@Steph1234 the email I have used to get Andrew Doyle is - [email protected]

He never replies but you will get someone from Executive relations reply and then call you - or at leat that has been my experience.  I typically then cc Andrew Doyle on each email if things arent progressing!!!!

Thank you so much.  I’ll let you know if they surprise us all with a reasonable response.

Hi Steph, that’d be very kind of you. I’ll DM you. My dad’s Q7 is at Leicester Sytner Audi now. Obviously they won’t entertain discussing this until they’ve done their £140 diagnostics, but I’m certain it’s this issue, so I’m getting my ducks in a row… ready for battle.

Once they capitulate I’ll get them to comment on whether they would support someone in an A3 with the issue.. hope you’re ok.

    Sent.
Thank you. I’m grateful to have found this group to know I’m not alone as much as I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

Bristol wavered the diagnostic fee in the end so fight to get the money back too!

Hi all, quick update: we’re into week 3 of no Audi. It’s taken both Audi UK and our local Audi to come together with a “goodwill gesture”. They’ve agreed to pay approx 75% of the cost, with us having to foot the remainder. We have tried everything including sharing examples from this forum and yet neither side are budging about taking responsibility and sorting it out. 2018 Q7 and apparently not covered by the 7 year extended warranty (although they sounded surprised that we knew about this). Part is on back order however, so not 100% sure when the car will get fixed and back into our possession.

oh and because we don’t have the extended warranty, apparently we don’t qualify for a courtesy car. Go figure!!

What you guys have shared since our debacle has helped immensely. Thank you all.

If anyone has any questions, I’m happy to answer.

@Steph1234 I’m so sorry you’re having to go through all this again so soon after getting the problem fixed. It is horrendous that it’s happened again. I’d be interested to hear what the other dealership has to say.

So sorry to hear this has happened. It makes me so angry on your behalf as I know how it feels. I have an email from Bristol Audi telling me the warranty is only on Q7s (this is a lie it’s on more models but it would help you I hope). Would you like a copy @RKaur @DADSQ7

@RSW I am off work from Wednesday so will make it a priority to email. If you want to message me your email address I can cc you in. I will also contact DVSA thank you for passing on info previously. Are you happy for me to mention you in my correspondence with them so hopefully they make links?

I’ve taken my car to Bath now but haven’t heard back from Audi UK or Bristol yet. Intrigued to know how they’re going to rationalise 3 alternators failing on my 3.5yr old A3 with the latter only lasting a month before packing in. I’ll also be asking them for info on how many other A3s have this problem (I doubt they’ll give it to me but I’ll be trying to fight to get this model added to the 7 yr warranty list). It won’t help me but may help others in the future. I will also be asking for Andrew Doyle’s contact details to complain to him although I don’t hold out much hope.

  4. Flabbergasted I’m writing this but in less than a month of the alternator supposedly getting fixed…I’ve broken down again with the same 48v system problem. Going to try and get the car taken to Bath rather than Bristol now as I’ve lost all faith in Bristol. I’ve got extended warranty with Audi now thankfully however this is now the 3rd time this has happened to my 2020 car. Does anyone have the MDs personal contact details for me to complain to? Surely they’ve got to listen now that there’s a manufacturing fault? Any advice of suggestions of how I can take this further is very much welcome.

    Hi all,

Another one that seems to have fault. Audi A3 2021, only done 20,000 miles. Been quoted 1.8k for a new generator, 3 weeks out of warranty, dealership refusing to pay.

Does anyone know if I can go any further with this? Appreciate it is out of warranty, loyal customer had 3 Audis previously, all services with them ect seems to be no goodwill. I have emailed the MD this morning of Audi and Sytner.

Which dealership is this with? I was told by Bristol Audi and Audi uk they can offer gestures of goodwill if you are a loyal customer. I only got help with the price after 8weeks of fighting them back and forth I was out of warranty by 5months. If you can cope without your car stand your ground and fight it til they start supporting you. If you bought it directly from Audi you can also say they need to support you under the consumer rights act (2015 I think check the date).
Alot of us have also gone to the motor ombudsman and DVSA and you can say there are multiple cases with the same issue. Good luck I hope you get it sorted!

    Hello

I am hoping Which’s Car Editorial team are looking into this now.

I  don’t know if it will lead to anything but if they do take it further and ask for examples can I assume that some of you are happy to consider providing further details (for example Steph1234, Mark2, Audi Death Trap, CSMT, Worried of Yorkshire, SteveHBerkshire, 88RS6 etc?).

If Which start asking Audi UK well informed questions on this issue, the way in which it can unfold and the danger it can represent it  may add some additional pressure to Audi to do something more proactive and safety orientated (like a proper warning with clear guidance when 12v charging stops).

    Worth a push.

As an aside 88-RS6, as far as I’m aware the 7yr warranty on the MHEV alternator component on your RS6  should be covered - would keep pushing (Mark2 and others here have managed to with effort, on their RS6s)

Yes I am more than happy to support

    Hi there,

Another victim of the Audi Mild Hybrid death trap. I have a 2021 Audi RS6 3 months outside manufactuer warranty. The usual process happened: Dash black out, gear dis-engage, engine off, no power steering then coasted into a safe place to park the car up (Luckly). Recovered the car to the nearest Audi dealership and they have tested the car and confirmed the alternator is packed up.

