Stop start issue

Featured Replies

Hi all, my name is Rob, new to this forum as of today 👍🏻

I have an Audi Q3 S Line Plus 2016 and have an issue with the stop start system. When stopping the car it will randomly cut out and will start again after about 4 or 5 minute. After this it could be weeks brote it happens again.

Does anybody know what the solution is or the cause of it. Just to know I have had a new earth strap and new sensors which attach to the battery, however this was after the issue started.

Does anyone have a solution / answer please, it’s driving me mad !

Many thanks, Rob

Hi Cliff, had a battery check and all is good. Was done at Halfords and they didn’t know any other solutions.

I’ll keep looking. 👍🏻

I would not trust any work done by the clowns at Halfords which is why I suggested a professional test, but if you choose to believe them the next step is to take the car to a garage, either Audi main dealer or specialist independent, and have it diagnosed on a code reader.

Hello Rob,

Apologies for highjacking this thread, but how long have you owned the car, has the battery been replaced during your ownership, and do you have any service history evidence that it has been renewed in the car’s lifetime?

If it turns out that the battery is the original, then I would simply renew it anyway.

Re. non working stop/start. Clap your hands, since this is the most engineeringly averse system devised during the history of motoring.

As Cliff points out, a new battery will need to be coded to the car.

Regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth, thanks for your response. The battery is an AGM and is around 2 years old. I’m 99% sure it was coded to the car. I’m thinking could it be the starter motor as that has never been changed, I’ve no real idea what the life span could be but it is 10years old. Any thoughts ?

Also, thanks for your input, much appreciated 👍🏻

It's not the starter motor Rob. That much I am sure of so don't waste any money buying new parts until you have a confident diagnosis.

If the battery is in good shape, and I am not convinced it is, you need an electronic diagnosis.

Think that is probably the answer. I’ll try and find someone who can do the diagnostic electrical check. Got a few contacts so will try and find out 👍🏻
