  1. Hi guys update. So replaced Glow plugs to no avail, then checked all grounds and also wiring to the starter. We found that the connector and a few wires were corroded so got them repaired. The issue improved so knew we were on the right track, double checked wiring and all was ok. Decided to remove the actual starter and the gear was worn! Replaced the starter today, finally fixing the issue!! I'm surprised the gear was worn to be honest, I didn't think that was an issue with it being a modern car. It's a pre engaged unit so shouldn't be wearing? I don't know. Thanks for your help anyways! Appreciate it 🙂
  2. New Members - please read before posting ! Be civil Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech. Avoid confrontational responses to post content that may be different to your own personal beliefs. Everyone has their own opinion on different matters and this provides for diversity, so please avoid an argument. Have a little patience We are a club made up of members who have to work days or nights so can’t always reply straight away, someone will get back to you as soon as they can, so please be bear with us. Thread titles Be accurate with your topic by giving a brief sentence of the problem, hint or tip you would like to get across to other members. These are not concrete terms with precise definitions — avoid even the appearance of any of these things. If you’re unsure, ask yourself whether you'd go on TV and publicly say it on camera. This is a public forum, and search engines index these discussions. Keep the language, links, and images safe for family and friends. Follow Up Please find the time to follow up your post with a conclusion (such as; that worked, tried that but didn't work, etc) so contributing members can see whether their advice and suggestions worked in this instance. You may receive an email asking you to add a conclusion to your post, please find the time to return to your post and marked it as solved.
  3. Be wary of advertisement photos. They are often copied from ads for similar but non identical cars, probably without the advertiser's realisation that features may differ. Extreme example are TV ads for cars in the UK that usually show top spec LHD European models, with just the tiniest subtitle pointing that out that fact.
  4. That's given me food for thought, Gareth. Many thanks. Perhaps I won't give up yet! Will give it a go and report back in due course.

I am not aware of any members, VW trained or otherwise, who work for other members. You could ask in the appropriate forum but don't be surprised if there is no response. We have no published lists of parts suppliers, though various members have their own personal reccommendations if you ask specific questions about the part you seek. Contact to individual members can be done using the forum message system by clicking on the envelope symbol to the top right of each page, though I caution against abusing the system for questions that are better addressed to the forum.
  6. That testing station staff are clearly a bunch of cowboys, and should be reported to the DOT for issueing a certificate for a defective vehicle. I suggest you take the car to another garage without delay and get the repairs done properly before getting it tested. Note that air in the brake hydraulic system is regarded as dangerous because the brakes will work unevenly, and in the worst case can cause the car to spin. Make no mistake Leah, your car is dangerous in its present condition!
  7. Any garage that passes an MOT with the brake pedal going to the floor ..... Well you make your mind up ! i think that says it all.
  8. Ok, disconnected the battery, remove glove box, disconnected airbag, but everything back, clear the fault, and so far so good, all good. dead battery probably doesn't help. Car under warranty so waiting for new battery to turn up.
  9. Wheel balance perhaps ??

Best quality is subjective, but Meyle should be in there for water pump, SKF, even Febi. Thermsotat, I tend to buy genuine, chances are it’s made by SKF or Febi anyway. Search against OE part numbers.
  11. I’ve now received confirmation that my vehicle rejection has been accepted, and I’m currently awaiting further details on the next steps. As we purchased the car outright, it’ll be interesting to see how this progresses and what the final resolution looks like. For context, the car is a Q5 Edition 1 TDI in Daytona Grey, with panoramic roof, air suspension, and a 5-year Audi warranty. We secured it with a very strong discount at the time of purchase. Depending on how things are valued during the process, it may make more sense to sell it privately. It’s also worth noting the car has had: Stage 1 paint correction Ceramic coating Front and rear dash cams professionally installed Private registration plate I’ll update the thread once I know more.

Letting you do the searching is saving me a lot of keyboard tapping.
  13. Was a new tyre pressure monitor installed with the new tyres?
  14. Thanks for letting us know. Be glad the water did not leak into the cabin, it would have permanently stained the head lining.
  15. finally solved his issue, but never found the actual drain holes in the plenum chamber ,as it turned out the sloshing noise was water collecting in the sunroof chamber the whole area above the windscreen was filling with water and draining very slowly cleaned the drain channel with some thin welding wire ,no more sloshing
