A3 Diesel engine sounding rough on start up

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice. I've owned my Audi for a couple of months now and it's my first diesel, I'd not used the car for a couple of days and when I went to start it it sounded rough for the first 30-50 seconds then was fine, is this normal?? It's not done it since and this was a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Jamie...welcome to the Forum

Could possibly be Glow Plugs around this time of year and if one is slightly below par then that can lead to lumpiness for a short period.

Should be quite easy to measure the resistance of each plug to see if there is a variation in them.

Let us know how you get on with it.

Cheers  Trevor

Thanks Trevor, I'll keep an eye on it as it's still under warranty, if it does it again I'll take it back to have it checked out. So far it hasn't done it again, just thought it was because the car had stood idle for a couple of days might have had something to do with it. Owning a diesel is all new to me so it's getting used to all the ' quirks ' the engine makes. Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

Mine was sounding similar, asked the garage to have a look at it when they did the last belt change...

they coudnt replicate post belt change and put the noise down to the old tensioners / pullies (I had them replaced during the belt chance...)

just incase...
