Hi, Suffering a head and heart issue here and hoping someone can advise me. Recently discovered water was getting into boot of 2012 A3 convertible. Inherited it when my Mother died 6 years ago - It needs a new bumper & has an ugly scrape on the driver's side wheel arch (both my fault - it doesn't have rear sensors and an automatic gate jammed on it) but has only done 42000 miles & seems mechanically sound. I was advised it would need a new roof to fix the problem but have read that several firms now rebond the glass rear windscreen & was heartendd by seeing a TT repaired this way on "flipping Bangers" BUT I have two concerns: How can I be sure the rest of the roof seals around the back are OK? I repainted it 2 years ago and waterproof each winter. Water only seems to be in the boot. The parcel shelf keeps detaching and I'm not sure if is cause or effect for a loud clunking noise when the roof retracts. The mechanic who advised a new roof says the glass is clearly under strain and I'm wondering whether I would HAVE to get a bew roof. I should add my mechanic is clearly not a soft top enthusiast so any recommendations for somewhere I could get help (and wouldn't be averse to sourcing used bodywork if they were able to do that as well) would be gratefully received. At the moment gaffer tape is going some way to keeping it watertight! My head says it's folly to spend too much on it - I can't use it as much as I'd like because my large dog hates it :-( and I've just retired but my heart feels letting it go at scrap value would be something of a travesty.I'm in Herts/Beds/Bucks area but also spend a fair amount of time in Peak District so could look at Derbyshire/Staffordshire/Cheshire area too. I'd really appreciate advice - apologies if I haven't given enough info and thanks in advance.
