2009 A4 emissions light - Error code help?

Hi All.

I am new to the forums, so I apologise if this doesn't read too well, but looking forward to helping people out in the future.

I have a 2009 A4 2.0 TDi S-line 170ps 6-speed manual Start/Stop - Current mileage 134500 (NOT QUATTRO)

Previously, I had a problem with a failed DFP sensor, which cost me £50 by the roadside, nearly 2.5 years ago. (Just after I had it)

Whilst on my home on Saturday, I had the Emissions Control Light come on again.

So, after the information i had from the VW Audi RAC guy who attended last time, I decided I would not risk driving it so I wouldn't risk clogging the DPF, just in case the same sensor had become clogged or failed.

However, I have had the car plugged in at the garage today (my old VAGCOM cable I had wont talk with my car) and it has thrown up a number of error codes on the intake side. This came as a kind of relief that the DPF isn't dead.

The car has been running fine the last few weeks and has been driven over 1000 miles in the last 2 weeks, mostly motorway driving.

Servicing is done on a long life service, as and when required with castrol edge oil. Air filter was replaced on the last service. Fuel filter was last replaced on the previous service.

I have looked up the codes (detailed below) and wondered if any of you guys could shed any light on it.

The garage has cleared the codes and advised they will re-check when it goes in for new brakes on Friday.

ERROR CODES:

P1603 - Internal Control module Failed (Think this was caused by me trying my old cable)

P15A1 - Neutral position sensor

P15A1 - Neutral position sensor - Implausible signal

P2008 - Intake manifold flap

P2009 - Electrical Malfunction

P010A - Mass Air Flow

P1016 - Valve for Air Filter Bypass

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The below is some further info I sourced off the web and I apologise for the way it is written, but I had to convert the info from Dutch to English.....

Error Code: 17424 P1016

description / symptoms / causes / solutions are specific to VAG cars.

Error Code: 16484 P0100 (the corresponding 'old VAG code' is: 00553)

This error code is "Generic OBD" (for each
automaker same description and meaning). The following symptoms / causes  / solutions

are specific to VAG cars; to other car manufacturers who may differ in detail.

nl Air Flow Sensor (G70) supply

du Saugrohrdruck (G70) Anschlußspannung

and Mass Air Flow (MAF) (G70) Supply Voltage

Additional information on the error codes

Possible symptoms:

     Probably no real serious problems

     reduced ability

     Infrequent / rough running

     Engine stalls

     Fuel consumption too high

     exhaust smokes

     ERROR lamp (MIL) lights

Possible causes:

This error code is usually caused when you plug the LMM disconnecting and then turn it on contact. The ECU sees no LMM more

Fuse (s) are poorly connected or defective

Check whether the MAS is not too close to a) ignition / bobinedraden solenoid valve, c) relays, d) motor

Bad contacts to / from the LMM (check especially the connection to the ECU)
Check for leaks past the LMM

The air filter is clogged (leak in the air intake)

     Exhaust is blocked

Correct values for the LMM are ao calculated on the basis of the values that pass the MAP sensor. So check the MAPsensor:

     MAP sensor itself

Wiring and / or connections faulty

Leakage to / from the MAP sensor

     The LMM is polluted

if you use a reusable air filter that is soaked in oil, beware that there is not too much oil is (Just standard)

     The LMM (G70) is broken

Possible solutions:

Error codes in the LMM are sometimes difficult to solve / able to put you on the wrong track

Reset the error code, and hope he does not come back

Before replacing the LMM (G70), first try the following once, maybe it helps:

     Replace the air filter

make the MAS clean (blow or special cleaner), it does not often, but you never know

     reset error codes

Check / replace fuse (s) remove the fuse (s) Make the ends of the fuse (s) clean (very light sanding with fine sandpaper, then very little contact spray on it)

fuse (s) by measuring with a multimeter (the fuse (s) sometimes looks fine, but appearances can be deceiving

     fuse (s) replace / replace

     Check the exhaust for blockage

Check / repair wiring and connections to / from the LMM
Check for leaks around the LMM

Check the voltage of the LMM

Check (measuring blocks) / replace LMM
Check (measuring blocks) / replace the MAP sensor

The dealer if there is a software update for the error check

The ECU, replace but that is the last solution

Extra info:

     LMM (G70)

Air pressure sensor in the intake manifold / MAP sensor (G71)

For model years 1995-2004 (?), The TDI VAG a
bad reputation for the MAS. Which is slowly dirty and dirty (not easy to clean), and loses slowly (!)

Functionality, somewhat irregular course and loss of ability as a result. The functionality can be tested

     by using [01 engine] a log, [meas.blocks-08], group 003 (3rd gear, floored by 1700-4000rpm)].

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I appreciate you taking the time to look at this for me. :P

As a side note, have any of you had issues with wear on the drive shafts? I have had 2 inner cv's done this year and the outer on the O/S is now knocking. :(

Cheers,

Rob.

Just thought I'd let you guys know , the light came back on straight on the first drive after arriving back for the garage.

I've now also had chance to have a quick look round the housing of the ear and throttle body.

There is a rather large amount of oil underneath the egr and throttle bodies.

So I took the intake pipe off the throttle body and there was quite a bit of oil in there, although I did think it's more than it should, this is my first owned diesel car, and I haven't seen any drastic oil burn.

I think it's likely to be a failed egr sensor/body, probably down to the mixture of the coke from the exhaust and the oil from the pre-charge engine rebreather.

Do you guys have any thoughts?

Also, is there anyone around the Buxton, Derbyshire area that has a vagcom cable I could borrow for a few days?

Cheers,

Rob

Hi there, it is probably the EGR valve that needs replacing.
Mine went on a 2008 2.0TDI B7 and replacing the valve fixed it.

It is fairly easy to do if you are in any way mechanically minded.
