  3. Good evening guys, just joined the forums. As you can see from the title, I'm the proud owner of a pair of Audi's finest. A 2004 S4 convertible and a 2001 S6, both have had long spells out of use and I'm slowly bringing them back to rude health. Look forward to picking your brains (which will probably be quite often) and chipping in my odd 2p worth. John
  4. Sorry but I have no idea what your recent message is trying to say. Turning to my original post I am merely asking if any kind of chassis plate may tell me what the original carpet's colour was. I know the current ones are not the original carpets.
  5. What a brilliant site this is, thanks to all posters. I've been struck by the dreaded BSGs as well. Last Saturday week I had the same sequence of lights very quickly resulting in a dead stop just before the A19, thank goodness. My car is a 2019 Q7 50TDI just out of warranty. I rang Audi Teesside, and they said get it to us and we will have a look but this will take at least a week! RAC recovery detected an alternator fault but they told me to verify this as they could not be 100% certain. They recovered the car to home and I arranged to get the car to independent Audi specialist. Last Thursday they told me that my BSG was faulty and a replacement would be 3K. I told them I would ring them back and subsequently found this site, thank goodness. Rang Lookers Teesside and told them my car was on it's way. They said they would have to do their own diagnostic checks They rang me back late Friday to say that the BSG is faulty. They did not know about the extended warranty!! what a surprise and they were getting in touch with Audi Technical. They rang back today stating that they have been instructed to undertake earthing checks, which they are on with They have as yet not mentioned a fee for the diagnostic checks or the earthing checks. I will keep you posted. Neil
  6. Forgot to mention that new AC compressor works perfectly fine minus the noise
  7. Hi all, i got myself a big headache probably because i try to save money and fix things by myself haha. I've bought my B8.5 few months ago and i did notice right away that there is some grinding/bad bearing noise coming from the AC compressor area and AC wasn't working (system had pressure and was filled correctly). Noise was quite annoying and I didn't wanted to spend money on fixing the issue back then, so i came up with idea to get myself shorter serpentine belt and install it avoiding ac compressor pulley. So i did that and it worked perfectly and there was no more grinding noise yeayy! So that should confirm me 100% that this noise was coming from compressor isn't it? But now I'm not sure as today i have installed brand new compressor put back correct length belt and the noise is back!! Compressor was filled with oil and recharged correctly. So could it be that new compressor is faulty same way as the old one? Or there is something else i could have missed? Noise does go away completely with higher revs, and gets better on idle when engine warms up. VID_20250519_203900.mp4
  8. Work has been going on in the background with this mainly gathering parts. I have ordered all the fasteners I think I’ll need, new shocks and springs, various links etc. Annoyingly the replacement subframe that I got had quite a few bolts left in that the breakers yard had cut off. I have managed to remove them all and have repainted it after some surface rust removal. It’s came up quite well and I have also used liberal amounts of cavity wax. I’m now toying with replacing the subframe bushes but I cannot for the life of me find a tool for it. I have found a bush removal tool for just about every other car. There are some that say Audi vw rear subframe removal tool but give no dimensions or say what models it’s for. Quite frustrating. Has anyone used or know of a way of removing these bushes ? Thanks in advance

