Mk1 Coupe model/engine/drivetrain recommendations please
Hi Meera and thanks for your response to my post. I choose to believe that no other responses means there is no best option so I will follow my instincts and go for a 225 BAM Quattro however with my 1988 Coupe GT occupying the garage the TT would be outside most of the time so I need a Coupe and not a Roadster. I had a 150 FWD Roadster a few years back and that was a lot of fun. Yours looks great with great history but as I'm not interested in buying I would say that at £1200 you are greatly under pricing it. I have been looking for some months now and prices are rising for good ones with good history. I think with the history you have and the apparent condition (plus summer is near) I would at least double that price or maybe even chance it at treble for a while. I wish you luck!

Mk1 Coupe model/engine/drivetrain recommendations please
Apologies as this may well have been asked before but I did search and fail to find similar threads. I am considering the purchase of a Mk1 TT Coupe 1.8T. I owned a 2004 Roadster FWD and thoroughly enjoyed it and now have a hankering for a coupe but which one would people recommend? I think I want a 225 BAM Quattro but are they likely to be more trouble than a 180 Quattro? Clearly I can assess the merits of one that has service history versus one without, one with modifications and one without as well as the various different road tax rates. I am reasonably happy to assess the condition when presented with one. What I am really after is feedback on which one is the sweet spot of the 1999-2005 Mk1 as an ownership experience for a 50+ year old with moderate DIY repair and maintenance skills and workshop equipment. It won't be a main car but should get enjoyed once or twice a week for a bit of retro fun while I work on my 1988 Coupe GT.

Original key
I don't have a link as these were left over from when I bought a spare flip key for a TT I had a couple of years ago. If you search Ebay for something like Audi flip key four ring logos you should find them I can measure one up for you if that helps. Ideally I would like to find a way to mill a recess into the plastic so the logo sits flush as I suspect the adhesive will struggle to hold if stuck on proud. I like a challenge.

Original key
Let me know how you get on finding originals. I would still prefer that to the ones I found. I'm a bit of a stickler for originality.

Original key
Hi Kieran. Here are some pictures of the key blanks I found. These are Silca brand with code WT7BP but there are other brands out there making equivalents. I'm quite persistent at searching for stuff as it used to be my job in the engineering field so it took some detective work to find the manufacturer sites and scour the catalogue pages comparing the metal blade profiles until I found the correct one then using the WT7BP code I found them on Ebay. I even tried to buy 20pcs from a USA supplier but they would not ship to me. Hope some of this is helpful. BTW, the self adhesive four ring logos are also from Ebay and I plan to fix them to the cut key to cover up the Silca logo - near enough to the original spec for me.

Original key
Hi Kieran. My Coupe came with the wrong key blank, it should be the square topped black plastic with Audi moulded in, which I guess you know already? I searched high and low and the best I could find was the correct shape but without the Audi logo moulded in. I bought them off Ebay and had them cut at Timpsons but they are not strictly meant to cut customer supplied blanks so you'll need to find a branch or staff member willing to do you a favour. If you can wait a while I can provide the manufacturer's code for my correct blank, that said the slot profile of yours might be different but the blank manufacturers website (Silca I think) has all the images you need to match up yours then you go searching the internet armed with the manufacturers code.

Hi Kieran. Sorry for the slow response. Well done on your B2 Coupe! I smiled when I saw the picture as I was watching this one on Ebay. I have a saved search for any B2 Coupes as I am just curious about what is still out there. Yours was most interesting because it is a 1984 model just like the one I had in the early 90s. I have the fondest memories of that car and although the reasons for parting with it in 1994 were sound I still regret letting it go. See the attached (grainy scans of 35mm film pictures) images I dug up. I understand the two tone paintwork on mine was a factory finish, some kind of special edition and I have seen another identical paint scheme on another 1984 car on another classic car auction site. I fear my old car was scrapped a few years after I sold it but if it were still to exist I would move heaven and earth to get reunited. I have searched the Gov.uk website and records ended some time ago sadly. It represented a time when I was in my early twenties and having lots of freedom and time to enjoy the car. Subsequently in 2004 owned a 1984 Coupe Quattro Turbo in Tornado red when you could, and I did, buy one for about £3K. Sadly my circumstances changed so I had to sell that one too for about what I paid for it having refurbed the interior using material scavenged from the rear bench, sorted the engine tuning and fitted a new SS exhaust. If my current Coupe had an MOT and was a bit tidier I would probably sell to try for another 1983-4 model as I think they just look better, more classic.

