  1. If the fuse box is at either end of your dashboard or under the glove box, a likely cause of the water is leaves in the bulkhead stopping it from draining.

If you open the bonnet you should be able to remove the plastic covers and clean the drainage area out. You should also have grommets underneath which you can remove and poke from the bottom.

The other common issue is if you have a a sunroof and the drain is blocked.

Fingers crossed it's just a blown fuse 👍

Thanks, Shytot and Steve. As a test, I filled up shell v-power yesterday and did some local and motorway drive. It could be placebo, but the car definitely felt responsive (especially gears 2 to 4) and the mileage shown in the short-term memory is over 7mpg more than last value. (28 vs 35).

    That's a significant difference.

I'm getting between 7 and 8 miles per litre.

I can't see the premium petrol giving me enough additional range to justify the 29p per litre price difference.

Looks like you just need to monitor and go with what suits you 👍

  3. I've not noticed anything obvious yet on my Q5.

My journies have been fairly consistent and I've filled up twice with E10.

I typically get a range of 500 miles when full and on this one it's sitting at 40% / 199 miles

I've not noticed any performance issues so far.

How does it affect your performance?

  4. I don't think TT engines were as susceptible to the major problem of dodgy piston seals. Have read here and maybe do some googling on the TT engine type

    http://casestudies.atlanticmotorcar.com/audi-engine-oil-consumption-correction/

Engine codes CAEB, CDNC and CNDC were tv he main offenders.

But as mentioned by you and on other threads here - the petrol engines are *designed* to consume oil.

I think it is a trade off for cost of build v tolerance in the moving parts.

Have you got a link to this device you purchased? I just use an old 2.5 inch hard disc drive mounted in an USB caddie and that works fine and cost me nothing apart from the cost of the caddie about £10.99 🙂

I suspect that it's this one

There are a few other cheaper options

    They all look pretty reasonable.

  6. I watched the Guy Martin programme and couldn't help feeling that it was a blatant attempt at trying to "teach" us that electric can be good especially with the latest COP 26 Pilgrimage coming up.

I found it interesting that the cost of re-charging was not much cheaper than petrol / diesel already and likely to be significantly more expensive once there are enough victims to screw.

Most electric vehicles in the UK are company cars bought to avoid tax.

As you say it makes some people feel good to virtue signal, others feel that they can pose around and some genuinely fee that hey are saving the planet.

I believe that there is a place for electric cars but spending billions to put in an infrastructure that will never be convenient isn't really the best use of money. Some of the biggest issues for me are:

Battery life - even if electric cars get cheaper, if they are only good for 7 years then they are no good

Charging - with no fossil fuels and an already straining grid - how do they think they can generate enough on demand electricity to charge everyone's car overnight (when there is less wind and no sun).

Costs - infrastructure aside, we already pay a premium in our energy bills to subsidise renewables, electricity is only going to get more expensive year on year - just look at the guaranteed price for electricity supply from the new Hinkley Point Nuclear power station. Plus tax revenue will drop off from oil so it has to go somewhere else.

There are lots of other issues but ultimately the whole energy supply situation and the scaremongering climate change scammers are driving us down the road to ruin - or to being totally dependent on the woke and intolerant liberal left.

    Rant over 😀

  7. Hi Ann - it's VW508

Besides that, the level of oil consumption is far too high.

You should get the car back to the dealer and ask them to sort it out.

They should at least check for any obvious leaks. I have read somewhere that they also have in the past drained the oil and then put in the 5 or 5.5 litres, record the mileage and then measure the loss 1000 miles later to see if the loss is below specification.

That said, on a 2021 car they have no excuse.

  8. Which engine are you talking about - petrol 2.0 tfsi?

There is a mention in my manual that you can expect up to 0.5l per 1000km and higher for the first 5000km (close to your 3900 miles)

In my manual it is one of the last sections and it is highlighted grey as a note.

    Service and care

    topping up fluids

    engine oil

This has become a hot issue because previous engines were leaking oil through the piston seals leading to total engine replacement.

As for buying the right oil - if you don't want to drive then get it on the Internet

Opie Oils.co.uk are pretty good, otherwise Google VW508.00 and follow any link that takes your fancy 👍

That's not good. How many model years are affected I wonder?

Sorry Steve - I didn't reply to this.

I believe it is only Q5s but not necessarily consecutive builds.

I think that Q5s are only built in Mexico which reduces the impact.

No I want to know when they are due to be done.  Not when they have been done

As my post said - the app tells you when the next 2 are due and it can be worked out if it is 10k/1 Yr or 20k/2yr

You said that they explained this when you bought the car.

If it's too confusing then why not ring them up and ask them?
