A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Just to add a little . I did originally part remove the scuttle panel searching for the alarm sounder , but actually did not spot the thing ! It was tucked down under an alloy rain shield ,which i did not notice it living under there, being black in colour and lower than i expected...

A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Well thankyou to those of you who did try to help find my Alarm siren. I did eventually find the thing .... not an easy task as it was Muted ,and it was more or less search until you find ! The alarm sounder is situated in various different places , depending on model ,year, and type of engine . What a game ,this was working outside this time of the year. Unfortunately i do not have off road parking or drive or garage, but a bay parking area over the road from me. Endless times lugging Jacks and tools over the road and dodging the rain showers and cold ! All in all i spent 15 to 20 hrs in total over the past weeks simply stripping out and refitting ... wheel arch liners x 4 rear hatch inner side panels x 2 and rear bumper removal to no avail . Although it was found (last of course ) under the front scuttle panel after removal, Its no help really to others other than to start there first would be my advice. I asked 2 inde dealers and one dealer Level main VW dealership. No idea " bring it in sir and we will find it " Yes right ! @ £100 per hr plus Vat . no thanks. So there we have it , but now the pressing question for me is Where is the Engine ECU situated ? I need to remove and inspect and clean the ECU plug pins ,as i have a smaller issue to sort out . As you have guessed it was not in the plenum chamber under the scuttle panel. ..... Any offers !!!

Alarm location
Yes i did clifford. Still hoping for a reply for my alarm siren position weeks ago ! I keep searching to no avail as mine is MUTE ! Regarding the OP request for the position of the siren on the 8P version,it will 99% probably be behind the drivers side wheel arch liner at 10 oclock, hidden behind what i believe is a stainless tamper proof cover, that needs to be cut off and removed. Past posters claim that it is ,but its a good guess .... regards stefan

A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Well back to square one ! Drivers side wheel arch liner removed and ..... nothing ! So back to guessing the location again ! Mine is the sportback diesel version, and i have had suggestions that it may be behind the rear side fixings in the hatch area ...both side completely removed and replaced ... nope not there . Under the rear bumper .. nope not there . This leaves the scuttle panel .... yes you have guessed ... not there ! So now there are 5 options left. 1. front nearside wheel arch liner 2. rear nearside wheel arch liner 3. rear offside wheel arch liner . 4. Inside the engine bay .. lower down 5 . Under the front bumper ... What a joke ! Asked at 2 dealer level garages and so far their guidance has proved useless. The sounder alarm siren is dead ,so that removes the sound trace method. .... Any offers on here of location .? .. september 2013 2.0 diesel sportback. CRBC engine ...

A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Hi george. Yes i found some info regarding the 8P platform siren. Yes it does have a stainless steel cover that is either welded or riveted in place . Tamperproof is what VW call it ! The thing is that system was phased out due to being able to unplug it whilst armed .. hence the s/st cover. The newer type system on the 8V is monitored differently and thats why it has no cover thats difficult to get into. The good news is that the siren may still be in that same location as the 8P ,so just waiting for a break in the weather now . I have read that on the very early facelifts like mine ,it was put in the same place ,so i will investigate and post up what i find , as you may well be correct .. hope so ! cheers for help ... kind regards ... stefan

OIL PUMP DRIVE A3 DIESEL
Cheers for the info Steve. I dont have any repair procedure manual or digital yet for use,and will be looking into this shortly , especially DIY requires it these days. Yes meyle i have found are good , as with coteco. INA i believe were taken over and i noticed on suspension parts castings etc were not as good as they use to be. Febi ... not sure if they still manufacture parts at all nowadays , seem to be more like autodoc suppliers now . I have bought MEYLE droplinks/waterpumps etc for other vehicles and found them good. I may try the Ford sealant , as at the moment i use Victor reinze sealant usually ,but its expensive. Dont think i will invest £800 on the chain option ,but its nice to know . Its amazing how when first OEM parts are made , usually top quality products are used , need a good start for reliability until guarantees run out from new, and then other versions of the parts appear. Thanks again for info and reply to my post.. appreciated as always ... stefan

OIL PUMP DRIVE A3 DIESEL
Fair comment Gareth. I agree with that . I ordered a Corteco cover/seal from Autodoc as they are a reputable parts manufacturer (corteco),as with the crank pulleys etc they make. The problem was that as i mentioned, the part (topran ) from JGC and autodoc both had different mounting bolt holes ... so i did not know which was correct. The centre crankshaft seals are generally forgiving and seal well, but the outer plastic cover rubber seals are the leak point especially on the 2 bottom outer corners. The problem with aftermarket sees the plastic warp from engine heat and compromise the seal. Many are not perfectly straight to begin with. Most technicians apply a pea-sized dob of sealant to the lower outer corners when fitting ,as this area is a known leak point. However £150 plus vat and carriage ordered from LL is in my view well over the top ,even for OEM VW. I could of course reuse the old one, but a leak drip there can compromise the main timing belt , so not worth it. The cover itself is mounted dry ,as is the PTF seal,so a lot relies upon the quality of the part ,hence my choice of the Corteco . I will order one again from autodoc if i cannot find the same corteco (not chinese clone ) on Ebay once i get more info from LL. Thanks for your post .. always nice to talk to members ... regards stefan

OIL PUMP DRIVE A3 DIESEL
Yes thankyou Richard. It is the crankshaft cover. Same part but cortico on Autodoc £30.00 and on JGP about the same price but carrige free (cheap topran part ) I have returned both but found that one had 9 mounting holes and the other 10 ! so really did not know which may have been for petrol models ... I will contact LLL see what they say as i am not sure all the models listed are diesel on their site. Great reply and thankou for your help. Helps alot . Cheers .. stefan.

