  1. Hi there! I recently purchased a 2016 A5 Audi which comes with a retro CD player. Unfortunately I binned all my CDs about 10 years ago so I am looking to upgrade the MMI to something like an Apple Carplay but I have some concerns I am hoping some wise petrol heads can help me with please! 1. How risky is this to do? (Full disclosure, I have no desire to do this myself and would be using a specialist company to do this for me). Could it effect the actual MMI itself? 2. When I upgrade, do I lose all the ability to see the current items on the MMI like vehicle information 3. Once the carplay is installed, is it all ongoing upgrades remotely? 4. Would this effect my ability to sell the vehicle in future? Ps. I intend on telling my insurance company too thanks!
  2. Hi all, I have just gotten myself a second-hand 2008 A3 8P 1.9TDI with the dreaded BXE engine and was wondering if it was worth it to repair it to tip top condition. I bought it off someone for £1000, which I thought was a good deal since other examples went for about £3000 and autotrader quoted me £2000 for it. It has 186,000 miles on it right now and I did a full servicing on it myself. So far, the car has no major mechanical or electronic problems that I can tell, except for a minor oil leak which I think might be from the rocker head gasket. I am not sure if the head gasket might be leaking oil too, though, as I vaguely remember seeing some oil marks near there. I haven't had the time yet to check on it yet, and because of how rare it it for head gaskets to leak oil externally, combined with no oil and water mixing in the block, and no power loss, I feel like it might be unlikely. The oil leak, however, is nothing major as there is no visible dripping and no oil on the lot despite being parked up for more than a week. It also require suspension bearings to be replaced along with the drop links. The underbody is quite clean with only surface corrosion and no structural issues. I have already spent £350 on it so far with a new set of tyres and a new battery I am considering if I should invest about £1000 in it more in repairing the suspension bearings and doing some preventive maintenance on it. What I have noted down so far is to replace the timing belt along with the water pump as I do not have a full service history for the car. I am also thinking of getting the main and big end bearings changed to sputter coated ones to prevent the conrod failures along with doing up the clutch at the same time since the engine will be out for it. I have been quoted £500 for the sputter bearing change and labour but I can't imagine adding on the timing belt, water pump and the clutch would be more than £200 extra. The clutch and timing belt is still fine so far but I was thinking that if the engine was going to be out, it might be worthwhile to get them done together to save on labour costs. I must admit that I have not worked much on cars, only doing my own servicing. I have however, bought up some tools and am willing to work on the car for easier components to keep costs down, such as ones that only require me to undo bolts to replace parts. I also have VCDS with me so I can do my own diagnosis for the most part. I guess my main concern is if I should invest the money into repairing the car entirely or if I should just do the bare minimum (suspension bearings and topping up the oil every now and then) and run it till it stops. I am looking for a car that is quite reliable and will not throw up any issues daily, which I have heard the 1.9TDI is quite renown for (except the BXE). I haven't heard of anything else that could go wrong with the car I have except for the conrod. I might have to change the brake discs in the near future along with the front springs as they are rusty but not broken yet. (Brake pads are fitted new by previous owner hence not changing them now) It doesn't have a DPF and I do not live near any ULEZ zones which is why I chose the model I got. My budget would definitely be around spending £1500 max on it this year before I consider just running it till it stops, or if I could delay some of the servicing for 3/4 years down the road, it would be much more palatable for me. In short, I have a 2008 A3 8P 1.9 TDI (BXE) with 186,000miles. No Service history except the one I just did. Wondering if it is economical to do preventive maintenance on it or to just run it and wait for issues to develop. Faults: Worn suspension bearings Worn drop links Preventive maintenance measures I am considering: Minor oil leak (rocker head gasket, maybe head gasket?) Change conrod main and big end bearings to sputter coated ones Timing belt and water pump Clutch Brake discs + pads Front springs Thanks!
