  1. Car currently has the silver / metalic trim (doors / centre console / dash) and around the centre console it's badly scratched. I did spot some lovely wood effect trim on ebay (but can't see it now and the seller was asking almost £800 ☹️) So that's waht I'm after - I like the slightly darker wood effect and if anyone knows or is breaking a 2017 A6 with the "wood trim" please let me know as I'd be very intested... although £800 would be pushing it 😆 Ta, Rob
  2. Hi. I'm looking for a complete, working MMI head unit that flips up/out and down/in for an A6 C7 (RH drive) 2017 - black dash trim The car had an after market screen fitted but it was badly done, didn't work properly and was permenantly live which wasn't doing the battery any good. I want to go back to an original screen, which I like. I'd be grateful if anyone has suggestions for a reputable supplier... or has one themselves. Thanks
  3. Quick update - as advised I booked an auto electrician - visited today and the battery had never been coded and was now knackered after just 2 months in the car - loads of spurious electrical faults, not back up by any issues / warning lights etc. So he'll be back to fit a new battery, properly code it; update the audi software; check & clear the faults and memory. I have asked him to replace the crappy after market head unit with an OEM audi flip up one. One job I have asked hiom to quote for but am not sure if I'll do it (if it's too expensive) is to fit a reversing camera and link to the MMI display. I used to have one on my last A6 and it was so so useful for hitching up trailers (and getting into short parking spaces!). Does anyone have any experience or idea of what a ball park installation cost of a reversing camera might be, just for comparision? Thanks
  4. yes - mobile - tech = electrician in my mind - mechanic is for the oily stuff!
  5. Thanks for the advice guys - have contacted a mobile tec with the aim of diagnosing and then disabling the problem so that the battery drain is stopped. Once we done that hopefully we can figure out a way to fix the problem properly. One thing I'm thinking (if it is this crappy screen thats causing the problem) is whether I can get a standard audi MMI flip up screen installed - the button is on the dash - and I don't need / want all the android stuff on a car screen - so long as I have a hands fee phone and Absolute 70's & 80's on the radio - I'm pretty happy 😄 Re warranty - I checked thro' the warranty - electrical stuff is only covered to £100 so not worth the hassle, especially as the nearest Evans Halshaw branch is about a 4hr drive.
  6. Thanks for the replies Guys. I suspect that it could have been fitted probably not correctly - I have had my suspcions for a few weeks now when the battery has struggled to turn over the engine. Das, It's not the same as the one in my previous A6 (flipped in and out) and while some of the screens look the same as the normal audi MMI, they don't operate in the same way and there's this blooming awful andriod auto - I will check out the vid (thanks) and the I suspect I'll need to find a specialist - not so easy in the far North East of Scotland!
  7. Hi Gareth. Yes the car is new to me - purchesed from Evans halshaw in Feb - they had a new battery fitted prior to sale. I have not touched the infotainment system, but previously I had a 2014 A6 avant with the audi MMI fold out system that worked faultlessly. Someone said to me that this was an aftermarket system which makes me suspicious. As I said I am a complete numpty reghards most electrics - I have a multimeter, any chance you could explain how to check and get a reading of parasitic drain. Very grateful if you could advise. Car is currently on charge to get the battery back online and I'm out for the rest of the day, but will get onto any instructions asap and report back, Thanks Rob
  8. As per the title I have a battery that is being discharged when the car is left. A6 Allroad - 2017 -It has a fixed screen installed (not the slide in/out one) and this has android auto. I have disabled Andriod auto from my phone. The screen seems to operate a bit wierdly. Switch on the ignition and the radio comes on, but the screen does not illuminate. Press the Radio button on the centre console and the screen will come on with the usual audi display for the radio. If you then press say the Phone button, it displays the andriod screen. Pressing the radio button again, will bring up the usual Audi phone display. When you switch off the ignition, the screen remains illuminated with the android screen and I have found that touching the little x on the top right hand corner of the screen, appears