had any experience with this ? It’s a 2012/13 2.0tdi CVT 95k miles. Thank you
  5. I’m about 90% complete with this job now I’m just waiting on a replacement spring as one of the ones I was sent was incorrect. Ordered on Monday but still not here frustratingly. It’s went a lot better than I was expecting a few tricky bolts etc and don’t get me started on the electric connector for the headlight levelling sensor! Here are some pics of the progress: I was able to keep the callipers connected by firstly removing the shock and passing it under the upper control arm which saved a bit of time. it’s been quite satisfying renewing the rear end with new components, bolts etc. Here is a better picture of why I replaced my subframe in the first place: It was actually the same both sides. Word of warning treat your subframe now before it’s too late! Also I couldn’t figure out how to remove the bushes and the ones on the replacement subframe were far better than mine were so I will be sending those back. I will update here if I run into any alignment issues. At the moment the subframe is only partially fitted to allow the spring replacement.
  6. I think it was from a 2015 model. The Mileage would be unknown that’s the only thing. The bushes are showing signs of wear and I’m not sure how much play they should have. I’ll compare with mine when removed. Iv ordered bushes and I’ll experiment with my old subframe when removed. I think the threaded bar and cup would work well and I did find an Audi tool but it was near £1000. Plenty of cup and bar tools for other manufactures for £40-50 so I’ll take measurements and see if I can find one that works.
  7. Work has been going on in the background with this mainly gathering parts. I have ordered all the fasteners I think I’ll need, new shocks and springs, various links etc. Annoyingly the replacement subframe that I got had quite a few bolts left in that the breakers yard had cut off. I have managed to remove them all and have repainted it after some surface rust removal. It’s came up quite well and I have also used liberal amounts of cavity wax. I’m now toying with replacing the subframe bushes but I cannot for the life of me find a tool for it. I have found a bush removal tool for just about every other car. There are some that say Audi vw rear subframe removal tool but give no dimensions or say what models it’s for. Quite frustrating. Has anyone used or know of a way of removing these bushes ? Thanks in advance
  8. Yeah agreed I’d estimate between £3-4K on a trade in and a like for like replacement 2019 model would be between £20k-£25k. I’m more than familiar with the exhaust centre section having replaced it multiple times but good to know there’s a stainless equivalent. Cheers for that Where are the eccentric bolts located on the subframe ? Would I have to take note of the original position and try to best match it? It would be going for a full alignment on successful replacement.
  9. Also thanks very much for the link to parts catalog you don’t know how long I spent last night looking for exactly that.
  10. Thanks very much for the detailed reply. You have, rightly so, put the fear into me. I have pretty much all the tools you mention with the exception of compressor and air hammer. I used to tinker with Landrovers so I have some experience with rusty stubborn bolts. The plan in my head was to remove the brake callipers but leave them attached to the line tying them out of the way. Disconnect the harness to head light levelling, disconnect the shocks from either top or bottom, remove rear section of exhaust and lower the entire subframe with everything attached initially using the subframe bolts then onto a trolley jack. From there swap everything over replacing components as required. Then refit in the opposite order. I had scheduled a week due to inevitable bolt from hell but after sleeping on it I think I could using my heart rather than my head. I love the car but maybe it’s time to trade in… I’m in two minds at the moment. If I go through with it I will try and document my pain and keep this thread updated. It might just be too much of a job on my own.
  11. Good evening, I have just joined this forum after owning my a6 avant for 8 years. At the beginning of the year my MOT reviled that my rear subframe was heavily corroded so I took it upon myself to rub it down and give it a coat of paint. In doing this I knocked a fairly large hole in the right supporting arm of the subframe. Rather than give up on this car and rush to we by any car I have decided to replace the rear subframe. I found a replacement on eBay that appears to be in reasonable condition and I’d like to order replacement parts such as drop links, control arms if required and all the fasteners required. I am having difficulty finding part numbers especially for the fasteners. Are there any diagrams with part numbers available? I have found American ones but not exactly what I need. Has anyone tackled this job before ? I have a fair amount of experience working on cars but haven’t tackled anything like this. I’m worried about alignment of the subframe and haven’t worked out exactly where to start. I’d like to remove the entire subframe with all the arms, hubs, brakes etc then swap everything over on the drive before refitting. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 2012 A6 avant C7 2.0tdi FWD
