  1. it varies I find with dealers. because I'm buying non franchised I tend to find some get slightly twitchy when you start bringing out a laptop :) . if I start asking for VIN numbers before Ive even been to view it, I'm not sure they will play ball. I suppose I could ask for the last franchised dealer to service the car then ask them. or maybe I can do it via the reg number by asking Audi.
  2. cheers for the info. id kind of scatched any updated cars off my list to be honest anyway. the only way ive found at the moment of telling if its been updated is to ask for the VIN number and check Audi's site. is there a way I can check using VCDS? eg a version number which when above a certain version means updated? it just I don't want to start looking at cars which are usually 60+miles away only to find out they've been updated or a dealer gets moody about giving me the VIN number. the A5 I nearly bought last year had had the update and I think that's why it was for sale. interestingly they ended up sending it to auction I believe as it disappeared from said dealer without being sold. even though they dropped the price from 13k to 12.5k (which is when I put a deposit on it and haggled down to 12k then discovered the update so cancelled) to 12k and finally 11.5k. over a period of about 4 months.
  3. interested to find out if anyone has had problems with there DPF on the 2.0 TDI engine. its after I spoke to a mechanic who services lots of older cars with DPF's. he said he hasn't had any problems with VAG group or Mercedes, but has had issues with French group and Vauxhall. if you have had probs can you tell me if you have had the VAG dieselgate update or not, what year the car is, BHP, and the type of typical journey. thanks all for your continued patience with a potential Audi owner.
  4. if I use a 2.0 TDI for short journeys what sort of options are out there to negate DPF problems? some thoughts are DPF kind remap or removable DPF, replace for MOT.
  5. I'm looking to buy a used 2012-2014 A5 2.0 TDI, the TDIe seems to have the best MPG but rubbish spec. I'm very wary of looking at manufacturers mpg as this seems to equate to complete fantasy. what sort of mpg are you guys getting urban shuffle shuffle type commuting and motorway?
  6. update: ordered a brand new Toledo 1.0 3 cylinder 110PS. excellence. £12k.
  7. on a side note I posted about my worries on several other Audi forums. but this is one of the only ones that I got a reply on. are Audi owners so busy working they don't have time for forums? ;)
  8. now looking at a Volvo S60 D4 2014. seems they haven't got dpf probs on short journeys. but the egr needs to have been fixed and the manufacturers mpg figures are BS.

  10. thanks guys. the problem was I was maxing myself to buy it and wouldn't have had anything left to spend on EGR/DPF remapping. plus I recon the GOV will start making it part of the MOT to have a working DPF. as it wouldn't take much to detect a knocked out dpf with the current testing machines. strangely I'm now looking at a VOVO S60 D4. spoken to a few owners and it seems these are ok as long as they have had the latest EGR fix. nearly £2K cheaper done 43k miles 2014. amazing economy and £0 road tax. I like the Toledo, we have an 03 plate that weve owned since 2008, but I don't know its just not that great a drive on long journeys and the petrol is but the looks of it slow, 9.9 to 62mph. anyway thanks for all your support. really gutted about the car.
  11. just to update. went and got me deposit back today. now going to go and cry in a darkened room. been wanting one of these for years since seeing them appear on the roads. oh well going to go and look at a SEAT Toledo TSI. doesn't look as good but will at least run right.
  12. going to have a look at a SEAT Toledo 1.2 petrol I think. £10k and nearly new. the A5 was awesome and ive been wanting one for over a year, but I just cant bring myself to buy a car that will probably need mapping and the dpf knocking out. knowing my luck the GOV would then bring in a law requiring the dpf is checked for function.
  13. think I might just contact the dealer and get my deposit back. these cars sound like a money pit. now I know why weve kept out old mechanical 1.9tdi's so long. think the car manufacturers are going to have to come up with something other than a an unusable car if driven on short journeys. this whole experience has gone from one of excitement to pit of the stomach realisation that they don't work properly any more. god knows what I'm going to buy now. thanks Steve for the info and help. I just don't think I can spend £12k on a car that's has been ruined by an update.
  14. I thought the 175bhp 2.0 engines just had maps and the 1.6 had the other stuff added.
