  1. You're right guys, they must be common alright. Heard back from a breakers that I'd queried, he has a box for me for €130, happy with that. Just source a front subframe now, might get the rear also. Rust proof them, swap the box, subframes and under seal all at the same time. I guess I'd be married to the car after all that work. 🤞
  2. Thanks Steve, the 6 speed would be nice, I hadn't realised how many different gearbox versions there were.
  3. I've been offered a lovely 2.0 TDI, 2008 B7 S-line avant with a blown engine. The engine code is BRE and the gearbox is JEM. What do you think, would it be more trouble than it's worth, is the BRE engine just rubbish and is there a reasonable alternative?
  4. Hello, I've a 2003 A4 B6 Avant with a knackered gearbox (serious crunch when going from 3rd back down into second) My engine is the AWX 130 1.9 TDI, the gearbox is a 5 speed manual, the gearbox code is FEC. A mate of mine has a gearbox from a 2008 A4 B7, however this was on a 2.0 TDI, engine code BRE and the gearbox code is JEM. It's also a 6 speed. I guess it's a long shot that the gearbox would fit but it's so hard to figure out the codes I don't know. Would anyone know for sure? Thanks
  5. Hello All, It's my first post here, but I've often got good advice from here already. In the past I owned a 1999 A4 B5 which I had for 10 years, it was a really reliable car. Currently I have a 2014 A6 C7 S-line, owned it for 6 years now, it's a very good car too, and a pleasure to drive. I just recently bought a hobby fixer upper, a 2003 A4 B6 Avant, AWX 130 bhp engine, that needs a bit of work alright.....gearbox, subframe etc. I'll be annoying a few people with questions about that one. Cheers
