  1. Ok, think I understand, all self inflicted. My first German car after many years of US/Japan vehicle. Bottom line is the surface the car was parked on was not flat but little less that 5deg slope. That was enough to push the oil to one side and possible pile up in the valve cover with oil getting past valve stem seals. When I measured over full, is was parked opposite. I ultimately drained over 7 qts from it. Running it a bit, the smoking continues to decline. All my other cars that have been parked in the sloped area never showed the drastic change on the stick. Lesson learned, dipstick only on flat surface for Audi.
  2. Picked up 09 a3 8p Quattro 2.0t from estate sale. 165k miles. Service records show well maintained mechanically. Sat fro 6 months. Starts fine, idles well. Drove 3 miles, no issues. Ambient is 30f, does seems slow to warm. Did oil/filter change. Let idle for 10 minutes, reached 150f. Drove few miles again, seemed fine with temp about 160. Few dates later ambient 5f, start car to let idle, curious how fast it warms. Went inside to stay warm, at 8 minutes look outside and massive smoke cloud. Shut down car, let sit few moments, coolant at 125f. Restart, massive smoke. Check dipstick, nothing on it. Nothing and yes it was full after change.. Next day, put 3quarts in, dipstick shows 1/2 in hash. Start up, no smoke, drive 1/2 mile and it start massive smoke. Park car. Ambient was 25f. Pull dip stick, nothing on it. Check tail pipes, no oil accumulation. Next day, going to add oil again to move into garage, pull dip stick and oil level show over full, maybe 2+ inches up past full. So, anyone give me a clue what's happening? The only after markets parts visible is a cts pvc plate and catch can which is MT.
  3. New 09 A3 8P owner, first VAG ever. No history on car mods. Has a CTS catch can with a heating element wrapped around it. I'm familiar with catch cans, heated is new. Is this specific to Audi applications?
