Had this happen on my car at around 3+ years. Mine was the Rear Near Side. Dealer service dept reckoned that Near Side is more vulnerable due to roadside puddles etc.

Thanks - However, last week had the dreaded StarterNator failure. I gave the Audi Dealer a copy of the Audi document that shows this fault is now covered FOC for cars up to 7 years old. Looking elsewhere on the forum, it appears that some Audi dealers appear not to be aware of this and some people have had to pay the associated very large bill. My car has a 9G8 reference in the build codes which meant it was covered. Text of the document as follows: Recall reference R/2020/265 Recall Type Car Recall Date 2020-10-02 Reason for concern MOISTURE MAY ENTER THE BELT DRIVEN STARTER-ALTERNATOR Reason for recall It is possible that moisture may enter the belt-driven starter-alternator. Remedy The starter-alternator must be replaced on the affected vehicles. How to check if the vehicle is recalled Contact the local AUDI dealership or manufacturer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall. My new car - delivered in Nov 19 had this maddening and rather scary issue. It is called ‘step-off delay’. My Audi dealer found that there was a gearbox software update available. The update was carried out and I finally had the car I thought I had bought. The issue was corrected and the problem has not recurred. For an A6 C8 50TDI the TPI that’s required is 2053287/11 but more importantly, this is an Engine ECU update and not a gearbox update as such, the software update is 4K0907401K Interestingly, many correspondents on the thread said that their dealers were saying there was no available update. However, there certainly is - and it works!

Or temporary GPS Jamming. these are carried out from time to time and notified to flight crew by NOTAM.

Mine has FBSW and does have the Tour Pack.

Can’t remember the code but I had a failed NOx Sensor.

Had a similar problem given DRIVE TRAIN FAULT or something like that. Turned out to be a faulty tensioner pulley that keeps the belt around the starter at or correctly tensioned.

I het this too. Severity varies. When the car was under the manufacturer’s warranty, Audi did do a fix but the rattle eventually came back. Not too bad and probably temperature dependent.

Had my ATF Fluid and filter/pan at a ZF Specialist at 80000miles. I know people say ‘sealed for life’, by the manufacturer ZF recommend every 8 years or 80000 to 100000 miles. decided to stay on top of this as I am retired, bought the car from new and want to keep it long term. They had to undo part of the sub-frame to access the gearbox oil pan.

Hi All Had the same issue 5 days ago. Symptoms as listed in the discussion. Yellow ELEC FAULT and a cascade of associated messages along with load-shedding of multiple items such as A/C, MMI,Start/Stop button greyed out etc. Fortunately, I was on my way home. Tried to start the car and but it hardly turned over. Used my NOCO jump starter and that got in running instantly. Given that the battery was flat, I put it on charge and drove it directly to Audi with as many power using items switched off. Managed to cover the 15 miles or so. Having done research overnight, I read up on the 7 year recall and advised Audi of this. They said they would call me after diagnostics. The call confirmed a failed BSG. I also emailed a copy of the BSG Recall Doc that confirmed the no payment would be due. Audi subsequently confirmed that the repair would be FOC. Collecting the car on Monday. Very relieved not to have to pay the bill! My car has the build code 9G8. I think earlier comments suggesting that the MMI or a light should give a warning that the battery is no longer charging. I agree with Wooks. Have mine in ‘Comfort’ most of the time and have no pull away issues. Does the gearbox ‘learn your style’ and optimise accordingly? If so, does it do this separately from ‘scratch’ for each of the modes’ My car is swift off the mark and handles the approach to, and pull away from, junctions and Roundabouts with ease. Fully agree that there appears to be room for further improvement in pick up when accelerating from between 30-50mph upwards. Still a slight delay in my opinion but better than before. Given the name of the update I wonder if it was focused on pulling away from standstill or near standstill.

Fantastic and incredibly helpful detail Jenna. Very pleased that together we are managing to get some insight into this issue that must affect so many cars. However I am amazed that the update does not seem to be Immediately obvious and visible to dealers and appears to require a level of tenacity and persistence to obtain it. This can’t be the best way to do things. As I mentioned above it seems such a shame that all available Updates and TPIs are not clearly visible to Customers as this would enable us to proactively go and benefit from available improvements without having to ‘hope’ that all available updates will be applied at the next visit. Audi should consider ‘pushing’ this information to the Audi App or better still updating over the air.

Hi I am no expert but I am not convinced you are getting the correct update only the ‘recall’ one. As far as I know the MMI is a ‘recall’ update but the gearbox update is not. I got the impression that the Software update affecting ‘drive-off’ behaviour had to be specifically located by the Lead Technician. This followed a letter to the dealer setting out my concerns. The update that matters is specifically for the ‘step off’ delay and certainly works. Having now driven several hundred miles (including Sussex to Aberdeen and back) the way the car pulls away is much much better and in my view is acceptable. The roundabout case is no longer an issue. However I think ‘kick down’ response from say 50mph could possibly be better. In the latter case the car takes off instantly if a lower gear is pre-selected in Manual. This leads me to conclude that the engine itself is nicely responsive. Perhaps a future update could help with this. It would be very helpful if Audi promulgated all available updates for each car so owners are appraised as to what is available.

Odd that the update did not ‘take’ first time. Wonder if it was properly applied or has somehow reverted. Also it is important that the correct update is applied. My car feels substantially better. You could try asking to find out exactly what symptoms the update applied is designed to fix.

I think this should certainly be part of the PDI.

Hi. The Service Dept said I could wait but that it would be at least 2 hours and possibly longer so I left the car with them. Dropped off at 1030 and collected it about 1700. My wife brought me back and dropped me off. As you say courtesy cars were mot available. it is always difficult to know if something is a perfect fix but the car does not hesitate when pulling away anymore and feels much nicer to drive. Seems like the full fix to me. I think you will enjoy the dramatic change. As the car is eager, immediate and has smooth power delivery. Looking forward to hearing your own experience.

Feels like a different car now. Really good to drive and such a huge improvement. Can’t understand why it wasn’t correct to start with.
