99 audi 80 dash lights
Cleaning up the copper space below the four screws to see if temperature gauge will strat working. I will also replace bulbs as I have no "light on" or "high bean" light at the moment and it all seems a bit dim. I can see 1.2w and 2.0w capacity bulbs but wondering if there is a difference between the black, white, green and light green bulbs (light green is marked 2w other seems to be 1.2w. Also one missing (open hole) and four blanked off.

Minor engine bay fixes...
Engine bay cleaned up reasonably well. Found a dodgy connector to the distributor stopping the engine from starting, so awaiting a small brush and dielectric grease to try to remedy humidity getting to that connector.

Minor engine bay fixes...
The beauty of old cars is that you can normally "see" what is wrong. The 2.0E engine was running bad on idle and not that great when driven either. I spotted that the rubber section between air filter and inlet chamber was lose both at air filter end and indeed onto the oblong air chamber. Removed and checked air filter and replaced carefully making sure fitted tightly and no leaks. Replace plug leads as they looked worse for wear as well as the distributor cap. Both had serious corroding connectors and poor condition overall. Car now runs smooth on idle and is as I would expect it to be. Cleaned up some serious oil leaks around the power steering reservoir. The feed to the pump seems very loos so will change the clamp on the hose.

Cleaning the interior...
When you buy a cheap car you cannot expect too much, but nice to get rid of years of dog hairs and muck.... Seats out and awaiting plastic sliders. Painter the scrapes on the seat frame whilst out of the car and brushed seat covers clean with detergent.... Removed doors cards with the dreaded foam disintegration. Not sure I will reuse the fabric as it looks crap. I have a roll of black padded vinyl that I used in a 1984 Fiat Spider left so might try that... It will never be a show car but that wasn't the purpose. Just need a basic convertible without to many sensors and crap that goes wrong. Sold a 2006 Saab 9-3 convertible that was an electrical disaster.

New Audi owner....
Having learnt to drive in a 1976 Audi 100 LS in 1982 I haven't had to pleasure of owning an Audi again until today. I collected a 1993 Audi 80 Convertible, which has been on my "to get" list for a decade or more. Reasonably nice example with only 4 previous owners. Doing so basic maintenance and deep cleaning interior (dog hairs and stains...) but have some bigger issues like the totally white rear window. and both seats being very loos in the floor rails. Anyway, looking forward to getting my hands dirty and then start enjoying the car. It has the basic 2.0E ABK engine, but that will just help me staying legal 🙂
