  1. For the record too it won't regenerate (clean out the DPF) if the car doesn't think it is warm - a lot of stars must align for that to happen and engine temperature is one of them at least according to VW bulletins which have above either 50°C (stationary forced regen) or 70°C driven with the particulate load below 40 grams above 40mph and 2000 rpm in top gear. There are measurement blocks visible in a diagnostic tool that will indicate what the car thinks the temperature is vs the instrument cluster display. You need to get a number of measurables checked - water temperature is one, the current DPF ash level, particulate load and differential pressure are others - though if clogged it should set a check light your mechanic hopefully knew enough to look for this stuff. The diesels need at least an hour I believe above 2000rpm or a forced regen, a 38 mile trip around town won't cut it for sure - I really don't know what the star alignment needs to be for Audi but I doubt it is massively different to the 2013 2.0 Passat we have. If the regeneration cycles are occuring then the DPF should be fine, but if they aren't then for sure it is when not if that DPF chokes and a DPF can make a diesel run really poorly. You may want to ask your mechanic to check the intake also, our Passat needs all the crud from the EGR cleaning out at least every two years, first sign of this is usually an intake air flap intermittent fault. Diesels for short around town stuff are a liability but they never tell people this when they sell them, if all that you do is short around town stuff do yourself a favour and get out of the diesel into a petrol.
  2. Does anyone here know of a dipstick for the CREC engine ? there are some available for the 3.0tfsi but they aren't for the 3.0 CREC and Audi do not even list one for the CREC engine, I don't think that there are many supercharged CREC's. The requirement to run the engine until hot then wait 2 mins is such nonsense - I learned not to even start the engine unless I checked the oil - the stupid sensor doesn't seem to have a provision to indicate overfilled either - the JagI'm getting rid of is afflicted in the same way so you can't tell if the level is actually rising due to fuel contamination or worse water. Is there a way to check the car cold - I tried with the bonnet open but it still says 'engine must be warm and wait 2 mins' - BS I need to wait it has been sat on the driveway all night. Guess I'm too old school but I do not care for this design much.
  3. Item 1 : Called the water box for whatever reason, the two holes require plastic 'screws' which is part number 8K0819664 Item 2 : The splash panel requires push type retainers / rivets - Part number 4D0807300 Item 3 : Requires a pair of plastic pins - part number WHT001506A The adaptive cruise radar unit in the bumper needs a mounting repair kit as it is loose and not secure at the bottom, ordered, part number 4H0998561
  4. Was sold as a trade in with no warranty, I got a good price as the dealer just wanted to offload, I knew what I was getting into and the price reflected that trust me.
  5. The S4 (2015 B8.5) delivered Wednesday has now gone under the magnifier, I need a whole bunch of plastic clips for the front under the bonnet - those push things that hold on 1 : The scuttle under the windscreen - holes at the outer edges near the wings that should clearly have something in them 2 : The apron that goes over the bonnet catch between the grill and covers the radiator pack. 3 : The top of the radiator pack is not secured - I have no idea what should be present - there are two large rubber pieces on the radiator pack, two holes in the metalwork but these holes too are empty. 4 : Drivers door mirror heating element has croaked so need a new mirror - I prefer genuine as I have had issues in the past with aftermarket (coming unglued or simply not lasting long) - anyone know the part number for aspherical heated ? - there are a lot of numbers listed by my sources, if it is the number I believe 8F0857536H the cost is horrendous from Audi - best part of £500 .... but I don't know if my car came with the auto anti dazzle because I cannot find the buiild codes. I'd like to know how the S4 door mirror covers should be - should they be painted or should they be a 'matt' chrome - mine are painted but not particularly well so I don't think that is factory. There is no build list sticker anywhere in the car that I can see so guess I need to ask Audi unless anyone knows of a simpler way to figure this out - need the trim codes in particular and no there are no stickers on the B pillar or the doors. All the wheels need the lacquer replacing, could probably do with a replacement drivers door but only if I get overly picky, the AC is dead - Error G359 - have already ordered a new sensor (genuine of course) 4HO 959 126C if anyone cares, there is gas in the system. I will need to take it into Audi in the next month or so as I only got one key and the adaptive cruise is complaining about not being correctly calibrated - anyone have any idea the cost of this calibration at Audi ? - I may try resolving myself before committing to Audi abuse, zeroing out the "misalignment angle, horizontal" and "vertical deadjustment" to 0 - I believe it should do a dynamic calibration when this is done but I will check the radar first - checked - there is only one and it is loose .. too cold, too dark and too wet to be messing further. Car is a dark grey, I will try to get some pictures of the locations of the missing clips tomorrow when the light returns. Anyone thinks they recognise it I would love to know what you know. The car is a stage 1 tune but I don't know who by, there is a stored code '15148 - Maximum Engine Speed Exceeded: Engine Warranty VOID!' but the recorded speed was 100 km/h and part throttle, charge pressure 1.979bar but according to the fault frequency this has occured 49 times - it won't be getting anywhere near so abused during my tenancy, though it doesn't seem to have suffered much, there is a PCV intermittent but the frequency is only three. I fully expect to replace it at some point based on all the posts I have read and video's watched.
  6. The XJS definitely a hands on car, we also have a Passat estate - and have had one for near three decades because they just do what we need them to, had a Passat B2 once upon a time. The XJL is like driving a sofa, all the toys, plenty of presence but you can't leave it long without putting a battery maintainer on it, two weeks is stretching it and I really don't care for driving for the sake of driving because a car can kill a battery otherwise. When I say kill I do mean kill, the stupid systems in the car are not protected by all the so called tech and it will run the battery down to a voltage from which it will not recover. To make matters worse you cannot get in the boot (trunk for those in the US) without power - there is no externally accessible route. I won't bore anyone with the gory detail, Jaguar say there's nothing wrong but the third battery will be the last one I put on the car - it lives on the charger now I simply don't trust it. If it were used every day it would be a none issue, but it isn't. Will the S4 have the same issues - I'm sure it will - difference being that I don't need to tear the car apart to get power into it should that prove necessary. I've left the Passat on the drive for 8 weeks and had no issue starting it, hoping the S4 will be similar though it won't get left that long.
  7. I can't see me ever parting with the XJS but I'm no fan of the new Jag models, the XF suffered corrosion where it shouldn't and the XJ has been a money pit and has the most unreliable electrics I've ever encountered - which says a lot since the XJS you would expect to be the bad guy. As far as the return to Audi goes still full of the new toy enthusiasm and looking for things to fix that aren't broken - perhaps I've become accustomed to always needing to fix something ... or addicted.
  8. Stranger here but no stranger to Audi, have had a number going back years - the last one an A8 4.0TDi - prior to that an A6 Avant, fancied a change so deserted to Jaguar having been a Jag fan since I got my first long trousers but could never afford one- yeh I am ancient. Anyhow After 9 years in Jaguars - an ZF SV8 and an XJL I've had enough, the itch has been scratched, I was going to get into a Bentley or even a Rolls but I happened upon something that interested me. Bottom line I just dropped some coin on a 2015 S4 black edition Avant which is currently in 'preparation', car is already stage 1, just getting a full service and a couple of jobs done. I've had a VAG product in some shape or form for the last 30 or so years - we also run a Passat B7 Estate - but a sensible 2.0TDi - I don't know how many here work on their own vehicles but I try to do 90% of my own stuff, have owned VCDS for a very long time, never had to code anything as I always had a tame VW tech in my pocket that had the access to handle such things, alas he retired and is no longer able. Anyhow happen I'll be around for a bit to see what the scene here is like.
