Hi all, first post here!
I’ve dug a bit through the forum for answers regarding my issues, but I’d like to clarify some details. As the title suggests, I have some issues with the central locking not functioning for unlocking the car, and some speakers don’t work.
Car Details;
•2007 Audi A3 8PA
•135k Miles
•1.6L FSI
Issues;
•Key fob does not unlock any doors, but does lock them.
•Driver door lock controls do not function for outside handles.
•Speakers on the passenger front door and pillar have large amounts of interference/crackling.
•Rear speakers on both sides completely non functional.
Investigation;
•Replaced fob batteries.
•Found frayed wiring on the drivers loom where the door hinge connects to the body - no other door looms have visible damage.
•Pressing the key fob lock buttons and driver door buttons do audibly activate the lock actuators in each door, but clearly do not function correctly.
•Pressing unlock on the key fob doesn't unlock any doors, but pressing the lock button locks all the doors if first unlocked by other means.
•Pressing unlock on the driver door control panel doesn't unlock any doors externally from the handles, but lets them unlock internally from the inner handles.
•Putting the key into the door lock lets you lock/unlock the driver door from the external handle, but no other doors are affected.
•All car doors can be unlocked from the inside handle when the unlock button from the key is pressed, but cannot be unlocked from the outside handle.
•The boot does not unlock with the driver control panel, but does unlock from the boot button on the key fob.
•The stereo is the factory Audi chorus system, nothing has been modified.
Questions;
•How does the central locking system work? Is it centralised to the driver door, ie if I fix the loom for the drivers door will all others start working?
•Does this seem to be a wiring issue, or will the lock actuators likely be at fault here too?
•Are the wiring looms and plug pairs the same for all 4 doors? As I can only find a repair kit for the drivers door.
•Is the issue with the speakers common, and what’s the usual remedy?
