rzwood started following 2014 S5 B8.5 - Orange EPC light followed by stall
-
Hi, My S5 displayed an orange EPC light on the dash driving home from work. I was going to look it up when home, but then the car lost power and completely stopped. After a few fruitless attempts to start, it eventually started and I continued only for the same thing to happen within another mile. After several repeat incidents, I was able to get home. I have the Ross-Tech VCDS software so I hooked it up and these(below) were the faults listed: Is anyone able to diagnose the issue ? More relevant is whether it's fixable at the road side or do I need to have it towed to a garage ? Do I need an Audi dealer/specialist ? I'm not sure if the fault was triggered by the heat as it's been hot today in the UK(34C) and I could start the car after leaving it a few minutes. I don't think I should try to drive again for fear of the same fault. Any advice appreciated!! Hi, i’m new to owning a Audi. I have a 2013 A3 sport saloon. The system uses mmi. The 3g version with sd cards. I was wondering if it’s possible or worth getting the later system. For the apple car play, remote map updates and if it includes the surround sound setting. Any advice is welcome. Thanks for reading

Just to clarify the sill damage is on the opposite side to the door hinge issue if your trying to relate the two that is 🙂 -

and no the door isn’t twisted at all, there’s a slight chip in the corner of it which looks like they’ve opened it onto a high rise curb or something but the door doesn’t have damage on it. It had a door hinge MOT advisory on it on its last MOT by the looks of it but it wasn’t a fail, it still functions, opens and closes but the odd occasion it doesn’t shut and I just do it again. The sill is annoying me more so… -

Thanks for getting back to me, one positive tonight is i’ve gone round the whole car with a touch up brush and it seems to have worked a wonder, colour match is perfect so i’ll polish it tomorrow and clean the day after and inspect. Probably needed primer in some areas but i’ll see what happens! I’ve attached a link via we transfer of me opening and closing the door and showing inside rhe hinge, I also pan round to the other side where the dent in the sill is which tonight i’ve been quoted £300 to fix but I might have a go myself and go to the bodyshop if that fails. Hope sharing this link is Ok https://we.tl/t-JgPccn44YC -

Hi Guys I took the car back to the mechanic who replaced the drivers side lower rearward arm and now all the noise is gone on the drivers side. Basically, that's both lower arms and drop link replaced on Drivers side. Looks like I need to do the same on the passenger side as I can now hear a creaking noise lol It only occurs at low speed during braking, as opposed to the drivers side which was during accelerating at low speed. I assume I need to replace the front lower rearward control arm too on the passenger side but has anyone ever experienced creaking noise during braking where the car pitches forward at low speed? Which arm would receive the most force during low speed braking? Just worried if I ask the mechanic to replace the arm and it doesn't fix it. Could it be the upper arms? Cheers

Darn, at least it was worth a shot. Could be an issue with the megatronics unit.

You're most welcome 🙂 please keep us posted on how you get on with the retrofit.

Hi Steve. The links were a massive help mate!! Your a star!! Many thanks. Rob.

Hi Steve, I had the gearbox oil changed last week, unfortunately that hasn’t helped
-
Yeah, I raised it with the sales manager who showed me a 150 point pre sale check etc, the only thing I can think of is I'm pretty sure it was almost ok from cold and worse when up to temp, maybe this is why it got missed.

Great guide. Well done on the job. If I may add; when I did mine I needed to remove the fan motor as there wasn’t the room to get the core out otherwise. Just in case anyone has the same experience as me.

Please keep us posted on how you get on

Glad you got sorted. Thanks for updating us.

When was the gearbox oil last changed? Old oil can sometimes cause issues with selecting gears.

Thank you, all in progress

A trivial issue but its starting to niggle. Q2, 1.5 petrol. I thought it might be battery related as car is over 5 years old now, the start/stop kept turning off too, so I changed the battery and it is still happening, the digital clock on the MMI radio screen goes off at the same time as a single 'beep' occurs. No warning lights and I can find no info on this phenomenom. I usually have my phone plugged in with android auto showing google maps, which has its own clock, so it isn't much of an issue for me. I know its trivial but I need to know why its happening. Any ideas appreciated Thanks.

Hello all, I’m new to the forum. I have a Audi a4 b8 3.0 tdi avant Recently I’ve encountered issues when selecting drive from reverse. The car cuts out, not all the time but particularly when I shift it quickly. The car also struggles to reverse up steep hills and cuts out. Yesterday I tried to pull away from a stationary position at slow speeds and it cut out. I’m hoping to find a gearbox specialist that can carry out the repair work. I’ve included the diagnostic report. Any recommendations and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Aidan

MOT expires 10.02.2026 Been regularly serviced. Central locking pump recently replaced and drivers electric window fixed. Before that steering pump replaced a while back. New Bosch battery cured the electrical issues. Service record is available since I bought the car in 2012.

If you use a vin decoder it should help tell you what spec you have. Or a sticker in the boot wheel well with various codes.
