My Audi dealer found that there was a gearbox software update available. The update was carried out and I finally had the car I thought I had bought. The issue was corrected and the problem has not recurred.
For an A6 C8 50TDI the TPI that’s required is 2053287/11 but more importantly, this is an Engine ECU update and not a gearbox update as such, the software update is 4K0907401K
Interestingly, many correspondents on the thread said that their dealers were saying there was no available update. However, there certainly is - and it works!