Hi Kieran. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your car. Can I ask where you found it? Ebay? Here are some pictures of mine. I've posted them before when I first joined this forum.

I'd echo the comments about service parts and ebay - I think there is a reputable supplier in the south west who sells on ebay called Parts-in-Motion. For trim parts Highland Quattro, also on ebay could be useful. I may be going to them for some parts in the future as I believe they also occasionally arrange to have new parts made in moderate volume and although these are for UR Quattro they also sometimes fit the Coupe GT. I have located a number of dismantlers in Germany that will ship internationally but not tried yet: Felgensätze ohne Reifen | Felgen / Reifen | Nach Ersatzteilart | Ersatzteile | autewo GmbH Audi-Ersatzteilhandel This site can be useful for checking original VAG part numbers: AUDI, Audi Coupe Europe, 1988 - Catcar.info As for re trimming, I will need to do some of this on my 1988 Coupe GT. The seats have been retrimmed and are in decent condition but the fabric doesn't match the door cards which does my head in. I'm considering a retrim of seats and door cards in a matching chestnut brown vinyl/leather to match the dashboard and carpets. It will depend how wealthy I feel come the time because I seriously doubt the availability of good used or new original material. Good luck with your 1984 GT. I had one back in the 90s and loved it. I would like to have found a good one this time round but I'm broadly happy with my 1988 model. Post some pictures please when you get a moment, I'd love to see them. Kind regards.

No power to fuel pump
Hi Scott. I get what you mean about checking the relay coil operation with a 9V battery and you say the coil operates out of the car. Can you detect the coil operating when it is plugged into the car, ie is it getting the 12V power from the car/ignition switch to operate the coil? If yes, have you checked that there is a 12V supply for the relay to send to the fuel pump? The coil may operate to close the switch but if there is no 12V to send to the fuel pump then you may need to look elsewhere like fuses. Apologies if you already know this but relays are just remote switches that draw low current. Their job is to switch the much larger currents drawn by equipment like the fuel pump, headlights etc so that the switch you turn or toggle in the cabin only needs to carry low current. Relays have at least four spade connectors on the base. Two (smaller) ones are the coil to close the switch and two (larger) ones send heavier current to the load, in your case the fuel pump. Does any of this help?