  3. Hello, Right now we have an A3 8Y at home, and we're very pleased with it. Now i want to get a car for myself, second-hand, and one of the options is of course an B8 A4. I was wondering what the things are to look out for. Are there certain flaws and common problems i need to look out for? Many thanks for the advice! Kind regards

  5. Hello everyone, Just bought an 2010 Audi A4 however the previous owner (for some reason) decided to spray the dash trim a bright red.... I want to return this to original but not sure where to source these parts or not sure if i can maybe spray it myself to a similar colour as original? Any suggestions are more than welcomed ! 6. Hi, new member here. I’m having an issue connecting to the low pressure port on my 2016 A3. Having delved around the internet it seems I might need some sort of adapter ? My 134a gauges fit fine to an seat Leon but they simply won’t stay on to the port in the Leon. Anyone else topped up their ac themselves ? TIA
  7. Hi all, I hope this is ok to ask as this is my first post. First of all, I cannot drive so have very little experience of cars apart from things my dad taught me and through ex's who drove. Unfortunately my Dad passed away suddenly last year (he was only 59), and I've ended up with his car. The car is beautiful and really well maintained, but as I'm not yet driving, and it has an engine size of 1968cc (a bit much as a beginner car), I really need to sell it. I have checked around online and the prices really seem to vary, so as Audi owners I was hoping some of you would be able to give me some advice as to a good price to sell it for. I currently have it on a SORN, and the MOT runs out in Dec. I plan on putting it through another MOT early in November to help with the sale. It shouldn't have any problems as it's hardly been driven since my Dad passed, apart from to keep the battery topped up. Also as a non driver, I don't yet have insurance on the car. When people come to test drive it, I'll obviously have it tax and tested, but do I need insurance or will the test drivers have the necessary cover? Thanks in advance 😊
  8. Hi all, Im not sure whether this will get any attention or not but I'm looking for advice on upgrading the look of my interior. I have an A4 S Line B8 2008 model. I've seen some owners have used carbon fibre prints and stuck them onto the already silver trims. I've been looking far and wide for a trim set which includes right-hand drive stickers etc as all I can find on eBay is left-hand drive. Any advice or pictures of your improvements would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
  9. Hi all. I’m Tom from the Uk 🙂 so I have a 2007 Q7 and I’ve owned it the past 4 years. It owes me nothing and i love the car. Over the years there’s been little gremlins that I haven’t had time to do anything about and to be honest they’re not show stoppers. But, since were all in lock down due to COVID19, I’ve got some time on my hands and wouldn’t mind doing a little DIY on the old bus, if I can. The beast pulls in every gear, full audi service history up till my ownership, which I now fully service every 6k religiously with OEM parts, except the gearbox. I have a specialist friend for that. 160k on the clock and the girl runs smooth! so, the little gremlins that id like to address are as follows. 1) DAB Signal - it’s really poor! More so when there’s something plugged into the 12v cig lighter slot or if the DVD players in the back are on. Is there anything I can do to improve this? 2) Front display TV reception - again really poor! It used to be fine, perhaps something to do with DAB signal too? 3) side lane assist thingy (tells you not to pull out on the motorway if there’s a car coming) - not working and comes up with when button is pressed. It used to work but stopped some time ago. 4) the rear passenger air suspension - is around 20mm lower when the car is parked 5) can I change the set ride height so that the car sits lower than factory without the use of the VAG software? 6) front heated drivers seat heater - temperamental 7) can I somehow retrofit something to connect my phone (iPhone) to the Bluetooth system to play music through the stereo? 😎 little square buttons on door handles. What are they for? Mine are not working at all 9) boot closing - closed 9/10 but it’s always that 1 time I don’t check; is there adjustment to ensure it closes ever time? 10) front side lights. No LED replacements work in these what so ever. Anyone got any suggestions? 11) how difficult is it to remove swirl flaps? One of my motors has fudged itself. Is there a step by step guide? 12) anyone blanked their EGR before? What’s the best kit and will I need to map it out? I think that is all. Massive appreciation to anyone who can assist 🙂
  10. I'm looking to buy my dream car! I have very little knowledge of engines, but really need some advice on what parts are needed for this R8. Is it worth buying if I can get it cheap? Helpful / constructive advice is much appreciated.
