  1. Sunday 20th. So I've gone through the underside and NS inner arch and engine bay. No sign of any wiring or connector for the front NS level sensor. My assumption is that this variant only has the rear level sensor? As I had a new front sensor and I'm still getting the message, I wired up the front sensor to the rear and still got the same message. So I am looking for someone who can confirm to me if I need to have a module reset, locate the range control module and replace? and should it only have a rear level sensor? Thank you all. DaddyN
  2. Colour is Garnet Red. It's nice when machine polished or with fresh was and AutoG ceramic polish on. It does show up very stone chip, mark and ding though.
  3. Hi all, Something strange that you may be able help me with. When hot or cold, my car starts to whine above 30 Mph and is quite loud 40 /50 Mph. When you take your foot off the gas, its still there. When you put the trans into neutral it's still there. Now both front wheel bearings have been replaced in the past, I've had the power steering pump tested and PS fluid replaced, the alternator bearings have been checked and they are sound. So, the next thing would be the tires, but all for these were replaced six months ago. I've had the car on axle stands today whilst dealing with another fault headlamp range control, and I have inspected around the gearbox and the driveshaft and the brakes and bearings. All seems to be in very good condition for a 14 year old car. When I had the brakes done a little while ago, I had them checked the bearings and they said no there is nothing wrong with those. The only thing after trawling the web would seem to be an issue with the transmission. However the transmission is silky smooth, and there are no errors or faults. The only thing I can think of is that according to the service history, the auto trans was serviced at 51K, it is now 115K on the clock and it hasn't been done since. I have it booked in to be serviced next week, but I do not believe the transmission is the problem. I do not know if maybe the front differential is low on oil as I do not know enough about this car to go hunting, and if I find the filler hole, I do not have any suitable gear oil to replace it with or the equipment to do so. I can only describe the noise as a very loud mechanical whine it gets louder the faster you go and gets quieter the slower you go. Once you get to about 20 mph, the noise goes completely, and I'm hard acceleration you don't really hear it either, it only seems to be within normal use. All temperatures and pressures seem to be normal, there's no hot smell coming from underneath, no binding brakes or bearings. There is no oil leaks from underneath, everything is pretty dry and clean. Any help would be most welcome.
  4. Hello, I have an A5 8T3 (2009 coupe 2.7 TDI) with Xenon lights. It recently went in to have the rear brakes replaced and has been working fine. Then two days later the dash warning "Headlight range Control Defective" comes up. After reviewing the web and some tube video's, it looks like a faulty sensor. I inspected the rear as that may have been disturbed with the brake works. I found that the arm that links the lower joint to the sensor arm was snapped off, and both mini ball joints rusted and seized. So to cover my bum, I ordered both front and rear sensors. This is the first time this message has appeared. I installed the rear sensor today which took me 3 hours! as working on axel stands. A bit of a pain, but all done. I powered up the car and low and behold, the warning has come on! Okay, so maybe the front also needs to be replaced. Jack, axel stand swap to front and lets go....Err NO! On inspecting the NS front, there is no sensor or wiring!!! Both NS and OS wheels are off, so I inspected the OS to, no sign of wiring. I removed the arch liner, no wiring. I have no idea, but there is no wiring for a front NS sensor. I've had the headlight out and gone through the wiring and trays etc, nothing. So, does this version only have a rear sensor? Should it have both? There is no wiring that I can find for the front. Does one of the modules need a reset in VCDS etc? I don't have any software or hardware to do this, but I'm concerned that one of the previous owners may have hacked the wiring? Some pictures attached for reference if anyone can shed some light on this for me please? Thanks DaddyN.
  5. Hi, I'm Nick known as DaddyN. I'm a budding home mechanic and have been repairing upgrading cars for 20 years. I'm mostly used to Ford and Vauxhall but now I'm in with the AUDI crowd. I have an A5 coupe 8T3 Auto 2.7 TDi. It has a few minor issues of which I will check for previous posts then post new. However, here is a quick list of things I need to get resolved. Whine from the front drive above 30 Mph that gets louder the faster you go. Put trans into N and the whine is still there. It's not the PS Pump, Alternator or wheel bearings as they have been done and its had new tyres too. Headlight Range Control Defective. I look forward to the forum and hope I can help others along the way. Cheers, DaddyN
