I am in need of some help with a problem that has boggled my mind for the past few months.
To give you a short back story, I have replaced my clutch and flywheel with LUK kit 2 years ago which is compatible for the vehicle, originally had a SACHS kit. I had an issue with my gearbox beginning of the year where it wouldn't go into 1st gear and reverse found the selector fork had given up. The car came with an NFU gearbox, local scrap yard dealer gave me a LNZ gearbox which he said is the exact same as the NFU different code because of a different supplier network car manufacturers use, they given me the starter motor that came off the gearbox which was the same Bosch unit and part no 02M911024C so i told them i don't need it because i already have the same. I didn't ask what year the vehicle it came from or engine code it seemed irrelevant at the time.
Car was recovered by AA and sent to a garage of my choice. The garage fitted the replacement gearbox all went in spot on no problem but the original starter motor though it fits wouldn't turn the flywheel, either it kept hitting the flywheel or it would go pass the teeth. I've tried different part number starter motor with the same specifications that are compatible for the NFU/LNZ Gearbox and had no luck, in the end the garage used a series of different sized washers to increase the mating distance between the starter motor and gearbox housing. My issue is over time because of that slight opening water and dirt would find its way in and cause damage and want to minimise that as much as possible.
I've checked through Audi part catalogues and they only show one type of starter motor for CFFB engine but more options for CBAA,CBAB,CBBB. The car does run but not as smoothly, in some cases the car struggles to start but is intermittent no fault codes (maybe need to replace the starter at some point) Could someone shine some light on this issue Thanks.
