Hello Martin, As with most electrical issue, it is always recommended to get the battery efficiency checked on professional equipment, before moving on to more complex possibilities. You battery at 12 year old is highly likely to be passed its best. It is what it is. The cameras aren't cheap and there's quite a bit of labour to feed through wiring and configure it. To be honest, some retrofits aren't cost effective, like folding mirrors for £1 or more if you want auto dim. It depends what you want. If it was essential, for example tight parking space at home, you'd be as well buy a different car.

I don’t know enough about it, but when you scan car with VCDS it will check each electronic module which all report back to the car’s main ECU. If there’s an error, it may require to be fixed then adapted back to the module. A bit like replacing the battery, then coding it to the car, or replacing the fuel filter, then priming it electronically. See if you know someone with VCDS. Regards Torx screws, a torx screwdriver is no use, you need a Torx driver, usually on a 1/4” ratchet to get proper purchase. In my experience they rarely break, unlike the 8mm or 10mm hex fasteners. Sorry, my mistake they are not M8/M10.
