Audi A3 Rad fan not cutting in!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I purchased my first ever audi yesterday in the form of a 1997 Audi A3 1.8 SE. Took it on a test drive and all seemed fine and nothing untoward, no frothing at the coolant and no loss of liquid from the RAD but when i took it on a jaunt to london from home (about 200 miles) it started to smoke white smoke and upon inspection it appeared that the rad fan was not spinning so i checked the engine temp guage and it was at 60 (minimum) - any ideas why this may be, and if it is a simple/difficult, cheap/expensive issue to fix?

many thanks for replies and, sorry to be on the ask for advise so soon after joining!

Kieren

H Kieren, first thing to check is that the fan blades can spin freely and aren't jammed or seized.

I would also check the thermostat is operating correctly.
