  1. To me as it was due a gearbox service and there’s a slight leak, it was worth trying the cheaper options, so I don’t spend triple the amount to potentially find out it was just low on oil. Now I know that low oil wasn’t an issue I can confidently know that there’s an actual issue and spend the diag fees at either a vag or gearbox specialist to find the actual problem
  2. I didn’t mention the issue as the car was due a gearbox service, as well as that I know there was a slight leak, so as I have had the car about 9 months, I put two and two together and decided that the best action was to get the service done and see if low oil was the reason for the issue. To which I now know wasn’t the issue. I understand that now i have to pay a diagnostic fee but it was worth trying the cheaper options first.
  3. I’ve never said I’m not prepared to pay the bill. I’d pay the bill to find the issue. It’s more about being smart with money and not throwing it down the drain. there’s an almighty difference between spending £250 on a gearbox service and spending £190 an hour for however long until they can diagnose the issue. with that being said, the thread has gone off course. The reason I take it to one place or why I’ve taken it to Audi for one thing but not the other isn’t really the point of this thread. End of day, if you don’t have any ideas about possible issues or ways to repair it. There’s really no need to comment.
  4. For multiple reasons 1- it’s closer than the specialist to both my house and work 2- I was a reasonable price as I’m not messing around with the procedure of changing the gearbox fluid myself. 3- they do a health check on the vehicle and tell me any obvious faults so I don’t need to find time or sort a lift or pit out to properly check 4- as my car has pretty much full Audi service history and I might have misplaced the history, I got them to print out the history again for me
  5. As the car is a 64 plate (2014/15) it’s not covered under any sort of warranty. And the Audi near me is charging £190 an hour. I don’t refuse to pay for labour. I refuse to pay £190 an hour for labour when the specialist would do just as good of a job for about £100-£140 an hour (haven’t spoken to them yet to be certain of their hourly charge)
  6. I didn’t mention the issue as unless I need to I refuse to pay the labour that Audi charges and generally try and do the work myself. Although I have a Audi specialist near me that I’m planning on booking in to get diagnosed The clunking between 2nd and 1st only happens when the gearbox is completely up to temp and as I only live about 5 miles away, it wasn’t warm enough for it to happen. The stalling out also didn’t happen as that will only happen when the cars been sat overnight.
  7. So had the gearbox oil change done at Audi on Monday, it’s now Thursday and nothing has changed. It still lurches between 2nd and 1st and I have to leave it idling for about 10 mins in the morning or the engine will occasionally stall. I’m guessing these two are related the engine runs smooth. And once it moves it doesn’t try an stall again
  8. Yeah I’m hoping it’s not that 🤞 but it’s booked in at Audi on Monday for a gearbox oil change so will find out from then
  9. So I have a 2014/15 a6 c7.5 with the 7speed automatic gearbox. The issue I’m having is the car lurches forward and has a slight clunk when it shifts from 2nd to 1st. shifting both up and down in every other gear, including 1st to 2nd is completely faultless. Cant even feel the gear change most of the time. now I have a slight feeling that it slightly low on oil as there’s a slight leak. So have already booked in for a gearbox oil change. that being said, I’d like to know if I’m missing anything or there’s any common issues thanks in advance
  10. Found the issue eventually. So either I was an idiot and didn’t tighten up the lower arms enough or it loosened itself whilst driving. Not really sure, nevertheless that was the source of the knocking. I appreciate everyone’s help and suggestions. thank you.
  11. I’ll have a gander tomorrow. And let you know what I find.
  12. I’ve not thought about doing that. I’ll have a check tomorrow and let you know.
  13. Sorry just read my previous replies and can see the confusion. I can hear the noise when: — the car is stationary and turning from lock to lock - the car is moving of from stationary. it knocks as soon as it starts to move - when going around some corners. Not all corners though. it doesn’t happen when going over bumps or from what I can tell, when braking
  14. It is audible when both moving when turning from lock to lock and stationary when moving off and corners i believe from the o/s however the noise is rather close to the centre. So could be either i can’t remember what drive shaft make I put in the car
  15. It’s possible but I would expect there to be some sort of excess movement in them when turning. I’ve had it on a pit and inspected all the joints and nothing stands out as having excess play. Just really hoping that it’s not steering rack
  16. Having owned a 177bhp with the multitronic and fairly recently aquiring a 190 ultra facelift with the s tronic I’ve noticed a few differences I owned the 177bhp a6 for 18 months and drove 30k+ miles in it and other than standard service items like brakes and tyres, I had no real issues with the car. The engine had plenty of power and although it wasn’t breaking any speed records and the gearbox took a while to decide it wanted to move but once it started to go, there was more than enough power and didn’t feel underpowered whatsoever. The ultra on the other hand, I’ve owned it for a month and had no end of issues so far, although I’m not suggesting all these are having issues. Since I bought it, it’s had dpf issues and went back to dealership for 2 weeks to get that sorted. As well as that, Ive had a few knocks from suspension and driveshaft started clicking. That being said, now that tue dpf system has been repaired, the engine runs and feels amazing. The gearbox 95% of the time works brilliantly. The other 5% the gearbox get confused when downshifting and a bit juddery when shifting from 2nd to 1st and accelerating it sometimes doesn’t knock what gear to select when starting from standstill. Now I wouldn’t discount this as a result of these. The car drives amazingly and over the past 2 weeks, the 1500 miles I’ve completed in it, have been flawless engine and gearbox wise. now referring to the engines being quite weak, I wouldn’t say they are underpowered. Of course there not breaking any speed records but plenty of power to do anything you wanted to.
  17. I’ve recently had a knocking on front suspension and a clicking from the offside. So I changed the driveshaft and the lower arms. since then I’ve acquired a new knocking when I turn from lock to lock. It also happens when I start moving from a stop and whilst turning round a corner. I know it’s a long shot but has anyone had any similar experiences or is there any common issues that would result in these symtoms? thank you in advance
