Mine is a 2009 A6, so not the same but I have disconnected my battery and even replaced it without coding anything and all is ok.

It sounds like the dealer is playing for time.

Reject it before the warranty expires.

The 2.0l has a belt.

Is there an option to have them turned off.

My 09 has the option and I turned mine off.

09 DRL were not compulsery so I don't know if later models have a choice.
