Update - main dealer fixed my problem by carrying out activation of 5F software update to activate the navigation. Diagnostics test cost £150 and this included the activation above.
I googled 5F and found this:-
“Here’s a clear explanation of what “activation of 5F to activate navigation” means, in normal language.
What “Activation of 5F” Means
In Audi terminology, 5F is the control module for your infotainment system (MMI / MIB unit).
It is the “brain” of:
Navigation
Bluetooth
Telephone
Apple CarPlay / Android Auto
Radio and media functions
When the dealer says they “activated 5F”, it means they re-enabled or re-loaded the software activation keys inside this module.
Why this fixed your issue
Audi’s infotainment features (navigation, smartphone interface, voice control, etc.) are protected by cryptographic licences called FEC/SWaP codes (Function Enable Codes / Software as a Product).
These activation files tell the car that:
your navigation is licensed
Bluetooth/CarPlay are enabled
your features are genuine and allowed to run
If the 5F module loses these activation codes — due to:
corruption
voltage dip
internal glitch
failed software update
internal storage hiccup
— then the MMI loads but features disappear.”
Hope the above is useful should anyone else get the same problem.
Thanks