Audi 80 90 Coupe GT B2 Type 81 85 stainless exhaust.Sold.
Welcome to my listing for one Audi 80 90 Coupe GT B2 Type 81 85 stainless steel full exhaust system as shown in the pictures. £169 collection FOC or £28 delivery but please read the full description for delivery options and ask questions if in doubt. There are lots of pictures and description so bare with me - my intention is to be as helpful as possible. The exhaust was carefully removed by myself from my 1988 Audi Coupe GT 2.2fi 5 cylinder - the red one in a couple of the pictures showing how it looks when installed plus the video and underside pictures showing the before and after removal. If you want to know how this exhaust sounds, follow the link below to a YouTube video of my car when it was owned by OG Cars who had the exhaust fitted. The sound comes about 4 minutes and 30 seconds into the YouTube clip. The system was custom/hand constructed by Infinity Exhausts Ltd in Bristol and fitted by them. It looks a bit grubby in the video and fitted pictures but has cleaned up nicely and looks great with no obvious deterioration once removed. We’re Selling the Audi Coupe GT! - YouTube The technical stuff: This stainless steel exhaust comprises the tube joined under the gearbox selector and runs to the rear axle where there is a clamp connection to the stainless steel rear box with twin tail pipe. The video clip traces the exhaust from its joint with the front pipe to the tail box and shows all the mounts and connection along the way. It replaces the OEM three box system and does make the most of that lovely 5 cylinder sound. It hangs off the same hanger points using your existing rubber mounts. See the pictures where I have tried to show how to make the connection with the front pipe. The OEM spring loaded triangular joint is no longer used so the flare needs to be cut from your existing front pipe. The OEM spring loaded joint is designed to accommodate some flex as the engine moves under load. Personally I'd opt for some kind of flexible connection - I will be using a braided flexi connector to replace the OEM design. I am changing back to an OEM exhaust system because I am after originality for my car. As for what cars this exhaust system will fit, you will need to check this out yourself. I suggest that it will fit any Audi Coupe GT Type 81/85 from about 1981 to 1988 with a 5 Cylinder petrol engine having owned and worked on 1983 and 1988 versions. When I was looking for my OEM replacement three box system it seemed that the same exhaust parts also fit the 4 Cylinder versions as well but I am less confident about this. I can be certain that it won't fit the Quattro versions as the exhaust takes a very different route past the prop shaft and rear differential subframe. It is also likely to fit saloon versions of the B2 Type 81/85 Audi 80 and 90 as the floorpan of the saloon is likely the same as the Coupe but again, you'll need to confirm this yourself before buying. The tube sizes are comparable - OEM are 51mm OD and this SS system is also 51mm OD. The connection "bell end" for want of a better term is 52.3mm ID so will fit over the OEM 51mm front pipe. Delivery and collection options. Collection FOC from Menston LS296BA. Delivery gets a bit complex because the long tube is too long for any courier that I have tried. Most only accept 120cm and the tube is 185cm measured from open end to open end. I will deliver the system myself for the quoted carriage cost of £28 up to 100mile route one way, 200 mile round trip. If it must be a courier then the main tube will be cut in two where indicated in the picture and I will supply a SS clamp sleeve FOC to reconnect the two pieces. This way the tube (in two pieces) can be packed together with the silencer in one box under 120cm and under 15kg. I have restricted the locations posted to for £28 but if your delivery address is excluded please do get in touch for a quote. Hope this makes sense but please do ask if you have any questions or suggestions. If I have missed anything, please do ask. Apologies for the loooong explanation.

Registration A10VKV for sale - Audi 10Valve KV
Thanks Gareth. I've had another number on retention with them for several months with no sale. They offer a price to you as a seller then add an unrealistic margin for themselves. When it doesn't sell they expect you as the seller to take the hit and reduce the price for them. I'm hoping that someone on here will recognise the value of the number to an Audi enthusiast. The offer price to me was £500 so i expect they would offer it on their website at closer to £700. I may yet put A10VKV on retention anyway so at least any hurdles with DVLA are tackled and the number is ready to transfer. We shall see.

Registration A10VKV for sale - Audi 10Valve KV
One for the geeks to appreciate: A10VKV describes Audi 10Valve KV 5cyl engine code from the 1980s. Currently assigned to my car but I have no particular interest in the number (it came with the car) and I'd rather have the correct age related number back and some cash to pay for repairs/parts. Regtransfers.co.uk recently valued the number at £500 but this is what they reckon to pay me, the price they would ask would be higher. I'm open to sensible offers. I have not yet put the number on a V778 retention document as I wanted to assess interest before shelling out the £80 fee. Happy to work with anyone interested to get the number assigned online to their car - check out the process on the government website for details. If there is no interest here I may put it on retention and list it with Regtransfers.co.uk.

Injectors
Morning. The guy's name is Eddy and the business name is MK Diesel Injectors Specialist, 07455 215245. Address: Unit 1 Mafeking Mount, Beeston, Leeds LS11 7BX. You might see the Google review I left a year ago which recounts my experience. I had significant doubts when I saw the premises on street view and in person but the service was genuinely helpful and turned out to be great value. BTW - don't turn up in clean pale coloured clothes, the place is filthy and stinks of diesel as you might expect. Again, this was my experience and others may tell a different tale. He takes credit card payments BTW.

