Stalling during high consumption
Very good point. I’m definitely leaning to an electrical issue and not a clutch issue based on my findings so far

Stalling during high consumption
Hi guys/girls, I have a theory so please sit tight lol. Audi A6 Avant C7 - 2014 2.0 TDI ultra S-tronic 87,600 miles full service history full gearbox service history (3 gearbox services, 2 with Audi and 1 with an Audi specialist) prior to my ownership. so I have an issue where in the mornings the car tends to stall either on first pull off or within the first few minutes, once warm it’s fine. I have the AC windscreen clear on, drivers heated seat on and rear demister on, the headlights are usually on. at first I thought gearbox issues or clutch, but I’ve been messing around and it doesn’t do it if the electrical demand isn’t high. the alternator is a bit noisey when cold, and I planned to replace it but didn’t want to right now as it’s expensive and can live with noise for a little bit if I need to spend money elsewhere like gearbox. however today I decided to use Carista live data. todays test showed 75% battery charge just after first start up, voltage at ect was 14.6v in nice it turned on my windscreen clear button, rear demister and heated seat (as well as radio and drls on) it dropped to 14.1v. As I pulled away it dropped to 13.8v and stuttered a little. I came to a stop at the end of the road and went to pull away, it stalled and I saw 13.4v for a split second. is it possible a faulty alternator is the cause of my issues? I initially assumed clutches or gearbox fault. But after watching the voltage and logically thinking, perhaps the power usage is too much strain on a failing alternator? And it can’t regulate the draw. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any suggestions on other tests I can do to try and narrow down/ confirm the fault before spending money. my other consideration was doing a calibration / reset on the gearbox incase it wasn’t done after the last gearbox service. much appreciated, Dave

Yer this was my thinking tbh. im suffering with man flu at the moment but this was my next plan, if I don’t hear it I’ll probably feel it direct through the bearing. although the alternators are a fortune 🤦♂️

I mean, car supermarkets are known for to be worse than your small second hand car guy 😂 I did some vchecks on a few cars on some car supermarkets that we were looking at, whilst officially not reordered as write offs, found all of them had had some serious damage

That’s ridiculous.

Carista - Fuel prime on tdi
Just for some clarity and n this, Carista does indeed do fuel promo by, aswell as gearbox configuration for after changing the oil and pretty much anything else you could need

Lanoguard
Do bear in mind there is a lot of trim on Audi too remove so the labour cost maybe more than your anticipating compared to other cars

All I meant by my previous comment was, the demeanour that comes across would put me off asking if I was a newbie, which I’m sure none of us want for the forum.

I think the worse thing is mine came with a receipt from a third party garage which is either a fake receipt or they genuinely took the car to be serviced and it got charged for it and it wasn’t done. filter wise, mine was really thick, you could feel it as you moved the fins, it clearly hadn’t been done for a long time, would be interested to hear how you get on, hopefully it’s not any worse than mine 🤞

Sorry I must be mistaken I thought it was an enthusiasts forum where we help one another and share our disgust at jobs not done properly. but seems everyone is an expert and doesn’t need any help.

Hi Gareth, thanks for your interest. The receipt says Minor service, oil and filter. it is indeed a diesel and I have no issue with the colour of the oil that’s to be expected on a diesel. The consistency though is that of a VAG group diesel not serviced for at least a year in my opinion based on my experience, the oil filter also backs that up in my opinion. this post was really just a point to say, if you do get a new used car, get it serviced straight away by a trusted garage, or if your capable do it yourself so you know it’s done right. Thanks, Dave

it was a minor service, the consistency of the oil, it definitely wasn’t done 3,000 miles ago, especially the state of the oil filter.
