Does sound like it could be a faulty sensor, and if the garage has checked everything mechanically, sounds like a good place to start.

From what I've read, a lot of people say they prefer Philips X-treme Vision, as apposed to the Osram Night Breakers. Here is a review of them both, you might be able to decide from this. Also, welcome to the forum.
