General tech_How to manage a DPF_Audi 2.0 Ultra

Featured Replies

Hi,

There is loads of info on the DPF problems with Audi 2.0 diesel Ultra engine around the forums.      Could we collate them to one Technical thread.🤔

Essentially the question is:  If you want to buy an Audi with the 2.0 diesel Ultra engine:

  • Can you protect yourself, or are you MAD?😐
  • Are there day to day, cost effective ways you can reasonably 'manage' life with a DPF Ultra to avoid major disaster? 😊

Absolutely NOT a mechanic🤐 - just putting down notes that I've seen:

  1. Your Driving style - avoid short, stop start city journey if you can. Once a week do 20-30mins continuously at say 2500-3000 revs 'cleaning drive' to get exhaust temp up to burn off soot;
  2. Branded fuel, Q would using the higher grade e.g. Shell V power etc. have any benefit?
  3. if you notice your car starting a self regen during a journey ( idle revs rise to a. 1000 ) then take car for the 20-30mins at 2500-3000 revs 'cleaning drive'.
  4. if you notice a self-regen starting when you park ( fan running, lots of heat, smell of burning...get back in car, don't just leave it parked ( as unlikely to achieve a full regeneration) and do the 20-30mins at 2500-3000 revs 'cleaning drive'.
  5. Fuel additives ( Q. ones that just 'help maintain', and  ones that 'clean'; Every tank?
  6. Ad blue - does the brand make any difference?
  7. Ad blue injector - cleaning the nozzel;
  8. Get an OBD reader to monitor DPF info. - Q what specifics to look out for?  What related sensors prone to failure, and that it's wise to try replacing - before you go into more expensive fault finding
  9. Shorten intervals between oil changes ( 6 - 7 - 8 k? ), and use correct oil spec;
  10. Do you factor in getting the DPF professionally cleaned, and if so on the car / off the car?

Basically - if you are careful and proactive - can you consider buying a 2.0 ultra....... or is it just a certain time bomb waiting to go off ( probably on a friday, in winter, at rush hour, with unsympathetic passengers )!😧

Maybe people could add in their experiences, and what was done on their cars that fixed DPF problems?😀

Thanks!
