Alloy Wheel Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Oh well following on from my earlier alloy wheel upgrade submission, my search for the 19" x 9j Audi wheels I really liked (8to-071-499-1zl) has finally come to its completion. Despite me paying over £400 to my local Audi dealer for 1 single wheel just for me to try prior to ordering the other 3, after 6 weeks it still hadn't turned up. Audi couldn't give me a reason for the delay or a delivery date - this is also despite them confirming that the wheels were in stock in Germany.

Anyway after 6 weeks and the absence of any positive delivery news, I reluctantly requested a full refund and that I have now received. Moving on, but still chasing the same wheel(s) (Audi part number 8to-071-499-1zl) I came across a set of 5 for sale on e-bay. I contacted the seller and explained I had an S7 and that I was aware that the wheels were catalogued as fitting an S5, I went on to explain that I found it hard to believe that Audi would make a different size brake caliper for an S5 vs an S7 and for that reason I was prepared to take the gamble and if I could buy 1 wheel from him for me to try prior to spending a lot more on his full set. The seller understood my predicament and like me thought they would probably be the same size calipers on both models, but understanding that neither Audi, he or I could be 100% certain, agreed to sell me the fifth wheel only.

The wheel arrived and I offered it up to the front hub and oh dear, my fear was realised as it wasn't going to clear the caliper. I tried once, twice, and a third time, but no it wasn't going to happen. Just out of interest Audi at the point of me ordering the single wheel, were also of the view that it would probable fit, although it was only listed as fitting an S5.

In summary then instead of me being able to share pictures with you of the car with its new wheels on, I'm back to the drawing board albeit a few hundred quid light, but that was my gamble and it hasn't paid off!! That said I have gained 1 x genuine brand new Audi alloy (still in its box)which has never been fitted to a car (not even mine!!). It has never had a tyre fitted to it and is clearly new - its size again is 19" x 9J ET33 and part number 8to-071-499-1zl.

If anyone is interested in the wheel please let me know, meanwhile I will keep looking and maybe look for a 20" or 21" x 9J, 9.5J or 10J.

Thanks for reading

Chris

Thanks Chris, and sorry to hear of your issues with this. Probably from the mind of an old cynic. - why would you want to spend 4 x £400 per wheel +tyre costs to fit to an 11 year old car?
Still….

What price do you want to list the wheel for Chris - as opposed to ‘offers’?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for your message.

I do understand your comment and that you clearly think I'm nutz, but I think the shape of the A7/S7 is timeless and a set of nice alloys does suit them.  I've looked and looked for aftermarket alloys, but haven't seen any I like enough to buy.

I could source a set of the 21" rotor wheels and while they are ok, they aren't my favourite.

I will keep looking

Regards

Chris
