  1. Hi Peter - Try Caffyns Audi at Eastbourne. Had the same issue and they fixed it FOC IAW the BSG 7yr guarantee. Fix was a new Belt Driven Starter Generator.BSG Good luck!
  2. Hi Cillene99 Sorry to hear you are having all this difficulty. My car is also a 2019 A6 C8 50TDI Quat and it was covered as it fell within the applicable VIN range. Back in this thread I put a copy of the Recall note. Our cars must be pretty much the same age.
  3. Hi Ross I agree with Cliff. My feeling is that many dealer staff are not knowledgeable on how the recall works. I think that some don’t know the difference between an active recall in which customers are contacted directly to get their cars booked-in such as for a Safety Recall and the this type of recall which is only effective when a car presents with a fault that is subject to recall. In other cases, I think some dealer staff just make their initial decision based on eligibility for a Warranty Claim, and don’t look further than that, leaving the customer severely out of pocket. As Cliff says, present the documentary evidence showing the eligibility of your car. The data is on the internet. Good luck!

  5. Hi, if you look back in the threads on this there is reference to ‘BSG Water Ingress’ as the root cause due to a defect. I first saw it on a UK Government vehicle recall website. The website identified affected vehicles, and confirmed rectification would be FOC. I’ll look back and see when I posted. My 2020 Audi A6 Avant 50 Tdi Quattro was fixed FOC. However, this was only after I showed a copy of the website. Customer service was excellent once they were on it. Note: A Recall does not necessarily mean an active recall of affected vehicles. For this BSG Fault, the Recall is only acted on if a customer actually present a car with the defect.
  6. Hi Clare Your model & year - Audi A6 C8 Avant 50Tdi Quattro 2020 model MFR’D OCT 19 Mileage at failure - I think about 78,000 at the time. (I was not given paperwork) Dealer name & outcome (goodwill %, warranty, or full cover) - Excellent Customer Service at Caffyns Audi Eastbourne - BSG Changed 100% Free of Charge. I referred the dealer to the following website: https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk/recall-type/vehicle/make It is important to appreciate that some ‘recalls’ only apply if a fault is reported, rather than the proactive contacting of owners. screen shot below. have a check for you vehicle.
  7. When my BSG was replaced FOC by the dealer, I was not given any paperwork either. It is probably a policy protocol.
  8. Hi Gary Thanks for your post. My example was just to illustrate the process that worked for me. You’ll need to check for your own car. Best of luck Alex
  9. Hi Gary The most authoritative source of information is the Gov website. The link is at the bottom of this post. Here are the pertinent details that led to the free of charge replacement of the BSG on my 2020 A6 C8 Avant 50 Tdi Quattro. ————— I sent the details to the Audi dealer. After checking they advised that the job would be covered FOC. The important thing to remember - and I think some dealers don’t know this - is that some ‘recall’ items do not result in the owner being contacted. They only apply if a car presents with a relevant ‘recall’ fault ———— Just further to this I may be in luck as it looks as though the following Audi Recall may affect my car. Message to dealer included the following: Would you mind checking with Audi as it looks as though there is a potential water ingress issue with the Starternator fitted to my age of car. I might be in luck🤞 Best wishes Alex See below: From the Gov.uk Recall website: Recall reference R/2020/265 Recall Type Car Recall Date 2020-10-02 Reason for concern MOISTURE MAY ENTER THE BELT DRIVEN STARTER-ALTERNATOR Reason for recall It is possible that moisture may enter the belt-driven starter-alternator. 10. Hi DieSel Glad things are looking up. Sometime before my BSG failed, I was getting battery and Drive Train messages. This was traced to the spring loaded pulley wheel that holds the belt taught on the BSG wheel. In essence, the car would not auto start all the time in start/stop mode so it rolled to a halt. 😳 Cost me a few hundred quid at Audi. Subsequently and probably unrelated, the BSG properly failed. All fixed now free of charge.😊
  11. Hi Gary My car is working perfectly now, and have decided to always turn off the Stop/Start function every time I drive to try and take the wear and tear off the system. The Stop/Start function must put one heck of a strain on the BGS. Happy motoring Sir!
  12. Hi Gary Great to hear about this good outcome. However, it seems the responses from dealers are not in sync. IMHO, it should not be like pulling teeth to get to the correct result and customers should certainly not have to educate some dealers about the 7 year warranty.