  11. Update: I successfully bought a correct set from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk. The correct part is a Bosch A726 S. Local Audi garage wanted to charge me £90 for these but that website was £30.
  12. Hi Bob Great idea. Have you tried asking google? I find lots of useful info there. On the panel on lower section on each side are narrow slots to fit a radio removal tool. I've just looked at my A3 and they are there. Found this link on google which may help
  13. Anybody have an issues with their timing belts on Audi A3 8V 150 TDI, mine was replaced before i bought the car, 2021, have been told they're good for 6 years, i can hear a noise sounds like it's coming from the Timing belt cover area 10 mins after it's been running, have just read that they do seize, and the car is sluggish on acceleration, which mine is.
  14. Many thanks Rafael. So it would seem that it would be possible to place this number on a Retention Certificate ( cost around £110?), then select an agency to list it for you. Yes you gamble that money, but it does retain the number. Kind regards, Gareth.
  15. Hi guys, newsflash.......parts arrived from AutoCarPart 1 @ 15:15......fitted the replacement sensor (and detachable arm!) to the offside front......deep breath, ignition on, turn Jacki g mode off and....start. 30 seconds later the car is LEVEL. YAAY!!! I want to thank all you fab people who input their thoughts and support.....trust me on this, I'd not even have started on this without you guys cheering on from the sidelines.....I'm back on the road again....as soon as I've done the nearside just to be sure. Thanks everyone again.
  16. I am sorry enc, you are quite welcome to ask the question and I hope my last rant included an answer to you question. Please accept my apology.
  17. I do not, but given that it is the cause of warranty cancellation I suggest you return it to the vendor.
  18. Thank you very much for your comment, Gareth. I've never had any experience with private plates before so your insight is very much appreciated. I did request a valuation from a couple of specialist services and both valued it at £700-800 (what I would get in case of sale after their commission is taken). The car has been in constant use (judging by its MOT history) so had been continuously taxed I believe and has a current MOT. As to why the previous owner didn't retain the plate for themselves - it's anyone's guess I suppose. Also, thank you for sharing your experience that it may take a long time to sell - this is something I obviously need to take into account. Kind regards, Rafael
  19. Slightly miffed my question was deemed “criticism” and was not considered “worth commenting on” i was genuinely interested in the purpose of the switch as it maybe have been something I could incorporate into my own A3 dashboard. Never mind , I’ll move on
  20. Welcome Rafael, and thanks for posting your question. If we translate desirability into value, the route to that would be via getting a valuation from specialists such as Registration Transfers - there are many more. They will value it on a ‘Return to you’ basis and do all the advertising for you. My experience is that these can take an age to sell - if ever- but it’s well worth a try. One question worth asking yourself is :- If it were so desirable, why didn’t the previous owner retain it to reap more funds from the sale? As I understand it, the donor Golf would have to have a current MOT, and I believe ( but please check) will have to have been continuously taxed for the past 5? years. Please let us know what you find out Rafael. Kind regards, Gareth.
  21. Just bought an old Golf with S5UGR private plate and trying to understand how desirable this might be to some S5 owners if I decide to sell it? Might read it as "S5 SUGAR" I suppose so some might find it attractive? Any advice greatly appreciated.
  22. Morning I am trying to sorce a workshop repair manual for my A6 c8 Avant 40 tdi quattro any ideas or experience seen a few downloads online but is the car covered by anything yet thanks.
  23. Hello All I'm After some advice or what experience people have had with the dry dual clutch please. Done a service on our 19 plate A3 1.5 TFSI with 84000 on the clock and as a routine I look at faults using VCDS. Clutch pack 1 has come up as out of tolerance. It did flag up in August last year at 79000 miles. The latest fault is recent as I checked in April and it was not there. Car does judder intermittently in reverse, low gears and more so when hot. I was going to change the gearbox and mechatronics oil to see if it made a difference but stopped when I saw the fault again (I am aware this is filled for life but oil on the whole does not last indefinitely). On the whole car drives lovely and gear changes are hardly noticeable, except for the intermittent judder. Not wanting to be faced with a complete failure I can either change the clutch pack now (£2000 plus) or run with it for a while until the fault comes back and judder gets worse. Anyone had experience on this and outside of what I have had, any other warnings of impending failure? Thanks in advance

    Imported A1

the veh had a v5 when i purchased it and it all got sent off i just stupidly didnt know what to look out for on the v5 before buying. info on my v5 is very basic compared to my other car, is missing the euro status, emmisions dets and i dont have any copies of the import paperwork as i was informed it had all been sent of to DVLA to register the car. lesson learned to research what sort of paperwork to expect to have if i ever buy and import again. I dont mind the leg work to sort it, its a learning curve, but it is somewhat frustrating that its not been sorted by the garage prior and im having to correct bits. Im a tad annoyed at VW here not being able to guide me a bit better of contacting their Japanese counterparts however as this wont be the first time this sort of thing has been asked of them so why cant they assist in providing an email address for Japan to get the details??? too difficult box maybe....

    Imported A1

Hi hi, so i have had VW get back to me already, they are saying thy cant help me as its not a europe veh but an import...despite me saying that from the off set and i need to contact VW in Japan for the import paperwork... you go to their website- all in english- follow to the enquire form and then its all in Japanese and no way to translate so ive got no !Removed! clue where to go from here. essentially i just need to obtain paperwork from someone on what euro bracket it sits in for this to all get sorted but DVLA/ DVSA only accept paperwork from the import company. (you would havethought this would have all been supplied hen the veh was imported and an IVA done????) im tempted ot look at jst paying for an IVA to make it easier but i then argue in my head as to why i should be doing all this when it should have been done already!! !Removed! frustrating and feel like im going in circles a tad. sorry rant over.
  26. Do you know if Audi would be able to tell me the date of when the chip was fitted?
