  1. Hi everyone My beloved A6 Estate broke down (handily enough in a filling station) last Friday. I've since had it recovered to my home address and this morning I had some comms with my repair centre of choice (not an Audi dealer but a very reputable ex Audi mechanic). His reply nearly floored me. Diagnosis based upon the Fault Codes detailed below is that it is very likely (but not defnitively) to be a High Pressure Fuel Pump replacement. Their quote for this was £1850+VAT, without any labour costs. The mechanic alluded to having seen similar cases before now, one of which [due to damage to other parts of the fuel system] topped out at £7000!!! Fault codes from the AA Breakdown Report as follows: Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control 1 - VEH / Diesel EDC 17C64 UDSP008700 - Rail: Fuel pressure. Error Message : Pressure too low.P200200 - Diesel particulate filter (bank 1). Error Message : Faulty operation.P010400 - Air mass meter. Error Message : No signal.P210000 - Throttle valve control unit. Error Message : Open circuit.P210200 - Throttle valve control unit. Error Message : Signal too small.P324300 - Throttle valve control unit. Error Message : Electrical fault.P034100 - Camshaft position sensor 1. Error Message : Signal improbable The car in question is high mileage (212k) and has begun to sprout fairly pricey (c£400-600 ish) repairs every now & then of recent. Questions for advice from the floor - is £1850 + VAT a realistic price for a fuel pump? Is this likely, based upon the fault codes above, to be a number of issues as well as the pump? If so, I'm minded to write the car off, it has done me well for 5 years. I'm waiting a quote from an Audi dealer to compare. Thanks in advance for any advice people can give. LabOwner
  2. Afternoon all I have a 2014 plate A6 Estate and I would appreciate any advice you may be able to give. Last week I had it booked in for a service at a local garage on Friday. 36 hrs prior to the service the catalytic converter light came on, and so I dropped it off early with the garage and asked them to investigate the light after they'd done the service. I got a phone call from said garage, at around 1300hrs on Friday telling me that they'd done the service and that their diagnostic kit had come up with 3 separate fault codes relating to the warning light - namely a glow plug code, a Diesel Particulate Filter code and a cam shaft alignment code (the cam shaft was replaced last Autumn). The garage said that they could do no further diagnostics as their kit wasn't in depth enough, but they put me in touch with a garage with better diagnostic kit. Car has been with the second garage all morning today, and they tell me that they can't find any faults (possibly as the first garage may have deleted the fault codes). No warning lights, no fault codes, zip. Has anyone had circumstances like this before? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. LO PS - Picture of the warning lamp in question.
  3. Hi all I have just joined the esteemed ranks of Audi owners, I bought a second hand A6 Estate (S-Line) a few weeks ago. Absolutely delighted with it, it is the first Audi I've ever owned. Looking forward to gleaning some good hints & tips from all on the site.