  13. I can’t remember the exact conversation and don’t want to be inaccurate. However, I got the distinct impression that i would have been a car offered had there been one available. The lack of a loan car availability seemed reasonable in the circumstances as i had to just dump the car with the Audi dealership without any kind of appointment. When i picked up the car, it had been beautifully cleaned (including the application of tyre black). In addition, they invited me to pick some gifts free of charge. I was given an Audi umbrella, Quattro Mug, Key Ring and an Audi metal thermos flask. I did not expect this, but was very pleased and impressed by what Audi had done to correct the BSG failure and to retain my trust. I just wish everyone was similarly treated.
  14. Hi Danygeorge it will be interesting to find out. I hope your issue has been fixed now. If not, and the BSG needs changing, I think they should refund what you have paid. It won’t be your fault if they have run up a blind alley. Anyhow - hope it is fixed and you don’t need to spend any further time on this.
  15. I think the 48V battery issue is due to the battery self disconnecting to protect itself from a deep-discharge. This could very likely happen when there on nil or little charge from the BSG. I reckon there is a good chance the root-cause is still a BSG issue. You’ll soon find out if it happens again.
  16. Hi Optimus My car was delivered in late Nov 2019, but seems to be classed as an MY2020 model - I think? It has the Tour Pack which I use nearly all the time. Makes for a very relaxing driving experience as you will know. I’m surprised if they have made the FBSW mutually exclusive with the Tour Pack. Can’t seen any reason for this.
  17. Hi Bob - Great news. As ever, having the information to hand is key. Knowledge is power.
  18. Hi DieSel-Q I think it is a great shame that some customers have not had the free of charge repair. Dealers should proactively check current issues reported by customers in case they are covered. Whilst it certainly pays to do some research on the Gov Website shown above and present the evidence to the dealer’s service department, it should not be something that is necessary.
  19. Example for the Audi A6 2019 (MY2020). Part list as it did not fit on the screen grab.
  20. I think a fundamental problem might be that some dealers will check to see if there is a Recall on a car. By this I mean a Recall that is proactively pushed to owners even if their vehicle is fine. I could be wrong, but I think that some dealers may not realise that there are a number of active Recall items that only become applicable if a given unit fails. In my case the affected part was the MHEV Belt Starter Generator.(BSG) Whilst it should not be necessary, it is worth keeping an eye on what recalls are in place on your car, so that if a relevant fault occurs you can take the evidence to Audi. An example is in my post above. This information is on the gov.uk website at https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk/recall-type/vehicle/make
  21. Thanks Brian - I agree. These parts don’t seem very robust.
  22. Hi Audi A6 C8 50TDI Quat MY2020 bought from new owner here. Pretty sure my MHEV 48V system will be more or less identical to the A8. I had the similar electrical issue in Jan 25 described here, which was originally diagnosed as needing a new Starter Generator. The diagnosis was then amended to needing a new Starter Generator belt tensioner. This fixed the problem. Last week I had Electrical Failure with the yellow and red battery symbol along with the associated messages and sequential shut down of the A/C and MMI. When I tried to start the car, it would hardly turn over. Started it with my NOCO jumpstart which got it going. As the battery was clearly drained - probably as the result of getting no charge - I put the car on charge using the under bonnet red connector and nearby negative lug in accordance with the handbook. The following morning, I drove the car to Audi with as many electrical services switched off. Managed to cover the 15 miles ok but not sure how long it would have lasted for. Having done some research on-line, I found that a failed starter generator replacement is now a free of charge fix. This was great news, as the car is 5 1/2 years old. Picking the car up later this morning. Total time with Audi was 5 days including a weekend. It was a very good outcome, but I am concerned that the new part will be the same as the old part - but hoping it has been modified. Details for the A6 FOC repair are below. Not sure if it applies to the A8, but certainly worth checking. Recall reference R/2020/265 Recall Type Car Recall Date 2020-10-02 Reason for concern MOISTURE MAY ENTER THE BELT DRIVEN STARTER-ALTERNATOR Reason for recall It is possible that moisture may enter the belt-driven starter-alternator. 23. Had my dealer retrofit the stowable Audi Tow Bar. Works fine and has also added a ‘Tow Bar’ function to the MMI Reversing Camera that shows an orange line and dot where the tow bar is. i gather the software also modifies the Stability Control function to optimise handling with a caravan under tow. It also adds a caption showing if the tow bar is not safely locked. When towing a different set of green indicator lights shows on the instrument panel when indicating. Wish I had ordered this at build as the retrofit was costly. The parts were around £1200 plus a hefty chunk of labour.