From reading here/ other forums I told them about the Audi 7 year drivetrain warranty, but they came back saying the RS6 is not covered under that and only the "diesel" cars are covered not petrol. Very strange. My local Audi dealer is fighting my corner with Audi UK currently.

If anyone with an RS6 outside its manufacture  warranty in the UK and successfully had a failed alternator replaced under the "Extended 7 Year drivetrain warranty" please share more info.

I don’t know if this is helpful to you but as to know the part number of your alternator. I was told by Audi the affected alternator part number which are covered under the 7yr warranty is..4N0 903 028. Don’t let them fob you off like Bristol did telling me they couldn’t give me that information. I politely told them under the freedom of information act they certainly could and they then gave it to you.

    DVSA says

    "Thank you for your email.

Their response appears to be at the end of an email discussion, and it is their prerogative as to whether they wish to continue communicating with Customers.

Irrespective of their Customer Relations stance,  DVSA will continue to communicate with their technical section (as they will with us).

    Thank you"

Do you have a case number or a way in which other Audi owners can add information to your case with the DVSA? I’m just wondering if it would add more weight to your case rather than us all having individual cases? Audi closed my case too as it was a manufacturing issue which Bristol not audi uk deal with! It’s unbelievable really.

That’s frustrating, but thanks for replying.

I wonder if an FOI request will make them step up properly and send out a UK wide TSB?

there seems to be enough of us in the UK across the VW group who are having the same issue. But like you said, where US customers have rallied together, there’s not something like that here…yet!

Hi, I was told by Bristol audi (I have it written in an email) that the Q7 are covered under the seven year extended warranty they don’t tell you about unless you push for it. How old is your car? If you purchased the car directly from Audi less than 6 years ago under the consumer rights act 2015 they need to support you. After 9 weeks without my car they did try to help me but it was still a really poor offer and they don’t careless a key component has gone wrong. Audi uk says it’s nothing to do with them as it’s a manufacturing issue. They will only help you if your dealership help.
I have gone through the motor ombudsman and asked if they can see if my case relates to others (which I’m pretty sure it does) so it can be looked into as a collective.

Hey guys, is there any official documentation or email from Audi to say that the Mild Hybrid system/alternator is covered with a 7 year warranty?

My alternator failed last month I fixed it myself as my car was 2018 I thought it was well out of warranty. The part cost £1600 and now I’ve read so much about this extended warranty I contacted Audi Uk to see if they could reimburse me the money for the alternator.

After a month of back and forth  I have just been told that my car is not covered even though it has the 48v battery and the alternator for that engine seems to fail.

Just wondering if there is anything official out there because I am looking to progress this further to the motor ombudsman.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Sorry replied below

  11. Hello,

I haven’t had anything in writing apart an email to say this is the part number of the affected alternators ‘alternator 4N0 903 028’. However, Bristol Audi still won’t tell me what part number my A3 needs so I’m unable to check. They also won’t acknowledge it had failed before whilst it was in warranty.

I have also complained to the motor ombudsman (but could be waiting months) and am happy for you to quote my name to them to back up there is a problem Audi are failing to take responsibility for. The more people that get in touch will surely help fight our case.

I have now had a letter to say I have to pay £90 a day for the car to stay at Audi if I continue to fight my case and don’t want to pay 2k for the repair! I think my fight may be over but I’ll be paying it with the writing ‘paying in protest’ to try and help my case if I try to claim it back.
    Best of luck.

Last night I posted a couple of replies on Andrew Doyle's LinkedIn profile, responding to comments congratulating him and his team on the release of a new etron model. I last had contact from Audi Executive on 23 April 2024 apologising for the delay in responding appropriately,  due to a big backlog. I was told to expect an update within 2 days......7 May, I have still heard nothing. I have suggested Audi attend to their existing customers who are unwittingly driving dangerous, unreliable vehicles, before focusing their efforts on expanding their range. Less lucrative for sure, but essential and absolutely the responsible thing to do.

My car has been repaired under the 7 year extended warranty but since it's return has numerous intermittent faults, all very unnerving. In all my years of driving I have never worried about driving, sadly my A6 has ruined that.

The dealership performed a software update due to a P button fault. The technician advised that although the light was intermittent if I had continued driving the auto gearbox would soon have jammed as it was 'confused' about which gear was actually selected. My car is now jumping on occasion into M1 and back again, only response has been more unacceptable head scratching.

The full gauge will at times return to full while I am driving and the range will increase without a visit to the fuel station, if only!

I believe my car to be dangerous and unreliable, certainly not what I would havd chosen to invest my money in.

I plan to start politely messaging them through social media platforms and I will also apply to 5he consumer rights programme RIp Off Britain, in the hope that if we can gain their support, Audi may be more inclined to take this seriously.

I am now into the fifth month and my patience is wearing thin.

