1. I have 18 inch wheels on my Allroad- salesman who collected me fm Liverpool airport to collect the car had an all black A6 on 20 inch rims- felt every bump on the poor roads of liverpool in that car Honest John of the DT also recommends avoiding the 20 inchers unless your spouse is a Phsiotherapist!
2. this is why I persuaded myself to go for the torque convertor zf gearbox in Audi- there is lots of info on the troubles with VAG DSG geraboxes
3. now done 20,000 miles and am looking at changing tyres what do members recommend? I have found some Michelin winter all weather tyres at 245 50 18 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191574875046?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT which look like they would do the job- any views?
4. Should also mention that the MG came with a ski hatch as standard - i had to pay a small fortune for same in Allroad! Also the Allroad has no rear opening window I reckon MG Rover would be making something like the extremely good Skoda Superb estates The AllRoad is a fine and imposing car- which tows better than the MG
5. Thought I would let the Members of the Audi Forum know of our itinerary this summer April Manx Classic http://www.manxmotorracing.com/index.php/ June Cholmondeley Pageant of power In 2x cars Butch my 68 Camaro bit also Herman my 80 B6 28 July Chateau Impney The Audi will be doing towing duties at these evenets
6. Oh Dear Honest John in the Daily Telegraph has lots of posts on similar experiences with the horrid VW DSG gearbox look the answers up here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/62519/audi-q5-stalling-and-jumping-forward
7. Well quite a lot to report - November 2015 First of all the mission Collect hopefully fixed up Hal- The Black Prince load on trailer and then take the ferry from Iom to Inverness swap various bits and pieces over/ hinges locks steering wheel, stainless bolts/wheels and tyres wipers indiactor stalks etc Fit Jerbil's doors and Bestop hood and then load up Jerbil Mahindra and deliver to Lancaster for collection before catching ferry back. simple??? Well first problem is that I fell off the trailer trying to sort out tyre pressures of trailer- managed to crack my ribs and sprain my wrist- Ouch. Then next problem- Snow! Amazing how slow everything is when it is so cold My Audi Allroad Biturbo has 4wd but even with snowsocks there was no way I could get out with the snowdrifts! I crashed through in CJ my CJ 7 V8 up to the bottom of the radiator - no way the Audi would pull the dead weight of the trailer up the v steep bray before the snowplough/gritter Problem is that the snowplough/gritter was not due until mid morning which meant missing ferry 306 miles average 50 mph = 6 hours = leaving at 6.00 am before gritter so left after gritter had been and spent the night in Hotel in Lancaster herewith Jerbil and Hal changeover
8. This car was sold to a friend afetr 115,000 miles without a murmur- the only issue was the crankcase ventilator breather I have always had it serviced plus- by that I mean that I have insisted upon more ATF changes than called for because a it has had a DMS Automotive remap and b Occasionally we use it for towing some pictures here. I would defo have bought another one of these with ultra low miles to last me another 10 years (the money thus saved can then be spent on my varied classics!)- sadly couldn't find one in time and went for the AllRoad BiTuRBO BECAUSE 1 I got a cracking deal 2 It has a proper Torque converter- I don't want the troublesome VW DSG thing that finds its way in lower powered one 3 It has 4WD and much more room https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2920/14433604132_60d6223227_c.jpg] MG IMAG0463 by TopCat1958, on Flickr[/IMG] https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2903/14434934545_f33cc5e45c_c.jpg] MG REARIMAG0461 by TopCat1958, on Flickr[/IMG] and mg fRONT IMAG0467 by TopCat1958, on Flickr[/IMG] Another thing the ZTT had that the Audi doesn't is auto rear window wipe.So if you start the ZTT and turn on fron wipers- as soon as you reverse the back wiper begins Also the Audi is very difficult to switch between Centrigrade and Farhenheit- have managed to switch all settings buried in the controller- but cannot switch it back easily (certainly not whilst driving!) I am enjoying my first Audi car though....................
9. Collected March 2015 - for a bus it certainly moves- with 320 bhp! I went with the very standard 18 rims so I can replace the tyres when the time comes and get some winter tyres also improves the ride the salesman collected me in an S line 2.0 TDI 4 pot A6 all in black with 20 inch wheels which thumped over every bump from Liverpool airport to garage Thought I would update your readers on my ZTT replacement's equivalent figures I have now returned from the Alps in Audi A6 AllRoad Biturbo- which is the ZTT replacement. Average of 36.5 mpg ave speed 69 mph last 800 miles- but journey time reduced to 11 1/2 hours as we had a good break on the Euro Tunnel The year before doing exactly the same trip I recorded the following: "MG ZT-T covered itself with glory after 1600 round trip excluding the 350 IOM trip to come MG managed return 800 miles in under 13 hours at ave 72 mph and 42 mpg on Friday. Really comfortable quiet and relaxing Huge improvemnet over our Pathfinder-in terms of fuel consumption and cossetting low wind noise travel- luckily no need for 4WD at Meribel........" The Audi is far faster (with x2 HP) and quieter and much more room in boot and back seats But has less stowage places for stuff in front, is clearly thirstier and the sports seats I ordered give me a sore bottom after 3 hours at the wheel. Also drama with trailer today rushing for ferry with burst trailer tyre- I found how few tools the Audi has in the boot for emergencies- (luckily man with an X5 lent me the wheel brace that fitted my trailer) just goes to show what we all know = the 75 and ZTT was well ahead at the time. Towing the racecar gave me 27 mpg average speed 48 mph last 178 miles to IoM BRING BACK THE 75/ ZT
10. bought my new AllRoad last March - and am very happy with it after 15,000 miles in past 13 months. Been off to the Alps and the Highlands of Scotland on lots of occasions. I can see 41 mpg on longer trips ave speed 69 mph Expecting to keep it for a long while - but in some ways it isn't as good as my much loved MG CDTi ZTT- which I owned from new until last year. I hope my Audi confounds all those who tell me that Audis are unreliable after 65,000 miles! I am certianly looking after it.
