Cats vs decat

Featured Replies

Just wanted a few opinions on the following based upon  members past experience. My cars Catalytic converters have had the precious metals removed without my permission, now im left with a very loud car and guessing it won't be long before an error light shows.

The car has a mrc stage 2+ tcu tune

S4 B8 platform.

1. Do I replace with second hand original cats.

2. Would sports cats be better.

3. Straight pipe with sports cats located further down.

The car has a X pipe and res delete currently but im going to add the resonators back in id prefer a quieter car with no drowning.

Thanks in advance.

Hi I think the sports cats are about the best idea, the original exhausts would be designed to allow optimum pulse flow for the engine if you remove all built in restrictions it can cause problems with back pressure at certain rev ranges which can lead to fuelling issues where the ECU consistently tries to adjust for excessive gas flow, back pressure is a must as it wont allow total cylinder evacuation of exhaust gas which in turn keeps cylinder head temperatures within their designed strategy by cooling the charge.

Thanks for the reply Steve,  I'd love to hear from any other members that have found themselves in a similar position, what solution they opted for and how they currently feel about their decision upon reflection.