Injectors
I should make clear I'm not an expert and not in the motor repair trade so I can only offer my experiences and acquired knowledge. What made you think it needs a new MAF sensor? Have you had it plugged into a diagnostic kit to identify any relevant codes? The limit of my experience is with old mechanical diesel injection. What you have in the 1.6tdi is virtually all electronic and computer controlled. They work great for a long time but wear and dirt can cause any number of confusing symptoms according to the wide range of forums and blogs I read. Diesel injection is generally a dark art presided over by wizards. The injectors themselves have an electronic top half and a mechanical lower half. The top is basically a stack of piezo-electric wafers which expand when triggered by the ECU and push open the mechanical injector to release fuel - metered for every cylinder/revolution individually. If the piezo-electric wafer stack breaks down the injector won't fire and the engine will have a permanent misfire and be pretty much undriveable even with only one broken injector - the injector is toast. The misfire I had was only at idle and turned out to be a weakness in all four injectors in the lower/mechanical part. This part can be refurbished but the top part can not. The guy I went to charged £600 to remove, test (I was able to observe and very impressive it was too), diagnose and refurbish all 4 injectors which transformed the car to a smooth running car easily capable of the 60+ mpg it should have been. This was about a quarter of the cost quoted to replace all the injectors with genuine new ones. New injectors also need to "coded" to the ECU or else they will not run correctly and this can only be done with professional diagnostic kit. He needed the car overnight only. I note you are in Derbyshire so south Leeds is not close but also not impossibly far away if you want his details. Your symptoms sound repairable as it is still running tolerably. Hope this helps a bit.

Injectors
What symptoms do you have? I had injector issues with a 2012 Seat Leon 1.6tdi engine code CAYC. Initially I was quoted £500 each for new genuine injectors plus fitting and was warned off going for refurbished, non genuine or used as apparently they are individually coded to the engine ECU making anything other than specialist/dealer attention a no go. I almost scrapped the car until I found a guy in south Leeds who sorted the issues for a fraction of the money initially quoted. Have a look on the various blogs related to your engine code letters (CAYC or similar) as there is a lot of chatter about "failing" VAG injectors on the 1.6tdi and what to do. Mine just had a misfire at idle and wouldn't do more than 50mpg. What is your's doing? I'm no expert but I did a lot of reading on the subject before choosing what to do.

Audi 80 sport. Exhaust system for sale.
Just a suggestion. ParcelForce might be a good option for courier. They are reasonably priced, they accept odd shapes/sizes/weights and they will collect from your house if necessary. I don't work for them but have had several good experiences with them on ebay sales.

Wanted - Audi 80/90/Coupe Ronal R8 15x7" KBA40834 Alloys
I'd like to find a set of these alloys. I am not aware of any Audi part number but I believe they were a factory option for the Type 81/85 Audi 80/90 saloon (Sport) and GT Coupe. They are from the Ronal R8 range, 15x7 inch (as opposed to the 14x6 inch standard), 4x108PCD wheel nuts, ET42 offset. They appear to be identified by a Ronal code KBA-40834. I have found them elsewhere in Europe and I may end up sourcing them from overseas but thought I'd ask here first. I am aware that the same casting is machined to suit the Mk2 golf but obviously these are 4x100PCD and have ET25 offset so won't fit the 80/90/Coupe. Hope I've given enough info. Check the attached pictures. To my mind these are one of the few wheel upgrades that look correct and of the same 1980s period appearance as the standard fitment. Any further information or part number information to help my search would also be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Part no. Check
Hello. Just seen your post. I have had some luck with this website: https://www.catcar.info/audivw/?lang=en&l=c3RzPT17IjEwIjoiQnJhbmQiLCIyMCI6IkFVREkifXx8c3Q9PTIwfHxicmFuZD09YXV8fG1hcmtldD09UkRXfHxtZGw9PUE4MFEgfHxFcGlzPT03NHx8RWluc2F0ej09MTk5MXx8TWFpbkdyb3VwPT00fHxCaWxkdGFmZWw9PTM5OTMwfHxHcmFmaWs9PTAzOTkzMDE0MQ%3D%3D I used it before for 2004 TT parts and have used it recently for 1988 Coupe GT parts ref. Hope this helps.

B2 Coupe 5Cyl - should I buy one?
Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting on with the details, plus using it of course. It is a long time since I've driven a 5cyl Audi........over 20 years now I come to think of it. Yikes!

B2 Coupe 5Cyl - should I buy one?
So far I think it is good value. Superficially in great condition but in places it reminds me it is soon to be 37 years old. I love detail so I’ll be attending to all the areas that show its age so it bears closer inspection and doesn’t show its age. 12 owners and many years of variable skill repairs (let’s be honest, some bodging) will need care to put right but that’s what I enjoy.

B2 Coupe 5Cyl - should I buy one?
Not the same car. This one has been in near constant use. It had significant bodywork repairs and a respray in 2020 I believe.
