Crunching when turning

Help please? Hi all. My car has been on the drive for 3 months due to lockdown. I have been washing it. I got in it today to move it and when I turned the wheel it has a crunching sound towards the left wheel I thought it was a stone caught in the wheel but it continued when I drove up and down the street. I found online it could be peer steering but mine is electro mechanical so it seems this does not have fluid. Then it could be something with a ball bearing on the steering column?? I fear I will have to take it to the garage. It was fine before but maybe 3 months stood still has caused something to break. Would be good to get your thoughts and if I will be safe driving to the garage. Huge thanks. Linda

Linda. Please tell some more about the noise.

[1] Does it happen when turning the steering wheel while the car is stationary, or only when in motion?

[2] Does it happen when turning to one particular side or another?

[3] Does it get worse when braking?

[4] Can you feel any vibration at the steering wheel when the noise occurs?
