Hi thats a waste of time they will only tell you that A its changed at the fitters visual inspection B no one requested a change, their attitude is !Removed! as they are all franchises and charge the non changed filter every time to the parent company, £150.00 for an oil and filter change really?, they all lie without thinking about it which is why I do all my own servicing, sorry to tell you this but you are going to have to swallow this one, Audi service history is worth less than a Tescos premium bog roll, I change all my filters and oil at 9k as dirty filters and oil cause the degradation in the mechanical areas at an alarming rate, here's a picture of my air filter at 9k spot the new one both filters are Bosch which are much cheaper than the stuff in badge engineered Audi boxes, must be doing something right the cars at nearly 170k.

I know all about the stealers and their tricks which is why I never take my cars to them but this is absolutely shocking, £20 for the filter and about 5 mins to change, luckily I do all my own work so the car will be looked after properly now and hopefully will last 170k as well.

Just for completeness; I checked the longterm trip this morning and it showed 63.4 mpg over 8300 miles.

I realise the difference as yours is Quattro but I wanted to better quantify / validate my earlier post of the MPGs I'm seeing 😀

That is great fuel economy for such a large car. Mine could also have been attributed to the fact the air filter has never been changed. I'll try to attach a photo of it and the state it was in, getting a new one today so that should improve it as well. Full Audi service history mind and this is the original filter that should have been changed 8000 miles ago. IMG_1220.thumb.jpeg.e215a216a38ea5ea46dfb918f1385fa8.jpeg

Yes, it's why I avoided the Quattro but it sounds like you'll definitely benefit from it in the winter.

The Cataclean and Archoil are great for the fuel system and DPF, but for the EGR cooler the main contributer being the AdBlue so no amount of fuel system cleaner will negate that, but it should help delay from the perspective of the fuel contributers.

Thanks for your help Steve. I'll update this forum as it progresses.

I didn't notice it is a Quattro, so the MPGs I'm getting is not helpful here.

At least you have the satisfaction of knowing the average over it's 67k so that rules out something more sinister too, so that's great news.

@Jaime A5 Quattro is yours diesel?

Fingers crossed the EML comes on, so you can get the EGR valve and cooler replaced with some help from the warranty cover.

Paying forward a tip from @Stevey Y is run a bottle of cataclean through it, you should be very pleased with the outcome.

Wish I'd gone for the FWD knowing that they get that good MPGs 🤣saying that come winter I'd probably be regretting it if I had.

Yes I hope so too but the fault code still hasn't shown up again. The last 30 litres of fuel I put in had a bottle of cataclean in just before it so hopefully it'll be doing its job by now. Also got Archoil to be put in as well.

Those values, even the "improved" ones don't seem right.

I can cruise at 68mph along A roads for approx. 35 miles and achieve ~75mpg, if I push it, I still get ~65 mpg, according to the trip data.

My only gauge is I had a A4 BB 2.0 diesel and for the same amount of fuel and journey, I'm now getting ~100 extra miles per tank.

I only use Esso standard fuel with the required dose of Archoil.

There could be something more sinister going on there.

Edit: what's the service history? I changed the air filter and spray cleaned the MAF sensor shortly after getting mine, but I don't recall the MPGs ever being as low as you're seeing.

I also think my car has the latest version of software.

I think where I live I'm probably not going to get much better to be honest, I live in a valley so as you can imagine lots of ups and downs. Also think that the Quattro version that I have is never going to be as good as a FWD that I'm assuming you have?

It has full Audi service history and 1 owner from new so the Audi dealer servicing the car was always the same one as well. I've ordered all the service bits to do it on Saturday but will have a look at the air filter this evening to see whether it has been changed. According to the schedule it should have been done at 60,000 and Audi last had it in at 62,000 but it doesn't mention the air filter.

Edit: the previous owner had never reset the long term trip computer and over 67,000 miles it only averaged 38. It has risen now and did on the way home the day I bought it, obviously I've reset it now as I had updates done to the VC.

That's interesting. Do you know which version of software it was / is now?

What's you're typical driving and MPGs were you getting?

Not really sure, he just said it's been rolled back to the previous software so assuming it's on what it left the factory with.

I've only had it a week so I've been driving quite light just to see what I can achieve but the 170 mile motorway trip home it only managed 43MPG which I thought was quite poor, there was no traffic during that journey either and speed was around 70-80. Locally and back and fore work I was only managing mid 30s on Monday and Tuesday, now since Wednesday I've been getting nearly 50 on the way to work and mid 40s on the way home and locally, I haven't seen 30s again since so I'm definitely inclined to think it has made a difference. Haven't tried it on the motorway again yet but will do soon and report back.

Why did you have the software rolled back?

The car never seemed very good on fuel compared to what it should be getting so when I took it to have the maps updated and some other mods (auto high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, active lane assist and the S5 VC screen) he mentioned the emission recall which had been applied to my vehicle in 2021, he said this would have made the car worse on fuel consumption, and he appears to have been correct.

Hi if you are going to get the adblue mapped out make sure you use a top notch company as there are plenty out there that do it but with varying degrees of success and they will get you to sign a disclaimer telling them that the car was going to be used off road only, do not map out the EGR or DPF as that will come back to bite you.

    Steve.

Thanks again Steve, I will be sure to find a reputable company to do the mapping and will leave the EGR and DPF alone.

Just a quick update on my car, I've had the ecu software rolled back from the emissions update that Audi done and the guy who done this for me cleared the codes which still haven't come back on yet, this was done Wednesday (26th) and still nothing at the moment. I'm hoping either the DPF cleaner I used has solved the issue or I'm also thinking that the roll back may have changed the efficiency thresholds and thus not bring the warning back on.

For anyone interested, the fuel economy seems to have improved a bit since the roll back as well.

Hi the natural regeneration process is not affected by the low pressure cooler being blocked and will carry on regardless of this I assumed that the EGR cleaner when mine was going would keep it clear in the end I was using a bottle every week but unfortunately the outcome was the same, replacement as the cooler had rotted out and was feeding water into the tubes which resulted in water loss and the tailpipes going white.

    Steve.

Thanks Steve, unbelievable that this engine has been designed like this. Well hopefully the warranty will sort my car out then I think mapping the Ad-blu out will stop this happening again.

Hi yes do not delete the code and go to them and lie through your teeth say the light has been on a couple of times, normally the light comes on and stays on because its so blocked with adblue crystals, its crap design the last one I saw fitted was down at my local garage, I took the old unit to the sink and ran it under hot tap nothing flowing through the holes at first then a sudden gush of water and it was pretty much clear except for some carboned up tubes it was probably 75% clear so that would lead you to believe that the main problem is the crystals of adblue and replacement is the only real option.

    Steve.

Thank you for your reply Steve, I put in some DPF cleaner yesterday and then some fuel (not a full tank) and within minutes it had started doing a regen. Not sure if it was just a coincidence but I kept it running until it finished and these were the numbers.

    Measured = -6.24g

    Calculated = 5.26g

    Oil ash mass = 34.46...

I then cleared the code and so far this morning it hasn't come back on but if it does I'll get in touch with the company and leave the code there.

    Thanks, Jordan