to close the screen off. I also have a dash cam that's plugged into the ciggy lighter and that powers up / powers off when the ignition is switched on and off. I believe that the problem lies within the infotainment system. The battery was brand new in February this year. Question. Has anyone had this problem before and how did you resolve it? I have an OBDeleven - would this show any fault codes? If so what should I look for? I appreciate that electrcial faults can be quite difficult to track down, especially where the individual (me) is a complete numpty with anything more complex than a simple fuse of bulb, so is it worth taking to a specialist or would an audi dealer be capable of tracing the fault. Thank in advance for any advice cheers Rob
  9. Arrhhhhh... just changed the A6 for one 3 years younger and it's driving me mad. I am not tech savey I just want to connect my phone to the car via blue tooth to use the phone and use the google maps opn my phone - when I try it says can't find bluetooth device. I think I have connected via this andriod app, but I don't like it - the google maps come up but it does not dim in the dark as does the phone. and what on earth is the wierd bit on the screen on the right? seem to do nothing. I just want to be able to use my phone hands free - that's all I dont care about the rest of the stuff. Can anyone direct me to a simple resource or how to guide for this type of kit. Thanks in advance
  10. Hi Gareth - I pulled off the electronic history and that shows annual servicing at Audi dealers for the 1st 6 years of its life. It looks like the 2nd owner hardly used it as there's a period from Aug 22 to Aug 24 (the MOT dates) where there is no =service or inspection recorded but it only covered 6000 miles in those 2 years according to MOT data. This is further boune out by the advisory for the front brake disc/pads in the 2023 MOT. This advisory appeared again in the 2024 MOT. Around this time I guess it might have been sold (3 owners total) and the new owner probably had the brakes fixed as the next service was in Germany Audi Frankfurt in 2025 where they did the whole thing, incl the G/box service (42000 mile). I'd have like to have seen the g/box service being done sooner, but I'm not too worried by that... (or should I be 😏?) The MOT in Aug 25 shows that the advisories for the brakes are clear and the next service was in Jan 26 (oil). To be honest I'm pretty comfortable that the history appears genuine. The only things I'm not sure about service intervals for things like the ad-blue (never had it b4) and if the air suspension needs servicing from time to time. Perhaps the servicing questions are best discussed in a new thread, but I'll have a look see if there are any threads about this. I'm aware that the car computer will advise of service intervals, but I have always done shorter service intervals - Preventative maintenance is always cheaper in the long run.
  11. Thanks, I think i'll just err on the side of caution and leave well alone. Now to see if I can do some sort of deal on the allroad - good start as it has a full audi s/h.
  12. Sorry not made myself clear - I want to remove the wheels & tyres off my old car (A6 C7 avant 2014) 245/45R18 and fit them to the new car 2017 A6 allroad. The dealer would then put the nice shiney 19" wheels & tyres on my car which they will be taking as p/x From what I have read 17" rims provide a better ride - hence my interest (not bothered by the bling!) - additional benefit is that I'm saving at least £50 a corner on replacement tyres. HOWEVER...... 😁 I am no expert so if anyone has opinions about the relative merits of 17" rims and 19" rims do please put your views forward.... I am based in the far north, sometime roads not great. Comfoort and road holding more important than high speed boy racer handling... left my boy racer days 45 years ago 🤣
  13. Current car has 17" rims - car I'm considering buying has 19" - Both are A6 c7, though one is the Avant and the other is the allroad. I guess there might have to be a reprograme of the "brain", but any reason why not? Ta
  14. Currently have a 2014 A6 c7 avant and considering changing to an all road at around 2017. My wife has a 2l skoda Octavia diesel 1st registered in Jan 2018 and that does not have ad blue. Understand why cars have adblue but I don't drive in cities so to my mind it's yet another thing to go wrong. Is there a definitive resource that lists when models had to have adblue? Thanks
  15. Appeared on the dash this morning, but not seen again today. 2014 A6 C7 I'm in the UK - as far as I can tell language settings are English Is it some sort of warning for updates?
