Audi 80 90 Coupe GT B2 Type 81 85 stainless exhaust.Sold.

Featured Replies

Welcome to my listing for one Audi 80 90 Coupe GT B2 Type 81 85 stainless steel full exhaust system as shown in the pictures.

£169 collection FOC or £28 delivery but please read the full description for delivery options and ask questions if in doubt.

There are lots of pictures and description so bare with me - my intention is to be as helpful as possible. The exhaust was carefully removed by myself from my 1988 Audi Coupe GT 2.2fi 5 cylinder - the red one in a couple of the pictures showing how it looks when installed plus the video and underside pictures showing the before and after removal. If you want to know how this exhaust sounds, follow the link below to a YouTube video of my car when it was owned by OG Cars who had the exhaust fitted. The sound comes about 4 minutes and 30 seconds into the YouTube clip. The system was custom/hand constructed by Infinity Exhausts Ltd in Bristol and fitted by them. It looks a bit grubby in the video and fitted pictures but has cleaned up nicely and looks great with no obvious deterioration once removed.

The technical stuff: This stainless steel exhaust comprises the tube joined under the gearbox selector and runs to the rear axle where there is a clamp connection to the stainless steel rear box with twin tail pipe. The video clip traces the exhaust from its joint with the front pipe to the tail box and shows all the mounts and connection along the way. It replaces the OEM three box system and does make the most of that lovely 5 cylinder sound. It hangs off the same hanger points using your existing rubber mounts. See the pictures where I have tried to show how to make the connection with the front pipe. The OEM spring loaded triangular joint is no longer used so the flare needs to be cut from your existing front pipe. The OEM spring loaded joint is designed to accommodate some flex as the engine moves under load. Personally I'd opt for some kind of flexible connection - I will be using a braided flexi connector to replace the OEM design. I am changing back to an OEM exhaust system because I am after originality for my car.

As for what cars this exhaust system will fit, you will need to check this out yourself. I suggest that it will fit any Audi Coupe GT Type 81/85 from about 1981 to 1988 with a 5 Cylinder petrol engine having owned and worked on 1983 and 1988 versions. When I was looking for my OEM replacement three box system it seemed that the same exhaust parts also fit the 4 Cylinder versions as well but I am less confident about this. I can be certain that it won't fit the Quattro versions as the exhaust takes a very different route past the prop shaft and rear differential subframe. It is also likely to fit saloon versions of the B2 Type 81/85 Audi 80 and 90 as the floorpan of the saloon is likely the same as the Coupe but again, you'll need to confirm this yourself before buying. The tube sizes are comparable - OEM are 51mm OD and this SS system is also 51mm OD. The connection "bell end" for want of a better term is 52.3mm ID so will fit over the OEM 51mm front pipe.

Delivery and collection options. Collection FOC from Menston LS296BA. Delivery gets a bit complex because the long tube is too long for any courier that I have tried. Most only accept 120cm and the tube is 185cm measured from open end to open end. I will deliver the system myself for the quoted carriage cost of £28 up to 100mile route one way, 200 mile round trip. If it must be a courier then the main tube will be cut in two where indicated in the picture and I will supply a SS clamp sleeve FOC to reconnect the two pieces. This way the tube (in two pieces) can be packed together with the silencer in one box under 120cm and under 15kg. I have restricted the locations posted to for £28 but if your delivery address is excluded please do get in touch for a quote. Hope this makes sense but please do ask if you have any questions or suggestions.

If I have missed anything, please do ask. Apologies for the loooong explanation.