So sorry to hear you’re still having so much trouble. I am more than happy to support any complaints with you. I am astonished at their lack of support and disingenuousness. I bet there are so many people in the same boat as we are!

I’ve had some contact from Audi uk now following my letter to Andrew Doyle. It’s not overly satisfactory as they seem just just be positioning themselves to blame the dealer and the factory.  Keen to reiterate that technical info should come from the dealership as they(Audi uk) aren’t technically trained.  I obviously said the dealership don’t have the details I need.  They then said they would have to contact the factory but that that information might not be revealed to me…..they wouldn’t acknowledge there had been any other failures, any reference to issues in the USA or any issues to other models. They did ask me what my expectations were !!!! They said they would be back to me by 13th may. I feel a letter to Germany coming next.  My car is fixed now and back on the road although I now have a brake warning light but I need new pads so it’s nothing too scary other than the price !

What a frustrating reply! They don’t want to take ownership by the sounds of it. I would like to write to the executives at Audi too, to complain not only for the poor customer service and the battle we are all having but also to back up your concerns that they’re not taking the safety element seriously that a key component to a car are failing so quickly in young, low mileage cars. I wonder how many of us it would take to actually make them listen and respond appropriately!?

My Audi is out of the initial warranty but despite having extended warranty I was assured the repairs were done entirely under the extended 7 year part specific warranty for the alternator…..including the loan car

I rang Bath Audi and you won’t believe it, Simon left last week. They did say someone from his team will call me back.  Bristol Audi have emailed me to say ‘Q7is the only car that is covered on this 7yr extension. Audi Uk said last week there is still nothing they can do as Bristol are refusing to support me. I have now rang Audi uk back today to say Bristol have given me false information as I know it is not just the Q7 models. Funnily enough they haven’t called back when they said they would. I would like to write to the executives at Audi to complain not only for the poor customer service but also to back up your concerns that they’re not taking the safety element seriously that a key component to a car are failing so quickly in young, low mileage cars.

    Hi Steph,

you should get confirmation from Audi UK about the warranty extn if not I could get your dealer to contact mine . Audi uk paid for my vehicle recovery , alternator and loan car my battery was ok once it was put on charge.

My case relations manager who is handling my case has now gone on holiday and they’ve told me no one else can help me til he’s back! I’ll keep pushing to find out about this warrant, thank you.  Who was your dealer? Thank you so much for your help!

@Steph1234 my dealership initially refused to cover my vehicle under the extended warranty too - out of warranty at 68,000 miles . If you haven't already, you need to raise a case with Audi UK and pass the number to your dealership and ask them to make an application for support. Mentioning the Consumer Rights Act 2015 was also a game changer. I am having ongoing issues with my vehicle as a result of the failure, but can confirm with pressure applied the initial repair cost was covered in full. It took a month, but I was eventually provided with a hire car which I used for a month while I awaited the repair of my vehicle. Wishing you the best of luck for a rightful resolution.

Thank you for your help. Audi UK said they can’t help me as Audi Bristol won’t support me as I’m out of warranty. Hope you get your issues sorted.

The dealer told me that the faulty part is covered by a 7 year warranty which is also what others here have been told. I’ve written to the MD of Audi Uk to get clarification on what this really means, their position on whether the issue has been fixed, how subsequent failures may be dealt with, broader car warranty extension at their cost and whether newer vehicles have the same issue. I’ve not had a reply yet. I’ve said I won’t collect my car until I do - I’m in an Audi mobex loan car via enterprise so it’s costing Audi every day I have it.

my own rs6 is out of the 3 years warranty but I have an extended warranty I took out, but I’m told this repair is being done under this special extended warranty for the 48v system alternator so I’d push back hard and say other owners are not being charged as this is a known issue and regardless of the age or mileage is being honoured as an Audi issue.

my dealer has been superb and the car was fixed in just over a week from failure - but I’m not having it back till I hear from Audi Uk…..assume you are Uk based ??

I don’t blame you, I hope you get an answer soon it’s frustrating they don’t seem to be taking responsibility for this issue. I can’t get Bristol Audi to budge as they are adamant there is no known fault and the 7yr warranty on 48v system alternators are only for Q7 so I have to pay the full amount as I own an A3. Audi UK have said there is nothing they can do. I hope you have more luck with them than I have.

  18. 1 hour ago, Mark2 said:

Does the A3 have the mild hybrid 48v/12v system? If it does then it should be covered by the 7 year extension. My RS6 was repaired by Mon Motors who own Bristol Audi but at Audi Bath.

Yes it does have a mild hybrid 48v system. Is there any way I can prove it is covered by the 7 year extension. Would you mind telling me how long ago Audi Bath repaired yours? Bristol are still saying no today, not sure whether I’m fighting a losing battle. Thank you for your help really appreciate it.

Thank you for this. I’ve been told that by Bristol, Audi A3s aren’t covered and it’s only Q7s that have an extended 7year warranty. I don’t know if this is the case? They are refusing to help me as I hadn’t had my latest services at their branch and I’m out of warranty by 5 months. They’re also saying I may need to pay for a new battery as well as a 2k alternator. I’m glad yours was able to be repaired.
