Front shocker, MoT Advisory, misting of oil
Many thanks to you all for your reassurance, much appreciated. I have history with the tester being a tad over zealous. I also have a 1990 Ford, bought new and now with 13,000 miles on the clock. Last year he failed the car for headlamp beam adjustment, charging £40 to adjust it and retest, plus an Advisory for a crack in front number plate that had been there for the last 30 years. It’s pretty obvious that I take care of that car and I was livid at it being given a fail in its MoT history. I went back with the Audi because it’s 4 years old with 18,000 miles, didn’t expect any issues.

Front shocker, MoT Advisory, misting of oil
Thanks for the reply, Gareth, much appreciated. It was MoT’d by a national chain, the one that is currently winding down its UK operations, not sure if Forum rules allows me to name them? I do plan to remove the road wheel and take a look myself, not 100% sure I know what I’ll be looking for.

Front shocker, MoT Advisory, misting of oil
My car has just had its second MoT and has covered less than 19,000. It was given an advisory for light misting of oil, near side front shocker. Any advice from the forum? Is this a common issue? At what stage will it need replacing? Replace individual or both fronts? Parts availability? Is it an expensive job (Manchester, UK)? Many thanks.

Emission lamp
Thanks @Audisq524 given my lousy duty cycle of late (personal reasons, not my normal driving cycle), relatively short distances, stop start etc, it seems reasonable that the upstream sensor collected a bit of soot and that now, post a 200 mile run, it’s once more clean? Out of interest, where is the sensor? Is it accessible or does it require half the car to be dismantled to get at it 😩

Emission lamp
I took the car for a drive at motorway speeds for about 30mins. Lamp remained on as I return home but after its start-up routine checks next morning, it had disappeared. I bought a cheap reader and plugged it in this morning. Here’s the screen. Appreciate any thought/comments?

Emission lamp
Thanks for the replies. My manual shows it as Emission control system Battery now fully charged. I’ve started the engine, but not driven away, and lamp remains illuminated. Do the entry level readers work well enough for me to understand the issue, maybe delete the fault? Thinking something like Motopower MP69033 or is something significantly more expensive required?

Emission lamp
Thank you, both. Could be low battery as I hadn’t driven the car in a while. Yes to other gremlins. Pre-sense large icon came on for apparent reason and it also flagged low tyre pressure. Checked and all 4 same reading on gauge, but I’ve reset it. My wife had an Audi TT and battery drain was a common reason for spurious warning lamps. I’ll give the battery a charge and then take the car for a run, fingers crossed.

Emission lamp
I’ve owned my 2022 2.0l diesel since new, now done 16,500 miles. I’m retired so don’t use it a lot. It hasn’t had a good run for a few months. The emission lamp has just come on. Could it simply need a decent motorway run? Will I learn anything from a lowish cost OBD Reader (any recommendations?). Or is it best to seek help from nearby Indy garage?

Removing the engine bottom tray
Thank you, both, very helpful replies. The car is exactly two years old and only now is the screen showing that first service is required. I’ll be booking it in soon but I’m loathed to ask Audi to retrieve it for me. Even a ten second job at their million pound an hour equates to a high cost. I’ll probably wait until after the service before jacking up the front end. I have two 1980s Fords so quite used to laying on my back but I’m getting a bit old for it these days. The vacuum is an interesting thought, I may give it a try before getting out the spanners.

Removing the engine bottom tray
Confession time. I like to keep my 2022 2.0l diesel clean under the bonnet. The other day, I was using a long handle, 40mm brush around the bay when its head fell off. It fell into the abyss. It’s not visible so is almost certainly now lying on the tray. How difficult a job is it to remove and refit the plastic tray? Or, any better solutions?

MMI not turning on, black screen.
I called into my local dealer today to chat to one of their service desk people. The good news:- 1. Coffee and biscuits were nice 2. He’s recorded our discussion on the car record 3. If I want them to look at it, it is a warranty issue. The bad news:- Given that the car is now working properly, they almost certainly will not find the problem. He told me that the OBD probably has “hundreds” of recorded faults but that unless it is currently “not working”, they can not further interrogate the OBD to find root cause of this specific issue. He did say that if it happens again, it may be helpful to the Technicians if I took a photograph to show dash working but touch screen dead. He added that it’s better than nothing and may give them a clue. Lastly, he also said that I can try a “restore factory settings” by pressing the radio on-off button for 10-15 seconds. For now, I’m leaving well alone.

MMI not turning on, black screen.
Hi @Steve Q and @Jonnyb537 New member here. I, too, have a 2022 A3 diesel. On 31/12/23, the touch screen remained blank. An hour earlier, I had driven 75 miles without problem. I tried the full extent of my knowledge of car electronics, I switched the car off and then back on again. Still blank screen. Drove to lunchtime restaurant without the screen. Two hours later, return journey, it worked again and has done ever since. Car has 7,600 miles on the clock. I bought the car from new. I'm reluctant to take the car back to the Dealer until I know a little more. Google shows this to be a common problem but doesn't show much about a robust fix. Also, is this black and white a warranty issue or should I expect to have to handover my blank chequebook? Thanks in advance for any help and advice from fellow, frustrated owners.