A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Hi again george. I will have a look but i do not hold much hope. The 2011 A3 is the P not the 8V platform. The first facelifts A3 appeared in hatchback form 2012 to 2013 and other variants saloon etc appeared thereafter. The other variants after the hatch began moving the siren to different venues according to trim/models. Even the first Facelift 8V platforms as on my CRBC diesel started moving them after 12-18 mths as they changed fuseboxes and wiring harnesses. The only good news is that my version did fit all in the same location .... but as to where that is ... god knows.! I will have a look and thankyou for your help george , its so frustrating and work intensive ... cheers ...

A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Hi george. Thankyou for your reply. Can i ask if this position for the siren is for the A3 facelift 2013 A3 diesel 2.0 ... 5 door hatch ,or unique for the Q5 ? I have a replacement siren exact part number, which is mounted with a 10mm single nut. I have not heard of the stainless cover mentioned above so was suspecting it is on younger audi other models. Have you had an early facelift model A3 in the past that confirms its location , as i am fed up with tearing down areas on the car looking for it. I tried locating by sound but now it seems as though the siren is dead ... Lights flash but no alarm sound. Probably battery has leaked and destroyed the PC circuit inside. I do appreciate your reply trying to help .. thankyou so much ... a bit more clarity would help especially if you have had the early facelift. Thanks again ... kind regards ... stefan

A3 8V Diesel 2.0 HATCHBACK 2013 FACELIFT 150 ps
Hello guys. I would like to know the exact location of my alarm sounder. I suspect the rechargable battery is on its way out ,and triggers the alarm occasionally. I have the first facelift 2013 model, hatchback 5 door. RHD . I have been told 4 locations of options. Does anyone know where it lives please ? There must be other members with the 8v facelift early type who may have had similar issues trying to locate it. Any help appreciated, as there is quite a bit of stripping down involved if not. Anyone know ? thanks to all for reading. ... regards

Exactly REG ! you know that the job has been done properly , and gives you a heads up as to any other issues whilst in there. I have never taken a car into a garage for repair. Only MOT test after my usual check overs following each years regular service /repairs by myself including belts etc. Last 25 years i have never seen an MOT fail, and only one advisory ,that being a nail in a rear tyre i did not see ! I got my licence at 19 yrs of age and all my service / repairs are self learnt (the hard way ) . I do not regret this , but spent many thousands of hours on my back over the years ,and always dreamed of a day that i would own a poster lift ... still waiting .. !!! I think all of this now , in an era of cars being serviced and repaired needing access to specialised equipment and tools, will soon be gone. Older cars easier to work on but old is old , and all eventually fall to the problem of electrics/looms issues. All can be overcome with time and money ,but this defeats the object financially . In the short term as i have just got the car,im still looking to do as much as i can myself , and have discovered a very limited access to parts lists and any parts being sold to end users via companies. Any extra sites online for parts OEM numbers and diagrams very welcome from others if possiible , this may help other members too .Keep up the good work reg .. once you stop the fitness level deteriorates rapidly. Happy spannering .. wish you all the best ... regards stefan

OIL PUMP DRIVE A3 DIESEL
Thankyou so very much Richard. That link has been a great help. That particular belt i actually have. It connects the bottom oil pump pulley (in the pump sump pan) to the toothed pulley on the crankshaft behind the timing belt toothed pulley. I cannot seem to find the oil / seal cover that fits over the crankshaft. Its a cover seal with a centre oil seal and complete outer rubber seal on the cover , that bolts on with about 9/10 bolts to the engine block and sump upper lip. There are so many variations for petrol and diesel in aftermarket (which i do not want) for this cover , i wanted OEM. I cannot find this cover/seal shown in the catalogue on LLL . It shows the wet belt and pulleys and the oil pump listed , but not the upper pulley cover over it. This cover has to be removed to access the top pulley of the wet belt to fit the wet belt. Cover has a one time PTFE centre seal , which is a one time use fit and has to be renewed after removal. I bought a topran cover on ebay but the quality had a lot to be desired. If you do find the cover /seal on here on LLL much appreciated. Once again thankyou so VERY much for you help Richard , very good website. Cheers ... many thanks

Audi repairs.
Do we have any EX VW fully trained members in the club that do jobs for members ? either private or trade ? Most clubs i have been involved with have small traders that offer service and repair for other members. Do we have lists of OEM original suppliers of parts to end users ? All questions worth asking as i try to keep costs low . Also do we have email facilities inside the club member to member ?
