How do I find the heater control valve on my A6?

I have no heat in my A6, although the fan works and the supply pipe is hot. It seems therefore to be a valve control problem. I've removed the glove box, but can only see the vent controls. Do I have to remove the centre console and all the vent controls to reach the matrix and control valve?
