  1. Anyone know how to turn the spanner light out and the words "service due" when turning off ignition
  2. Hello all I have serviced my a3 2009 tdie . I have reset the oil mileage but am unable to clear the spanner for some reason. And when I stop it politely reminds me to service the car. It appears the spanner will not budge unless anyone can advise a way to get rid of it ? I have tried pushing and pulling the dash buttons but the spanner stays up. The piglet do these work ? eBay cable Thanks all
  3. Never mind . The Jack method has done wonders. Door re levelled !!
  4. But surely would it not be better to loosen the 3 hinge star bolts and lift it a tad ?
  5. Hi all. My front driver door appears to have dropped a little bit. No idea why. I can't see if there is a proper way to adjust it up. Can anyone advise? Thanks
  6. Yes they are normal. Nothing states they are directional. I could try rotating them. It's just strange. I can detect the sound at slow speeds even 10 mph but it's quite a change crossing onto a very smooth surface at 20/30/40mph. It almost virtually dissapears then. Cross Back on to a rough tarmac and it starts howling away.
  7. Here is the tyre image. The tyres were already on the car when I had it.
  8. No, it's not a quattro. So do you mean swap the wheels side to side on the car? It's dreadful. I have to get to the bottom of it now. I thought bearings but garage guys Def said not the bearings but couldn't tell what it was. Rather not go to the expense of new tyres as they are not too old just to eliminate it.
  9. Well, I have now tried swapping the rear wheels to the front and the noise is still there exactly the same. It's a similar sound to if you blow across the top of a glass bottle quietly. Sort of. There is a particular stretch of road near me that changes from a rough surface to a new smooth surface . The change in sound is remarkable when I hit the smooth surface. It virtually dissapears. Most odd. Seems to be coming from the back somewhere. Anyone have any thoughts ?
  10. I have this humming and or roaring noise coming from we think the rear of the car. It will change quite dramatically depending on road surfaces ,quiet on smooth and roaring on a poor road but always there. The tyres are reasonably new. I have just taken it to my local garage mate. Both him and one of his mechanics took it on a drive and can both hear it but neither can pin it down. They have had it on the ramp and checked the bearings and the tyres and are stumped. Anyone have any thoughts ?
  11. That is the method we essentially used. My dad is a mechanic of old. He was the spanner man issuing destructions. The only difference was the one way valve in the pipe dropping into the Jam jar full of fluid. The brakes were perfect before I removed the abs unit for repair so I'm guessing seals are still all ok. Popped it back on the other day and commenced bleeding and the only logical conclusion is air somewhere still. Could be the one way pipe but he knows what he's doing down there.
  12. Hi. The engine was not running. We used a one way bleed pipe, I put pressure on the brake pedal then the nipple was opened so the pedal goes down. I slowly pumped up and down 7 or 8 times perhaps 10 or so. Then held down pedal then nipple locked off. All in all done each nipple 4 times now I think all the time keeping the tank topped up. A bit different to your method ??? What do you think ?
  13. Brakes are ok I just have to press the pedal a lot further down . No trouble stopping as such like that. Car stops normally. I've done it on a load of gravel now so I'll bleed and see what comes . Abs was working well for sure!
  14. Following repair of my abs ecu block, and putting in new fluid I'm having trouble getting a good brake pedal. I have bled 2 times this week and I have heard I need to cycle the abs pump as the pedal is still soft. Not having software to use computers etc I have read that I can activate the abs brakes on Grass etc to get air out of the unit and bleed off again after that. Maybe a couple times. Is this correct ? Should it work? Thanks
  15. Has anyone got or is breaking an a3 car or so with Abs pump 1k0614517bj I'm shopping and was hoping to avoid eBay Thanks
  16. Anyone in Bristol got vcds or vag scanners to help me diagnose in Bristol for some beers ?
  17. Is there a particular part likely to be the cause?? The pump, the aluminium bit the plug in module?
  18. Can anyone plug me in for a beer to read why my abs lights are on. Need to narrow it down rather than throw money at the moment
  19. Does anyone know if I need to program a second hand abs pump and control module if I swapped one in ?
  20. Hi all. I have this A3 2010 1.9tdi A red brake warning light has come up and the yellow traction and abs light on. My local garage plugged in and he was saying it's the abs pump/ module etc but he wasn't sure and couldn't narrow it down. Will the car give me any codes some how ,any secret menus? I had the same on my BMW once and had to replace the aluminium part on the abs pump which looks similar. I have a couple of OBD2 dongles but they are a bit unclear with what they show. Anyone point me in the right direction?
  21. Yes. Simple. Just 4 torx bolts and lift it straight out. Possibly had a wire plugged in underneath and it just unpluged. Thanks I'd appreciate that
  22. No not yet. But it's highly annoying .I did take the seat out and start to look at it but didn't have time so put it back in.
  23. Yes it's this one. How do they come out? Do I need a pick axe and a shovel lol
  24. Hi all I have a 2009 a3. Standard head unit I guess. Had it a few months now but just noticed the right side speaker channels front and rear arent working properly. No bass at all from the front and the rear just sounds odd. I guess its so loud on the right I failed to notice lol I have taken the door panels off on the right but cant see anything odd. Cables etc Didnt have time last night but wanted to swap the speakers from left to right to rule them out. I am assuming they dont do anything funny and using the fade and balance in each corner I should get exactly the same sound ?!! But do these units go wrong ? Do they have any common faults before I start destroying the thing ? Thanks
