  1. Had the turbo replaced and the timing belt done this week . Got a new turbo, not recon and she goes like a dream. Timing belt, water pump and aux belt done, antifreeze. came to £1273 total. The car is a Quattro, so the turbo is a bit more of a pain in the butt. Only charged 5 hours labour for it. Got it book;ed in for a service now..
  2. Thanks for the replies, I've decided to go for a new turbo, but not OE as this was a very expensive option. I'm having the cam belt done at the same time so hopefully should have a good car for a good few miles :-)
  3. Hi All Need a new turbo for my 55 plate 2.0 TDi. Tempted to go with reconditioned as its half the price of a new one. Anyone fitted a reconditioned unit on here? Is it a matter of you get what you pay for or are they worth a shot? If so, does anyone know a reputable seller? New is obviously better and if i go down this route where is a good place to get a new one from? Not going OE as they are stupidly priced!! Cheers
  4. I did try penetrating oil and wd40 as it happens, but neither worked. The lock just would not budge. It's just lucky the starter motor is quite easily accessible once the shield is removed.
  5. Hi. Just a bit of useful info Had an A3 2004 8P1 (2.0 tdi) and the battery went flat. The door lock also didn't operate with the key, probably because it never got used due to always using central locking. The way I got over this was to jack the front of the car up. Remove the shield under the car, Remove the cover from the starter motor and connect the positive clip of a jump lead to the positive lead on the starter motor and the negative to the engine block. I then connected the jump leads to my other cars battery and operated the remote control. This allowed me to open the bonnet and re charge the battery. You could also do this with a jump start battery pack. Hopefully this will help someone else out.
  6. Just in case anybody was actually bothered, I got a second hand wiper motor and everything is ok..The wiper control is incorporated in the motor.
  7. Hi All Newbie A3 owner! Just bought an 04 plate 8P1 and everything is great apart from the wipers. When you turn them on they can work normally for a while then go absolutely mental fast or really slow. The offside one even clatters past the edge of the windscreen. Sometimes they just go mad straight away. Thinking it's probably the wiper motor as the control circuit is integral from what ive read. Just put it on here in case anybody else has come across this and has an answer? Any help greatly appreciated :-)