  11. Dear All this is my first post. I own since less than a month a second hand approved used Audi A4 quattro. I bought in Liverpool. It comes with only rear parking sensors and I want to have the front parking sensor retrofitted with Audi original part from the garage that sold me the car. I have just got an email from the Audi manager telling me that Audi discourage retrofitting, and if I want to go ahead this will affect my warranty. i think that retrofitting an Audi with original Audi parts should not affect my approved used warranty. Do you more expert guy have any advice? I wish to have this piece of kit that will increase the safety of the car.
  12. Hello and good evening to everyone. New member here with a first post looking for some buying advice - very much in the first world problem realm... I'm looking at picking up a 2013 a5 sportback 3 litre diesel quattro, and have narrowed it down to a few as follows: 1. independent dealer, more basic radio etc. (2g ami in front of the gear stick on vertical console rather than the handier horizontal console controls); 2. audi dealer, same spec, +£1k or so 3. independent dealer, what looks like 3g mmi setup but +20k miles. (+£1300 on #1) 4. audi dealer, higher spec - 3g mmi etc, but more basic alloys (rather than the black edition rotors), same mileage as 1 & 2, +£1800 on #1. Which one would you go for? Thanks in advance.
  13. Good evening all, A newbie to the forum with a question. I have the opportunity to buy some 18x9J ET54 wheels and wondering if I'm going to run into any issues running them? Probably run a 235/40 tyre Just slightly concerned with the width. Is anyone running something similar? Thanks in advance!
  14. Evening all, New member post regarding my 2010 A3 TDI. Whilst there is a lot of talk of the A3 having an inadequate grille when it comes to stone damage, I don't think I can lay blame when I struck a pigeon at 80mph on the M40. The pigeon managed to rearrange the grille and damage the A/C condenser for goodwill. I've noticed that there is a piece of plastic that has now fallen diagonally across my condenser. Could someone enlighten me as to what this piece could be, and how easy it would be to remove it? Audi wanted £750+ to replace the condenser and just under half that for a new grille :( Many thanks, Mark
  15. Hi there I've just purchased a 04 A4 1.8t Quattro sport 190 and was just wondering is there anything I should be looking out for?? This is my first Audi and have only been driving for 4 years previously having a 1.2 Corsa !! Lol .. so as you can imagine I'm having quite a lot of fun !! Many thanks for the help Dean
  16. Good Afternoon. At the risk of sounding like a numpty, can anyone advise me on when the rear parking sensors kick in? I have only had my car for a week and I am happy to accept the issue could be me, so here goes. When the car is in park and I select reverse I get one short beep followed by a continuous one. However, when I select reverse after being in drive, I get one short beep and then the sensors work. I have tried putting the car into neutral then reverse and get the continuous bleep. Any advice or ideas? In every other auto I have driven with parking sensors they worked when selecting reverse from park?
  17. Hello all! I am new to the group but have loved Audis for many years. Previously my budget restrained me to 80's class 'fixer uppers', but this necessity turned into a bit of a passion. My first love was a tornado red Coupe followed by a Cabriolet i've been nursing for a few years (despite having an old A4 Avant as my first car, this doesn't make a huge portfolio in the grand scale of things but i'm still in my 20s). I have had an opportunity recently which has enabled me to realise my long term dream and become an RS6 owner. However, my love of Audis does not translate to my knowledge of how they work! Surprising considering the amount of times I've sat on the side of the road with the bonnet up! I am trying to bring my cabriolet back up to it's former glory before passing it onto a family member (so I know it's close by). The headlamp has cracked and i'm looking to replace it. There are a few on ebay but I want to check the compatibility. I'm sure they are all very similar if not the same but don't know where to check. Mine is a 2000 final edition cabriolet. Would any right hand drive, post 1998 cab headlamp be compatible? I'm also missing one of the plastic grates that sit on the front bumper beneath the lights if anyone can help? I would also appreciate any advice offered to an new RS6 owner! it's an engineering marvel that makes me giddy... but a complicated one and i'm willing to learn. Any thoughts are appreciated. Kinds regards Al
