  1. Headline: Time-Capsule 1996 Audi A4 (B5) 2.8 V6 30v Quattro SE – 23 Year Ownership – 74k Miles The vehicle is registered on a Private Plate 'D11DAX' if you want to search the vehicle. The plate that will come with the car is 'R77GTL' as in the photos Overview: Reluctantly offered for sale is this structurally exceptional Audi A4 B5 2.8 Quattro. I have owned and cherished this car for the last 23 years, during which it has been strictly garage-kept and stored in an air chamber. With just 74,500 miles from new, this is an increasingly rare "survivor" example of the flagship 30v V6 luxury saloon. "V5C in my name for 23 years". Key Highlight – Bodywork & Chassis: Unlike most B5s of this era, the bodywork is in excellent condition and the chassis is structurally superb. I have invested in a complete underbody de-rust and underseal to preserve it for the future. It sits on clean alloys with fresh tyres and remains in original Audi specification. [1] Interior & Maintenance: Interior: Impeccable full blue leather interior—a rare and luxurious combination. Provenance: Full service history with all receipts and MOTs during my 23-year tenure. Major Work Done: Cambelt, alternator, brake calipers, vented discs, and full rear poly bushes. New shock absorbers and Audi coil springs also fitted. The Condition / The Project: The car has recently developed a fault on the ZF automatic gearbox. It currently has no forward drive, though Park, Reverse, and Neutral all function correctly. Due to a lack of lift access and personal circumstances, I am unable to undertake the gearbox repair. This is the only reason for the sale of an otherwise mechanically and aesthetically sorted modern classic. Technical Note on Transmission: The car is fitted with the ZF 5HP19 automatic gearbox. It has recently developed a fault where forward drive is unavailable, though P, R, and N remain fully functional. This is a known symptom often associated with the 'A' clutch drum. Having already performed a full Auto Trans Service and Fluid change during my ownership, the rest of the drivetrain is well-maintained. This is a straightforward fix for someone with a lift or a specialist contact, and is the only thing keeping this car from being in daily use. "A replacement reconditioned ZF 5HP19 unit is available from UK specialists for approximately £1,550, or a used unit can be sourced for around £400. Included in Sale: Full history file. Original rear lamp clusters (to return to 100% OEM look if desired). Current "Lexus" style rear lights (as pictured). Summary: This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiast or specialist to acquire a low-mileage, rust-free B5 Quattro. With the gearbox remedied, this would arguably be one of the finest examples of the 2.8 SE remaining in the UK. Location: Car is located in Luton, Beds, UK Price: £4000 ovno
  2. Thanks Kev, I was hoping it was not going to be inside the box, I usually give most things a go but I have never tackled a gearbox removal before, let alone an Audi one. I would not even know where to start. The other issue I have had is even trying to find anyone who would look at this, because when you mention it is an Audi they all run a mile and that was even the gearbox specialists except the one who quoted a fortune. How long would a job like this take, roughly? Does anything have to be reset on the ECU's if you remove and refit the gearbox? Appreciate your help.
  3. Kev, just to clarify when you say the band snapped do you mean the shifter cable that connects to the gearbox or are you referring to something snapping inside the gearbox please? It is a shame you were not nearer, could have done with your help. I have Quickjacks that I can put the car on but that only gives me limited clearance to get the exhaust and prop shaft off and then access to the gearbox.
  4. Thanks audia4b5kev, I am guessing from your answer the problem may lie inside the gearbox, not something I was looking forward too. Not an easy job then?
  5. I need some help please? I have a 1998 A4 B5 2.8 Quattro which I have owned for some 21 years, I have not had anything major go wrong on the car until earlier this year when I heard something snap whilst trying to move the gear selector to drive, now I can only put the car in P, R and N, when I move the selector to D or any of the forward gears (2,3 or 4) it does not engage the gears. I managed to reverse the car into my garage but will not be able to drive her out. I believe it may be the gear shift linkage (but some expertise would help), which only has access from below the car. I know the tranny is all okay as she has always drove smoothly and changed gears effortlessly, I also changed the tranny oil and filter last year. Recently I have done a diagnostic and came up with the following results, some help in understanding what these codes are and which ones I should be concerned about please? I had to put as new battery on her which consequently thru up the airbag faults which I cannot now clear. after this test I did wipe the codes and then ran another test. The Shift Selector Locking Solenoid (N110) is working properly as is the brake light switch. If I cannot repair this then I may have to look at parting with her, which would be a shame as she has been kept in great condition over my tenure with only 75k genuine miles. Some advice would be good if anyone has had a similar experience and even more if there is anyone local to Luton who may be able to help to remedy this issue please?
