  1. Thanks gareth What I didnt say above is that I already had a good bodge job done for a coupe of hundred quid but the problem happened again! My bad. The flap has gone, too. Its all a bit of a bugger because the car is only worth 4-5 grand in top nick and with this minor fault it will reduce the trqde in value probably by half. Really irritating. It may actulally be worth paying what Audi want... Thanks for your input and thanks Steve
  2. Evening all, I have been driving a 2010 Audi A4 Avant S-Line for coming up 4 years with few problems. Had a sensor go mad a few months back which cost a bit to sort out but apart from that it has been perfect. Drove the family to Naples and back a couple of years ago and it didn't miss a beat. Great car. Alas, the spring for the flap for the lamp washer didn't pull the flap back to sit completely flush one day and I managed to rip it off parking. Photo attached. My local dealership says that a small plastic lug, built into the bumper, has snapped off and the only solution is to fit a new bumper. Cost £1,200. so my question is, has anyone else had this experience and, if so, what did they do? Second, what would anyone suggest? I have seen that Car Parts sell front A4 bumpers for about £75. Are these the real deal or too cheap by far? If I can get a new bumper with the lug intact then I should save myself a packet. Any advice from those in the know would be very much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.
  3. Thanks Trevor it turned out to be a faulty sensor which I had replaced by Audi for £285. The people who sold me the car (Essex Car Co) were great and indemnified me. Everyone happy.
  4. I'm a new owner. Middle of August I bought a used Audi A4 Avant 2.0TDI (start-stop). Its on a 3 month warranty from the non-Audi dealership I got it from. 65k, full Audi service history, new cam belt and water pump, oil service, MOTd, AA 128-point inspection. 1,500 miles later, wheel bearing and air filter. Done under warranty, no problems. 68,000 miles (mainly motorway) and today the engine "emission control system" warning light came on. The light is yellow, solid (not flashing). The manual says "if the indicastor lamp lights up or flashes a malfunction has occurred which can reduce the quality of the exhaust gas and damage the catalytic converter" It goes on t say "Drive slowly to a qualified workshop without delay and have the fault rectified. My local AUDI dealership closes at lunchtime on Saturday otherwise I'd be down there asking them to diagnose it. It'll have to wait to next week. can I drive the car at all until then? Does anyone know whether this is common, cheap, expensive etc? All steers grateful received. I have been told that my car is one of those affected by VW's dirty tricks. Could that possibly be connected? Cheers
