Flasher relay location

2002 A4 Avant 2.4 that's presented a string of minor issues over the last few months, none difficult to solve but all together rather annoying. Now the direction indicators are playing up, when I indicate right it flashes left unless I hold the stalk firmly in position. It could be the stalk switch getting old, could be the flasher relay playing up, but where is it? It's not an integral part of the hazard light switch and none of the many images on line of a relay panel identify it, the ticking noise seems to come from behind the instrument cluster. Does anyone know which inaccessible corner the relay has been tucked in to please?

I've just had a conversation with an Audi dealer about the flasher relay. After I'd explained to him what it is he gave me a part number which turns out to be the steering column stalk switch. Is the relay built in to the switch?
