I drive a 1.6 B4 saloon.

Hi guys. Looking for a bit of advice. I’ve been getting a lot of road noise lately when I get to 40mph which gets worse with speed. Initial thought was wheel bearing. So I have jacked it up to check play in the wheel and it seems the wheel bearing is fine. And the play is coming from the steering rack. ( ball joints and track rod ends are fine, as are the Lower control arms) so I tightened the 10mm bolt on the rack to take up some slack and now my engine has lost power. Any suggestions?
